Now that Americans understand what Trump meant by mass deportation, they don’t like it.

Recommended Posts

Really cheering news this morning (for those of us who have always been opposed to this policy):

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-polls-2071579

Support for mass deportations as a top priority has dropped to 35%.

https://theimmigrationhub.org/article/voters-overwhelming-support-pathway-to-citizenship-over-mass-deportation/

The American public supports a “pathway to citizenship” for undocumented immigrants over mass deportation.

Everyone wants the violent criminals gone, no question about that. But when we’re talking about the hard working vast majority of undocumented immigrants, or detaining somebody’s abuela, the public doesn’t like it. They may have thought they wanted it but now they clearly don’t, and the more Trump and the ICE thugs push it, looks like the more unpopular it’s going to get.

Of course there is bias. But they’re using polls to prove their point, and that’s at least SUPPOSED to be objective.

Unlike @supermike80 I generally believe in polling. It’s not always right but it usually is. When polls showed, a few months back, that most Americans supported mass deportation I accepted that. I figured I was in the minority. On the overall issue of immigration I AM in the minority and always will be- I get that. But it’s nice to see a change on this particular issue, at least IMO.

Polls have lost all real value.  They are almost always biased.....they used to gauge a position, now they are done and published to influence a position.   I see that.  Many people see that.

USA

I think most Americans approve of the increased tightness at the border and that’s the main thing they wanted. But they don’t appear to approve of the mass deportations.

I think you’re being very simplistic here and really ignoring the amount of time, effort and technique most of these polling firms put in, not to mention their integrity. I think you’re overly dismissive.

And I think you're overly trusting.    We are on very different ends of the spectrum with this.   I do not believe in polls.  I especially dont believe in polls published by media that has a known bias.

How can a person who has lived 50 years and has never been polled by any .org believe in these stupid polls? Especially when the results don't match what the country voted for a few months earlier? In the 10's of millions.

Wait you’re saying 35% don’t say it’s their biggest priority and that means Americans don’t support it???

you’re dumb. It’s not most Americans no 1 issue that would be the economy with immigration second among most rationale people

do you ever use logic?? Like ever??  If they polled me in November it was my no 1 issues.  Now it’s under control and the economy is no 1. It’s really that simple

It was very opaque when Trump said “mass deportation” 1000x.  Tough concept to grasp.

Yeah.  Not me.  I will never quote a poll or use a poll to support any position.  They are useless. On BOF SIDEZ.  Polls are dumb and people who buy into them are easily manipulated.

Well this would make sense except for that second poll that stated that a majority of the public prefers a path to citizenship to Mass deportation. Of course you’ll reject that poll, but that leaves you with accepting the polls you like and rejecting the ones you don’t like.

I 100% guarantee that if Fox news did a poll about mass deportation Vs path to citizenship it would show the majority of americans support mass deportations.   You really don't understand how this works do you?

What about the .org's third a fourth polls?

I'm waiting anxiously.

This is from the immigration hub's "about us" page.   But yeah, they aren't biased or anything.   Jesus man.  Tim, you can be really manipulated by the media, we all know this, but seriously?   Are you that bad?

The Immigration Hub has founded and hosted a number of programs over the years in service of  creating an inclusive society where immigrants can thrive, fully contribute to their communities, and be recognized as integral to America’s national identity and heritage.

It bothers me..a lot.   This is a guy who thinks he is intelligent and well informed.  But continually shows his ability to be influenced.   This is exactly the target politicians try to find.  Those that think they are smart, but who are so easily led.  It's not that Tim is this way that bothers me.  It's that there are so many Americans out there like him.   It depresses me that there are so many lemmings out there.

Most of the polls agree, but you guys don't like polls that disagree with you anyway.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in polls/polling numbers even when they disagree with how I feel personally.

I took statistics in college, and meh.

I can see how a majority of Americans would disagree with the deportation tactics that are being used; I disagree with some of the tactics myself.

I can post so many more, but a lot are from late 2024 and the libs will claim they’re too old and out of date. 😆

Those polls are quite old and sentiment has shifted due to Trump tactics.

Trump’s overall approval rating for handling immigration now stands at 45%, down from 51% in March. A higher 53% say they have at least some confidence in him to deal with immigration policy, although that’s also down from 60% in the transition period before he took office.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/30/politics/trump-poll-immigration-deportations

A majority of Americans, 53 percent, disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration, with 46 percent approving, a reversal from February when half of the public voiced approval of his approach.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/04/25/trump-immigration-approval-ratings-drop-poll/

45% approval

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trumps-approval-steady-concerns-over-economy-immigration-rise-reutersipsos-poll-2025-04-29/

The survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that 46% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s handling of immigration

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/many-americans-say-trump-has-gone-too-far-on-immigration-but-remains-his-strongest-issue-ap-norc-poll-finds

Polls are consistent, Americans don't approve.

But they’re not the ones running the poll. They’re reporting the poll,  but it’s easy enough to check their work.

And of course I read Immigration Hub because I very much agree with their philosophy. That doesn’t mean what they report as fact is not accurate.

I don’t understand why they can’t admit that their views on this are unpopular. Happens to me all the time. But some of these guys have trouble acknowledging it.

Ask people about deportations and almost everyone is in favor.

Ask people their thoughts on TRUMP’S handling of deportations and the number goes down.

Who could have guessed that?
