Round Four-Six Commentary - July Mock 2025

Recommended Posts

Not usually a QB early guy, but the value of Josh Allen I just can't pass up. Double dipping on Buffalo so early is a risk, but I'm willing to take it.

i'm not in love with where pick 8 is fitting with various runs. Kittle was someone on my radar and I almost talked myself into Evans in round 3 but reasoned that Kamara was still RB5 in PPR points per gam last season. Hoping they funnel the offense through him with QB concerns.

I am there with you, V4E. I have both Nico Collin’s and I just took Mixon, who was (for me) the last RB of a tier. I’m all in on The Texans! Woo Hoo!!!

I really expect that offense to cook this year.  I think you’re in great shape.  Nico was going nuclear last year if I remember correctly.

Did something I never do, take a QB in R4.  We're about wrapping up the 4th round, Daniels was 1 of 2 guys that I have left rated as a 3rd round pick... so I took him.  With 6 picks before my 5th Rd pick, I still have 4 guys with 4th round values.  I'm just taking the guy with the best value... especially since the next 20+ guys, I don't see much of a difference.

I really need a 2nd RB but not willing to reach for a guy just to do it when there’s better value at the 4.12 5.1 turn.  I figure if I’m going to be weak at RB I may as well try to make that up with a top 5 QB in Burrow to go with Jamar.  Now this team clearly goes as Cincy goes with 3 players from that team in the first 4 rounds.  I expect them to be one of the best offenses in the league again this year.
As for the Sutton pick…it was really between him and Flowers.  I went with Sutton because he has very little competition for targets, he really came on in the second half last year, and I expect Nix to take another step forward this year in his development.

Was happy to see Harrison make it to me.  He was one of the guys I was hoping would make it back when I passed on WR for Bowers last round.  He was a huge disappointment last year, but his talent is undeniable.  He's locked in as the WR1 on his team and I hope with a year under his belt and, hopefully improved play from his QB, his numbers will improve.

Had to swallow some puke for my fifth round pick.  While I try not to let personal bias influence my draft, it's very hard to pick a Philthydelphia Eagal.  But Devonta was the highest WR left on my board.  He went 68 for 833 and 8 TD's in 13 games last season.  That puts him at just over 15 points a game, which are top 20 numbers.  I don't think Philthy can maintain the running pace they had last year and with a tougher schedule will have to air it out more.  Which is more opportunity for Smith to improve on last year's numbers.  There were two other players that I strongly considered here, but there were too many question marks around them and, waiting on WR, I felt I needed something more reliable.

Harrison makes me REAL NERVOUS. The talent is there, but he's not very fast. He always seems to be in a contested catch situation. He also put on 20 pounds of muscle over the offseason (which he DID NOT NEED!) and he now looks like David Boston used to and I fear that it will have the same affect on him. It will only slow him down more. Like you said, though, it's hard to argue with a guy that is his teams #1 WR and had one of the best rookie seasons EVER for a WR.

Man, I still remember seeing Boston in that first game after he bulked up like that.  He looked like an edge rusher running down the field.  It never looked right to me.

He was out of the league about 2 years after he bulked up. He just kept getting bigger. If I remember correctly, he wanted to become a professional body builder (which obviously going to inhibit his playing career).

Grabbed Mahomes here since I won't have a pick in a long time and didn't want to miss out.  Was able to get him in the 7th round in the June draft but I'm just as happy getting him in the 6th round this draft.

I’ll also add that I’m probably going to have to start reaching a little just to accommodate needs.

I was hoping Pollard would slide to me @ 6.07 but WW nabbed him. Soooo... let's go ahead and take the Rice gamble. I'm thinking he gets a 4-game suspension, which seems worth the risk at this point in the draft. I'll have to come up with some RB depth answers later in the draft.

I almost took the Rice gamble with my last pick.  But felt having my WR2 looking at a suspension would be putting me behind the 8-ball.  I would have grabbed him at the next turn.  Grabbing a 2/3 round WR in the sixth round is excellent value.

I really like the Rice pick.  Regardless of the suspension, he’ll be a force when it matters in the second half and is clearly the favorite target now in KC.

This is another reason it was a digestible pick for me. I already had three receivers, with Rice being my 4th. Probably wouldn't have done it with just two wideouts (let alone one) on my roster.

Rice was certainly on my radar, as was Tet. I drafted Rice in the June Mock, before most recent news... if he only gets 4 games, I will feel I made a mistake. If he gets 6-8 or something then I won't be disappointed. I even considered him where I picked Ridley. Ridley I think is going to be a steal this year as a WR3 or in some cases 4.

Pollard doesn't excite me but he gives me a floor at RB3 with no shared bye weeks.

They say that it might be up to 8 games for his suspension. I would think that 4. Or 5 might be about right. The guy has been money when he has been on the field.

Really like all the WR picks in Round 6...

  • Jaylen Waddle
  • Rashee Rice
  • George Pickens
  • Tetairoa McMillan

💪

Waddle could be the steal of this draft if Hill gets moved out of Mia

I usually shy away from rookies, but I think Kaleb Johnson is in a great position.  Najee Harris' departure vacates almost 300 touches and Johnson found a lot of college success coming out of a system that runs the same scheme as the Steelers.  Obviously, Warren isn't going away but I think once Johnson finds his footing he can easily replicate the numbers Harris put up the last three years.  That would put him as a low end RB2/solid RB3.

4.08 James Conner

Under consideration: Omarion Hampton

I was quite confident both Conner and Hampton would be available at this pick and I was also quite confident neither would be available in the 5th, so I took the boring old James Conner since he just puts up top 10 seasons every year and Hampton will likely take a month or so to wrestle the job from Najee.

5.05 Sam LaPorta

Under consideration: Jalen Hurts, Jameson Williams

I almost never take tightends this early, but in my perspective, round 5 is a wasteland.  I like Jameson Williams, and think he's super talented, but he's a bit too high variance for me.  I almost pulled the trigger on Hurts, but felt like LaPorta was more impactful.

6.08 George Pickens

Under consideration: Pacheco, Kaleb Johnson

Pickens is a head case, but I think for this year and this year only he's going to hold it together just to stick it to Pittsburgh... the flip side of the Barkley coin.  Next year all bets are off.  I'm not overly confident in this pick because of aforementioned head caseness, but also because Dak doesn't really throw go-get-em balls.  He wants receivers to be open.  It's like when Dez Bryant fell off when Dak took over for Romo.  Romo used to just throw it up to Dez and Dak was like, "he ain't open" and Dez fell off the map.  Pickens strikes me as a contested catch specialist, but I'm counting on CeeDee drawing enough coverage that Pickens can be a rich man's Michael Gallup.

I would've been perfectly happy with Pacheco and think Kaleb has a clear path to fantasy production, but wide receiver was a bigger need partly because I was looking ahead to round 7 and was pretty sure I was going to be picking Tyrone Tracy.

Loved this pick. I almost took him over Rice. I think Dak will be more inclined to take these shots with Pickens on the receiving end.

I was very close to taking Waddle but decided on Jameson instead.
