Confidence is at a new low in Indianapolis Colts' field general Anthony Richardson

Recommended Posts

I think he's somebody that would need to be in the exact right offense to succeed.

He's not in that. Doesn't look too promising.

In my dynasty league where we get big bonus pts for TDs over 40 and 50 yds, he's worth keeping around for his deep ball alone

There is no "news" in that article (at least nothing new that wasn't already obvious when Dimes was signed 3 months ago).  We already knew that the Colts needed to see Richardson to play better and if he can't beat out Jones in camp, he won't be the Colts starter in 2025.

Coaches jobs are on the line. Thats what's going to get Richardson off the Field. If he sucks in camp then he's done, career over as a QB.

Depends on who the one is that pulled the trigger on Richardson.  Oddly, Richardson has a winning record as a starter and Steichen is .500 as the HC.  They've been at worst, league average over the last two seasons on offense, but bottom tier on defense.  I don't think Steichen's job is at all tied to Richardson... even if it were him that campaigned for him.  If it were Ballard, then I think Steichen is definitely safe.  I think Jones is a better fit for that offense anyway.  He's closer to a comp to Hurts than Richardson is.  If Jones shows to be a competent QB in training camp, he might win the job and as long as the defense doesn't stink, they should be at worst, a 9-win team.

I'd agree with this analysis.   If Richardson can fix his accuracy issues and throwing mechanics, he has a bit more upside.  but that sort of thing is difficult to fix.   it can take years to overcome and unlearn the bad habits that have been learned for years.   some players can fix it.... but some never do.   What Richardson needs is a good QB coach who specializes in fixing the throwing motion and an offense that will be patient with him.

I dont know enough to know who is good for that and who isnt.   He may already have a good throwing coach, and if that is the case, maybe thats why they have brought in Danny Dimes.

I do think as of today Danny Dimes is likely the better QB.  but due to the age of Richardson, I think Danny doesnt just need to be better to steal the starting job.  He needs to be a lot better.   so barring a complete meltdown I do think Richardson will likely be the starter at QB to start the year.   but he will be on a short leash.    a couple of bad games and it will be Danny Dimes time.

Dynasty folks, what are you doing with this guy? In Superflex I gave Anthony Richardson and a 2026 first for JJ McCarthy. This was right when the Fantasy season ended last year. I couldn't be more thrilled.

McCarthy doesnt have the upside of richardson, but I think he has a better chance of being a Plus starter.    Richardsons potential is sky high, but at this point in his career his chances of meeting that potential is considerably below 50-50. (i'd say probably closer to 20%)

McCarthy has a better chance of being a good starter.     Likely at least 50-50.  possibly 60-40.   but his upside isnt where Richardsons is.

in the end, you got a solid, likely above average starter for a boom bust prospect and a first.   I think thats likely a fair trade.

I'm betting a first round pick that it will never happen for AR. I think he'll be pretty much out of the league in a couple years and McCarthy will be inking a second contract. If Darnold could succeed in Minnesota, then JJ should be a monster there.

and you might be right.

but based on where the market is.   I felt it was a fair trade overall.   you got a guy who is more likely to make it as a QB.   and while the guy you gave up has a higher ceiling, the chances of fulfilling his potential are somewhat low.

its one of those deals that is close enough that I could see some people thinking you may not have made the smartest trade.    but I like the deal.

my two cents worth.

Too big of a gap between the floor and ceiling IMO. I feel like JJ's floor is about the safest of all QBs, with a great ceiling.

of course you do.  thats the main reason you make this deal.   if the floors not there, you're not making that trade.

Not sure how a dude who has never taken a regular season NFL snap can be considered to have a floor.

Sam Darnold looked like Joe Montana in that offense. It's not hard when you have Justin Jefferson to throw to
