Harvard & Trump Thread: Harvard PREVAILS in its lawsuit against the Trump administration

So when someone fights for money, your logic is they shouldn't have it?

And then I guess when someone doesn't care about money, then we should give it them.

Alrighty then.

Poor harvard.  Cant afford to do their super critical research with tax dollars.

DOGE cut the people auditing Harvard's federal grant money spending?  Tell me more.

Yes. From Google:

“DOGE did cut contracts, including those for audits and evaluations at universities.”

It's research that benefits the public.  If the govt doesn't fund this research, it likely doesn't happen.  Now we're relying on other countries to lead the world in research and innovation.  I guess we can pile into factories.

With what?  You're not gonna say Student loan forgiveness are you?  Because I already schooled you on this multiple times.  You couldn't possibly be dumb enough to say again.

So tell me, what did Biden do?  Back up your BS.

Biden didn’t say Congress denied his college loan forgiveness but he “did it anyway”. ?  Because he did.

By finding a legal way around the ruling. He didn’t break any laws, unlike Trump.

Bookmark this.

1) it was SCOTUS, not Congress.

2) SCOTUS said Biden couldn't use the HEROES Act to cancel student loans.

3) But Biden "did it anyway" using OTHER means, not the HEROES act like SCOTUS forbid him from doing, he used other existing laws that were constitutional.

This is at least the third time I have explained this to you.

So tell me, what did Biden do?

Here are a few things as a small appetizer to getting to all the things Biden did wrong:

Despite failing in student loan forgiveness (thank God), millions still had student loans cancelled.

He put a bunch of marines in a position to die. And they died.

He allowed in over 10 million criminals from around the world.

He withheld critical weapons from Israel.

He continued fostering racial divide in this country.

He demanded that healthy children stay at home from school.

He wasted billions of dollars on a failed green energy give-aways.

He wasted billions on supporting and growing a foreign war rather than work for peace.

He and his admin led a coverup of his cognitive decline.

He said he wouldn't pardon his son but did anyway.

He stopped the federal executions of child molesters and murderers.

He called Trump supporters garbage.

He constantly made a fool of himself on the world stage.

He shut down a railroad union strike just to see a train derail in Ohio a few weeks later while railroad safety was a big part of the reason for the strike in the first place.

And there is a lot more...

If you can do it without consequence it's the same thing as finding a legal way around a ruling. Distinction without a difference.   HTH.

He discharged soldiers for not taking a medical experiment, and tried to use OSHA to do the same to civilian workers.

Oh, that was a good one.

Biden said once he would have physically  beaten up Trump if they had gone to high school together and then proceeded to fall on his face in front of the military, in front of reporters while boarding a plane, and in front of multiple reporters while trying to get off his bike. The videos of this went viral around the world for foreign leaders to laugh at.

He told a black guy that if he didn't vote for him, then he wasn't black,

Not your call.

My opinion is my call.  But if Trump falls backward into the right result, I'm okay with that in this instance.  You guys are acting like the constitution is going straight in the trash because the president wants to sway funding.  That's a gray area at best. What you should be railing against is Trump using his position to single out for punitive action institutions, agencies, states, etc. that he perceives did him wrong.  Get off the constitution thing.  It's not a winner in this instance.

Too bad you guys didn't fight as hard against the covid jab mandates you were supposedly against as hard as you're fighting for Harvard not to have to spend their own money on their own research.

That's a great gig.  Become a well known college.  Get alumni in positions of power that can influence where money is allocated.  Have money allocated to "research" at your university so you don't ever have to dip into your own funds.

If a corporation did that, you guys would be pissed as hell.

Congress passed funding bills allocating money to myriad orgs. They control the purse. Donald is ignoring that constitutional separation and illegally cutting off funding.

I care about any POTUS doing this, not just our current one. It is an overreach, and example eleventy billion of Trump ignoring laws and norms that he finds inconvenient. I do not give a crap about Harvard's endowment or funding. They are an elitist institution that over time has produced any number of degenerate swine that have swindled, lied, distorted, and damaged the US. Their lack of free speech principles is appalling.

Harvard sucks. But that has zero to do with the primary concern: Trump's continuing assault on American law.

Sorry, but this seems like a red herring. Did Congress pass a law giving money specifically to Harvard which Trump is defying, yes or no? :dunno:

Here's another great reason to oppose what's going on: We Are Watching a Scientific Superpower Destroy Itself

Quote

According to the latest annual Nature Index, which tracks research institutions by their contributions to leading science journals, the single remaining U.S. institution among the top 10 is Harvard, in second place, far behind the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The others are:

  • The University of Science and Technology of China

  • Zhejiang University

  • Peking University

  • The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences

  • Tsinghua University

  • Nanjing University

  • Germany’s Max Planck Society

  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University

A decade ago, C.A.S. was the only Chinese institution to figure in the top 10. Now eight of the 10 leaders are in China.

China is eating our focking lunch when it comes to cutting edge scientific research. Trump is bending us over, pulling down our pants, and saying "thank you sir, may I have another?"

We are destroying our own academic and scientific leadership in the world, and China has already far surpassed us. Our response is to cut MORE funding. Do the math.

I don't recall anyone on the right in the GC responding to my posts about the Naval Academy removing works by Maya Angelou or "To Kill a Mockingbird" from its shelves because they were a "DEI books." Including you. This, among myriad other examples, is why it seems as though perhaps free speech is not high on the rightie priority list.

Hmm, that's quite an attack.

Unfortunately, a search of you saying "Angelou" or "Mockingbird" comes up bupkis.  "Angelou" with no author has one reference to it by MDC in a discussion about renaming the Gulf of Mexico.  "Naval" and "Academy" has nothing either.

So basically, you are full of shiot that there was a thread on this, let alone that you posted about it.

A complete fail whataboutism.  :(

Well, I cared enough so I looked.  I looked for keywords, not just in titles.  You said nothing.  The only comment I could find, which I mentioned, was a throwaway comment by MDC in a Gulf of Mexico/America sidetrack.

I wouldn't have bothered, but you seemed to have a vivid memory of discussing it, and of me NOT discussing it.  It seemed odd that you would remember the absence of something so clearly, hence my interest.

I also remembering objecting to the Angelou censorship when it happened, so I expected to find evidence of a discussion AND that I had objected to it.  But I found nothing either way.

I absolutely posted about it, with links. I do not recall who responded directly, but IIRC (granted, a big if) nobody from the right gave a damn. That is why I said you had nothing to say: because no righties did. I don't remember if you responded or not. I have spent some time looking for it, to no avail. I may try again later, but it's probably not worth my time given how pathetic Invision search functions are and that this is the day of the Vikings opener, so I have bigger priorities.

Well, I thought your argument involved your primary concern:

Trump did not assault American law in this case.  In fact, I would argue that the radical judge who disregarded the law is the one assaulting American law.

I would also argue that your true primary concern is that Congress has, for a long time, delegated a lot of its constitutional power to unelected orgs under the administrative branch.  Congress approves a pile of money for some amorphous use, and let's the "experts" decide how to disburse it.  Trump is taking advantage of that structure, in this case to attempt to bully Harvard into changing their behavior.

It's an interesting situation, to be sure, and I have mixed feelings about it.  On the one hand, it's not practical for Congress to understand all of the technical details needed (even if they were smart and not dummies).  On the other hand, how can the courts complain that POTUS doesn't give money to somebody not specifically enumerated?  :dunno:
