Trump demands Walmart "EAT THE TARIFFS" and threatens the company

After UK and China caved people are believing in the tariffs and trust Trump more. You need to quit watching MSM.

UK deal was insignificant with the small amount of trade we do them and China didn't cave.

Hasbro announced when tariffs on China went to 145% they had major changes planned including price increases. They were pleasantly surprised when China Tariff was lowered to 30%. Major portion of their business is manufactured in China and are changing their plans again. So, I don't understand how Walmart can announce price increases still, crummy company.

BS they both caved.

UK didn't mean much in the sceme of things, so they gave up nothing given the small amount of trade we do with them.

And China is declaring this a victory (doesn't look like they caved)

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/12/china-trade-trump-tariffs-beijing.html

China sees the U.S. trade deal as a huge win for Beijing

Chinese officials, influencers and state-run media on Monday were casting the initial trade agreement and 90-day tariff pause with the U.S. as a victory and a vindication of Beijing’s negotiating strategy.

They are arguing that their defiant public posture worked and was a major reason they were able to strike a deal with U.S. officials in Switzerland with relatively few concessions.

“China’s firm countermeasures and resolute stance have been highly effective,” said a social media account linked to China’s national broadcaster CCTV.

In the eyes of the Chinese public, negotiators from Beijing appear to have convinced President Donald Trump’s administration to roll back most of the 145% tariff rate that Trump imposed, and slash them to 30%.

In exchange, China pledged to roll back most of the countertariffs it announced against the U.S.

On social media, Chinese users are touting the deal. One hashtag, #USChinaSuspending24%TariffsWithin90Days, already has 420 million views on Weibo.

The line refers to a 24% figure cited near the top of the joint statement Washington and Beijing released.

In total, the 90-day pause drops U.S. import duties from 145% to 30% on Chinese goods, and Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods from 125% to 10%.

Walmart sells tons of imported stuff. There are tariffs being place on these items. Do you think they are the only ones that will do this? Their whole deal Is razor thin margins but selling tons of shet.

This is the most bizarre thing people aren’t getting 😂

Leftists now defending Walmart!!!!!

I don’t think they’re really defending them, the opposite really, they know they’re a greedy corporation so it’s dumb to expect them to not pass on price increases to consumers.

Although, it was only two weeks ago that righties were supporting Walmart because they thought Amazon was going to label tariff costs.

The timing on this is WILD!

While Jeff Bezos jabs at President Trump with Amazon's new tariff pricing labels, Walmart has announced a major new initiative to EXPAND its support of products MADE IN AMERICA!

Now I’m not a Walmart shopper, up north I found the rabble in the store unsavory. Down here in FL the choices a much fewer. I might have to take another look

While it’s unsurprising that the least educated can’t grasp this simple concept, the most bizarre thing people aren’t getting is that Donald Trump only cares about himself. He doesn’t care how much things cost, if people are doing well or struggling, nothing. Only cares about himself. The fact that people support that is the most bizarre thing people aren’t getting.

Isn’t that part of the strategy? Encourage companies who have moved manufacturing to cheap labor countries to come back and manufacture in the United States creating jobs, tax revenue and profits?

China is wrong. Two months of 145% tariffs followed by 30% tariffs is not a win for them. We can’t afford to buy as many of their products and they can’t afford to buy as many of ours and both countries ar being unnecessarily punished as a result.

China and the U.S. should agree to NO tariffs on anything. Complete, unfettered free trade between the two countries. Both nations would become immensely richer.

They are moving the manufacturing to other counties with cheap labor to disperse dependency. It’s not the US however it’s places like India, Vietnam.

What? There’s no getting around cheap labor costs. Take these toy companies for instance. They have much of the design and logistics run here in the US. The production is largely done in places where the labor is 1/20th the cost here.

WalMart, Amazon sell these toys and millions of other things made in this manner. They aren’t going to “eat the costs” nor should they of some artificial fee placed on the cost.

Nor are they going to move manufacturing to the US because it’s still cheaper to manufacture it overseas even with the tariffs…

Yep. This is a function of consumerism and capitalism. Tariffs aren’t going to change this or if they did change it, it would be at the expense of the customer.

So we get these nonsensical things from Trump like  “WalMart should eat the costs” or “people should be happy to pay more and get less”.

Possibly, but what I read was Hasbro was considering just not selling in the United States, except probably board games which they manufacture here.

Well looky here:  LEGO bricks and sets are manufactured in six factories worldwide: Denmark, Hungary, Czech Republic, Mexico, China, and Vietnam. The LEGO Group is planning to add a seventh factory in the U.S., which is on track to be completed in 2027.

Lego decided to build a manufacturing facility in the United States to address North American growth demands, improve service, and manage its carbon footprint. The company chose Virginia, specifically Chesterfield County, after a thorough search based on key criteria including proximity to markets, sustainability, and a skilled workforce.

It's all about demand.

Lego started looking for a location in 2021 with original plans to open in 2025. It’s been pushed back. This whole thing has caused a wide ripple effect on planning reliably. There is a lot of this going on.

They broke ground in 2023.

The Lego plant in Vietnam has been opened just this month.

I know. I didn't attribute it to tariffs or to Trump. Just pointing out toys can be made here and will be made here.
