And...

California's state and local government debt is over $500 billion, with the state itself holding over $270 billion and local entities over $230 billion.

AND....Newsom wants to continue to sue the Trump admin with tax payer dollars.

It's just ridiculous.

To answer your question: yes I do.

We certainly have many problems here and you’ve stated some of them quite succinctly. Yet despite all those problems we remain the richest state, the 5th largest economy on Earth. I would argue that the good easily outweighs the bad.

The 5th largest economy where people literally shiite and shoot up in the streets, and people can't afford a home here? That's a sign of success to you?

We are not the richest state; we are in the top 5, but not the 'richest.'

I also need to realize that I am talking to a nepobaby who lives in LA, so I understand why you'd think it was the best ever.

What are the several others?

Lol the description of me as a “nepobaby” isn’t accurate, but in any event what I wrote you about our state isn’t based on my own personal experience.

Again, I have no argument with your critiques. But you seem to think they define us. That’s where we differ.

Australia, Israel, the United Kingdom off the top of my head. There are probably more.

Okay, the multicultural experiments there haven’t been going on long enough. I think you know what I’m getting at.

I can name more than a handful of countries that expanded beyond their native population and ultimately collapsed. I can also name countries that were around during those same times that didn’t do the multicultural experiments that still exist today.

I’m sure you can. People are intolerant. Fearful. Some are racist. These are realities we all have to deal with. Human beings can be ugly. That doesn’t mean, however, that we need to change our ideals. I believe that ultimately a multicultural society is preferable to a non multicultural society. At least put it this way: if we are to survive as a species, it had better be.

Of course you're a nepo baby.  That's not even debatable.  You literally wouldn't have the job you have minus a family connection.  You wouldnt even be in the same field.

Australia might be multicultural, but they didn't really start passing laws on it until the late 70s. Prior to the 70s they had laws about "white Australia." I can see how people would think that they are now reversed in that thinking...however, assimilation is key. Adopt their language, phrasing, and ways of life and you're better off.  They are cool if you live there/move there, but try and infringe on the "Aussie" way of life? Nope. They don't like it. I've heard this from a few folks that I know that live there. SO...maaaayyybe not as multicultural as they like to say they are, but that's only my opinion.

Totally.

Nepobaby =

The term suggests that their success is, at least in part, due to their family connections and the advantages they receive from them, rather than solely on their own merit.

It hasn’t even been one lifetime yet, it takes generations before sh!t will really hit the fan.

The Roman Empire lasted about 450 years once they started to try to fit a bunch of cultures in one empire. All of the problems they started to have were almost nonexistent when they were still The Roman Kingdom/Republic.

Yeah, it’s human nature. I don’t get why you think it’s such a bad thing as long as you aren’t physically harming someone else. I think other cultures can coexist together in the same country, but I also think there needs to be a clear main culture/race or things will always 100% of the time get messy.

I like you Jerry, you have good intentions. But I really do think your views on certain groups of people (Muslims in particular, but also some Latin Americans) are way too collectivized, simplistic, and based largely on tropes that have their roots in ignorance, fear and bigotry.

I'll try to get to this later, but first I'd like to say...

... you listed the UK in a thread that is literally about how the PM of the UK finally realizes that flooding their nation with cultures antithetical to western democracy is destroying it.  So I wouldn't call the "W" on that experiment just yet.

Also, Israel is only multi-cultural because Israel and the Jews welcome their Muslim brethren.  How would Jews fare in Gaza?

@TheNewGirlhas discussed Australia.

Otherwise, good list.

@iam90sbaby summarized it well:  multiple cultures are fine as long as the underlying, heretofore successful culture is primary.  Stated another way, the "Great American Melting Pot" is at its base a western European, Judeo-Christian stew.  You can add a pinch of this and a dash of that from other cultures to spice things up and improve the taste a little, but if you dump a whole jar of Muslim culture into the pot, you ruin it.

Mashed potatoes. A little butter and a little pepper do the trick. Too much of either, especially the pepper, ruins it for all the ingredients.

Did we have Tim just name the UK as an example country of "diversity is our strength" in the same thread where the UK Prime Minister JUST announced revamped border control because of the "failed experiment" of the lax/open immigration they were doing?  Wut?

This has literally NEVER worked in history. Ever. So why would it work now

No they won't.  They'll make up an excuse of why they were right and someone else was wrong.  Or, just blame conservatives.
