A damn shame This is a good place to post this: Secret Base- History of the Minnesota Vikings One episode for every decade, 2 for the 70s. Great watch. I'm on my second time through and been watching it with my son who's just starting to get into the majesty of football. I should probably be reported to CPS for encouraging him to be a Viking fan. I think I've traumatized him pre-emptively. ETA for MN residents who have maybe not heard of this @Drizzay @easilyscan @NorthernVike @Ron 'Tator Salad' Whitealthough I may have already pimped it to one or more of them. Since then, not so much. I have occassionally respected some of their players, most recently Harrison Smith. Second favorite Viking of my lifetime, behind only John Randle. I always liked Favre, despite him being a Packer.

Regrettably all before my time, which started in the mid-late 80s. If I'm not mistaken, those 70s teams represent the largest collection of HOF members on the field at the same time for a team that didn't win a SB. Since then the franchise is 0-7 in NFCCG. They were the only team to give the 87 Redskins a game in the playoffs and were a Darrin Nelson dropped pass in the end zone from tying it late. Denny Green is personally responsible for losing that Falcons game in 98. I don't wanna talk about 2009. While the 98 team's failure hurt the worst, the 09 team flat out got robbed. That one still haunts me. I believe the first playoff game was against the Saints. They destroyed them. Pretty sure there was an article in the star Tribune the following day titled something like this..... what dat gonna beat dem saints, da vikings dat's who! Then they went to San Francisco and crushed the Niners. I liked watching the defense every bit as much as the offense. Keith Millard, Chris Doleman, Henry Thomas, Carl Lee, Joey Browner, Scott Studwell, Jesse Solomon, etc. Seems like the first play on offenses for the Niners was a swing path to Roger Craig. Jesse Solomon planted him! I was working the Sunday they played the Redskins in the NFC championship. 6 AM to 6 PM as a forklift operator. The company provided a TV in the cafeteria. I worked like a madman the first half of the day to get as much done ahead of time as I could so I could watch as much of the game as possible. I have no way to prove it, but I seem to recall a story coming out later that the Redskins had stolen our playbook, or something to that effect previous to the game. That's why I've hated the Redskins ever since.

I will definitely check it out. My first real memories of Football were the '87 playoffs (I was 7). AC was always my favorite. I wore 81 in high school because of him. Even as a Vikings fan I could admit that in most years neither the Vikes or Giants would have advanced that far. Both teams were deeply flawed. The Ravens had an epic D that year but Tennessee's was actually better statistically. Ravens offense went a month without scoring a TD. Weak, weak season all around. They were shocked when the Vikes came in and shelled them. The teams met in the playoffs after the 88 and 89 seasons as well. Aggregate score: 75-22 49ers. Jesus the NFC was insane back then. In a normal era the Bears should have eked out at least one more SB win, but SF, NYG, Redskins were all great during that time.
