In this thread there have been several justifications of the tariffs based on the idea that we have to do something different because the national debt is so large (though the connection between tariffs and the national debt is tenuous at best). 

However the newly proposed Republican budget legislation increases the debt by 5 trillion dollars over the next 10 years. As usual with Republicans, they are choosing to cut taxes without cutting sufficient enough spending to cover it.

So for years and years chima taxed our exports while flooding us with crapola and it was just accepted. DJT addresses the unfairness and china  cries as well as the usual suspects. Growing up made in china was synonymous with junk . F them and anyone who supports china.

Look.   I am not a giant fan of the tariffs--outside of reciprocal ones.   I also am taking a wait and see approach.   Unlike so many, I am not doing anything with my 401k or my investments.  I think it's dumb to do so.  

Additionally however, if anyone believes China can win a trade war with the US long term, you're insane.  A long term tariff battle against the US will destroy their economy.  Now I know Timmy will come in here and say it will destroy the US as well, but nope.  They need us way more than we need them.

Higher prices on those poorly made products negates the one benefit they had, their cheap price.  If you take away the one advantage they've had over other products then there is no reason to purchase them anymore.  We all have other options to buy, what option does China have?
