My daughter was an honor student, skipped a grade and was invited to go to a top private school here in Georgia, tuition free. I couldn’t let her attend because even with free tuition, I couldn’t afford all the other fees and things that go along with going to a to private school. I was a working single parent and couldn’t see how I could drive her to school each morning and pick her up in a timely manner while going to work. She missed that opportunity.

I don't doubt you are broke. That's why all the fear mongering directed toward those of us who are doing just fine in life.

You should seek help somewhere else other than on random websites.

Date check

“Demand throughout 2024 fluctuated but is higher overall than pre-pandemic levels. 5.9 billion meals were distributed nationally from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024 — a higher figure than the last couple of fiscal years but a drop-off from 2021, when 6.6 billion meals were distributed.”

So it is personal for you. Because this isolated incident didn’t work out for you, you want to deny this opportunity to every American student. Of course, your example is not an example of school choice. You had an option to send your daughter to one school, not a school of your choice.

Seems like she ended up OK.  She missed one opportunity but had another that worked out.  How do you know she would have been better off going to the private school?

I think the video makes it clear that it’s really only helpful for those that can already afford private school. It’s not enough for poor people and I explained that even a full ride free tuition wouldn’t have helped me. The vouchers aren’t covering the full amount of tuition so only a person who can make up the difference will be using these vouchers. As the video states, the lower classes will be helping to pay for the upper classes children’s tuition.

The lower classes take more than they give.  They aren't helping anyone above them.  The middle class on the other hand is, and they will be helped by vouchers.

The lower classes take more than they give? Do you mean in tax breaks or in actual labor? The lower classes aren’t helping anyone above them? You mean the folks who clean our streets streets and buildings, the people who pick and deliver our food, the people who take care of our children and elderly, those that serve and prepare our food, those that make our clothes and manufacture our goods are just takers? Perhaps you just mean in tax breaks? The lower classes are the foundation of our society.

You said the lower classes would be paying the tuition of those above them.  It should be understood that we're talking about taxes.  The other examples you gave would be called employment, for which those people are being paid a fair wage.

Yes. But it's not "lower classes". It's the low class. The idiots who live in poverty and procreate and raise their kids as idiots and who live in poverty.

This government needs to cut these people off and let them die off. Survival of the fittest should be emphasized more.

Stupid uneducated people going away helps this nation like nothing else could. The 57% of violent crimes caused by the 13% of this country's population who are 100% criminals at all times dying off only helps the US.

Screw the lower class and let them eliminate themselves is the way to go.

They are paid too much. And given too much. They stay stupid and refuse to conform to this country's standards. Let them all off themselves.

I wonder, do the billionaires feel the same way about you and those in your income bracket? Do they consider you losers, unintelligent, prone to crime, disposable, and unworthy of consideration?

I don't need to be taken care of by billionaires. I don't need their tax money. I don't need their pity or support in any way. If I saw a billionaire in a store, they would look no different to me than anyone else.

I can live comfortably on my own so much so that I give them no thought and don't care in the least of any of their opinions of me. Unless they are a family member or personal friend of mine that is.

Other than that, none of it applies. So, in the end, why do you care about this?

Also, this thread is about conservative policies making us all poorer. It’s not about what you think about black people or crime or poverty, it’s about conservatives at the helm and steering us into a depression or into an unaffordable economy. How far does our retirement and investments have to tank before you can admit Republicans are driving the economy into the toilet? How low must your savings go before you recognize trust Trump, Elon and those around them aren’t brilliant economists?

My Dad has a degree in economics and explained early on in a brief statement why tariffs won’t work, this was during the Super Bowl, he predicted exactly what has happened; we tax them, they tax us and neither country wins.

The lower class takes more than they give. Yes. They can't even support themselves yet they keep having kids.

That’s horsesh!t. I have to agree with Peenie. If you work a full time job in America as an adult, you should be able to afford a studio apartment and sh!tbox car without any government assistance whatsoever. I don’t care if it’s unskilled or not, they are working.  Businesses are paying the lowest percentage of their income to employees in history.

I’m only socially conservative.  Fiscally I wish our government was set up similar to Japans. They have over 100 million people and less than 5,000 homeless in the entire country. For comparison, we have 30,000 homeless veterans without even counting all the other people. I don’t really think wages are the problem though, it’s the cost of living. We need to ban foreigners and corporations from purchasing real estate, maybe not permanently but for at least the 25 years or so. People spent about 25% of their income on rent/mortage in the 1940s/50s/60s that number is a lot closer to 50% today. That’s not even counting all the additional bills you have to pay that didn’t even exist back then (internet, phone, etc..).

The financial system was designed to fail under it's own weight. Republicans and Democrats are working together towards our demise, at the behest of their Central Bank overlords. HTH.

You are an alias. And I don't think poor people need to be entrepreneurial. Just go work for a living and stop having kids if you can't afford them and stop committing crimes.

Is that so hard to achieve?

People at McDonalds make $20/hr now or more.  They CAN afford a studio apartment and a car.

Well let’s examine this:

1. $20 an hr, before any withholding, is $800 a week. After withholding that come to about $2500 per month.

2. Average rent for a studio apartment in the USA is $1574. Much much higher in certain states like mine.

3. Average car payment in USA is $742. Not including insurance.

That leaves less than $300 for food for the month, insurance, utilities, and everything else. My conclusion is you’re wrong.

Why should they have a car payment?  FFS.

Because we decided it was a good idea to build sprawling suburbs everywhere, you need a car to function in the USA, come on.
