Fascinating article.  Hegseth included an Atlantic reporter in the group chat about the Yemen attack.  Would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

This is what happens when you put an unqualified Fox News host in a position of power.

I need a clip with the senior officials saying [Urkel voice] Did I do that? [/Urkel Voice]

I argued for that multiple times. But the worst things revealed by her screwup came as a result of Foia requests. This is 1000x beyond all that.

Hillary wasn't a screwup, she intentionally broke the law.  Adding the reporter was a screwup.  I'm still unsure about this Signal platform; that may have violated the law.

My friend - posting on a non-secure platform like Signal is intentionally breaking the law.

She had an illegal server with classified information that she created on purpose.  You sound like an idiot saying this is much worse.

I argued that what she did was illegal. Barking up the wrong tree there.

Great.  Then Hegseth should get the same treatment Hillary did.

I can read the law. So can you. If you cared one whit about Hillary’s server then surely you know the statutes.

I see a considerable difference between Hillary’s storing data on a server - & IIRC it was <10 emails at Secret level or higher produced redacted by FOIA - & ***war plans***. I think the answer here is Trump & his Maga supporters were never serious about national security.

It's against the law to send classified information on a non-classified platform. Come on Jerry. Everybody knows this

The difference for you is the D or R after their names.

Charges against Goldberg are pretty cut and dry. Hopefully sooner than later.

Magnitude of the situation is greater. The security of the platform is weaker.

He logged off the platform when he saw what was happening. However my guess is Hegseth is still posting away. - Also fir the Demented Joe Biden fans, where’s the president in this chat?

I’m sure you were upset when Truman dropped flyers on Hiroshima warning them before the atomic bomb…. 🤡

I don’t know about that, but he published the texts. He could have reported on it without showing the specifics. He needs to be tried. Obama would have locked his ass up already. He locked up plenty of journalists for way less.

Buddy I was absolutely & totally against what Hillary did. ***That was a hair on a rat’s ass compared to this. To even be using Signal for this kind of thing is massively, criminally irresponsible.

I remember and I get it. My problem with these sorts of stories (both this one and the Hillary email story is twofold):

1. I’m always skeptical that the person in question (Hillary Clinton or Pete Hegseth) is the actual person responsible for the screwup. In both cases I evaluate these people base on their policy performance, not on their technical skills. My hunch is that some low level staffer set this up and screwed it up.

2. Liberals will attack this and conservatives will defend this (in the Hillary story it was the other way around) and I HATE that. This has nothing to do with ideology*.

(* Now the one possibility that it has something to do with ideology is that in general there is a contempt in the Trump administration for the “old rules”. I’ve already heard at least one MSNBC commentator express the sentiment that this was related to that contempt. But I’m skeptical. I think this was more of a fockup.)

Goldberg is not bound by the law on retaining classified material because he was never read in in the first place. The 17 personnel using an unauthorized platform were the ones in violation of their duty & NDA.

We’ll see about that. If an alleged rape that was never reported 30 years ago can all of a sudden become a misdemeanor case then this is easy Pickens for prosecution. Get er done.

Bondi’s not prosecuting anyone & Patel won’t be investigating. In fact my guess is this amateur hour will continue on Signal, Telegram, open WiFi or Starlink, you name it.

If it was that cut and dried, Hillary would have been convicted.

As I said, I'm unfamiliar with Signal and its capabilities.  Also it seems a little odd that nobody on that thread brought this up, if it was so obvious.  I presume this is where you respond with an unbiased comment about the intelligence and/or security consciousness of the people involved.

This tweet from Cynical Publius has me thinking

🤔

“Alright, listen up.

I threw out a theory that the Goldberg chat may have been a set-up.  That theory is getting a lot of visibility.

I still think it could have been.  I also think it could have been a mistake.  Or it could have been a traitor in the chat.

I don't know, and anyone who thinks I cited my "first thoughts" theory for any reason other than to promote discussion is wrong.

I will stand by the following, however:

The chat Goldberg describes specifically and deliberately talked about classified information being shared on "the high side" (i.e., the classified SIPRNET), and every time Goldberg discusses what HE believes to be classified data he caveats it in the article with the word "conceivably."  I will not believe classified info was shared in the open until that fact is proven by someone other than Jeffrey Goldberg.

Remember this: Jeffrey Goldberg talked America into the 2003 invasion of Iraq with false stories about a Saddam/al Qaeda connection and he has steadfastly maintained  that Donald Trump is a "de facto agent" of Vladimir Putin.

My "first thoughts" theory might be wrong.  But the fact that Jeffrey Goldberg cannot be trusted to speak truthfully is not wrong. “

So...wait...the reporter reporting this is the same guy who said Trump was a Russian spy?  Believed in Russia gate?

Okay, now it all makes sense.  Unless we can get corroboration from an actual TRUSTWORTHY source, then I'm calling BS on this.

Of course the liberals are all in on this - they were all in on Russiagate and all sorts of Trump conspiracies for at least a decade now.  Not surprised they're easily led and easily fooled.

Allrighty, then.  Trustworthy source confirmed the story.  WTF, Hegseth?  Embarrassing, especially for a veteran.

Well, we have precedent for this.  He should get the same treatment as HIllary Clinton!  All he has to say is "I thought if I wiped my screen with a cloth that would delete the conversation" and he should be all good.
