If you draft a te in the third rd, and he gets hurt, it matters to that ff owner.  Te, double digit rounds

I got Bowers in 2 money leagues. He ended up getting on 4 of my 5 money league teams; due to other owners dropping him. Not his best season; but that one huge game was definitely a nice one!

We are looking at overall production (including injuries) result..

Anyone who drafted Bowers in the 2nd is hurting. It was also at a cost of a wr1 or a RB1. If you took Kittle in the 4th.. sure its not optimal but your other options were RB3/wr4s so not a huge loss. PLus when he is on the field he scores like TE1. Bowers had one big game.. and now seems to share the field with 2 other good TEs.

I picked up Ertz and Kraft off of waivers.. Ertz had decent production overall way above his ADP and Kraft was killing it before he got knocked out for the year. While it sucked to lose him, it wasnt a big deal because he was free.. and i found another TE (J JOhnson) who produces.

In 2 other games, he got over 14 points.  Last year, he averaged about 15.  I'd say those 2 are fine as well.

In addition to that, in the other 3 games that he played, he was playing injured.  If you're starting an injured player, regardless of position, you should expect lower production.  The fact that he got you almost double digit points is still "acceptable".  Is it desired?  No, but I'd rather have a guy getting about 10 points in games he's injured than playing TE roulette on the waiver wire hoping to find a guy who would do that.  Injuries happen all the time.  Any player you draft, at their position, can get hurt and yield returns that aren't ideal.  I'm never going to sit here and say that people should draft TE's before round 7 or 8, regardless of who the TE is, because if they do get hurt, you've really put yourself behind the 8-ball.  That said, if you take one and get production that is "acceptable", then all is well.

The person who drafted Tucker Kraft, I'm sure isn't too happy about his TE position, regardless of where he drafted him.  Outside of that person being the one who drafted Bowers, McBride, or Kittle early, I don't envision any of them having another TE on their roster when Kraft got hurt and now they're juggling FA/WW TE's every week.  Point being as mentioned above, guys get hurt.  It doesn't matter when you draft them.

The difference is that you can easily find a TE in rd 8+ that has similar production to Bowers  (if bowers is not lights out every game liek this year)  you're not finding a rb1 or wr1 after the 8th rd..  (not counting backups for injured players)

What rounds were Rico Dowdle, Javonte Williams, Trevor Etienne draft in?  How about Pickens, Egbuka, or McMillian?

to the underlined, this varies year to year. for quite a few years in 1.5 ppr for te, kelce was ranking as a top 3 wr (worth a first rd pick to me). his tier was about 100+ pts higher than the next best te.

this year i saw an over dip coming for the position with an argument to be made for the top 5 finishing as the #1.  still worth grabbing around rounds 3-5 imo.... again, depends on scoring system

Here's what I've experienced in those years with Kelce.  The team who had him, was always in playoffs... for a team who traded for him.

I had him for a long time in a 4 player keeper (1.5 ppr).  Finally dropped him this season as last year i drafted bowers… drafted Warren. (Kept brown, Bucky, jj, bowers)

Kelce has brought me a lot of success when ive been able to get him

I got Warren in the 8th round....an unproven rookie......I'm quite happy so far.

Sure, that happened in my keeper league as well.  It's because the guy who had Kelce, kept him because he initially got him quite late in the draft and was able to keep him at a deal.  Looking over my notes, the guy drafted him in 2015, in the 16th round (our draft is 20 rounds).  I'm guessing all keeper leagues work this way, where the players round value doesn't go up until after he's kept?  That's how ours works.  So, in 2016, that's what Kelce was, a 16th round pick.  In 2017, he's 14th, then 12th in '18, 10th in '19, 8th in '20, 6th in '21, and 4th in '22.  Every year, he's a value.  The guy who drafted him, stoped after the 2021 season.  He traded him though in that off-season whom that guy paid a the 4th round pick.  While a value, the worst of all the years.

In re-draft leagues though, I don't recall more than a couple seasons where the guy who drafted Kelce in R1 or R2 made the playoffs.  I've been in the same 4 leagues since 2010.  I can count on 1 hand how many times the guy who drafted Kelce won the championship.  So from 2015 to 2024... 40 years of leagues, less than 5 (I think three), times, did the Kelce drafter, win the championship.  At least twice as many, won with Kelce, because they traded for him.

I drafted McBride in the late 3rd.  Picks after him were guys like James Conner, Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, Omarion Hampton, Terry McLaurin, Marvin Harrison, Kenneth Walker.

Thank god I didn't listen to weepaws and wait for the double digit rounds.  Gives me a 4 ppg advantage over the average opponent in my league.  Whew.

And you drafted Fields at Qb, which gave you a minus ten over any of your other seven opponents, unless you lied about Fields, which would be you.  Thanks.

I did draft Fields in exactly one league.  But I also drafted Goff.  Then I picked up Dart.

Weepaws thinks I wouldn't have a backup plan.  first time playing FF I guess. ☝️

Also means you passed up players like J Cook, Achane, Jacobs, Ja Williams, G Pickens, London, JSN, D Adams, Egbuka, yeah players that produced, let join your eight player league next year, what does it cost, a penny.

Those players all went well after my next pick and well after the 3rd, dummy.  This is why you are bad at drafting.

Weepaws first time playing FF.  Thinks you should draft someone you can get in the 5th, 6th, or 7th round in the 3rd just to not take the TE1 there.  smh.

Really, mm, Cook early third rd adp, Jacobs mid second, Achane early second, London mid second, JSN mid third, so all these players, based on your own testimony, in your league went well after the third rd, yeah , I want to join that league.

well, my philosophy is not many TE can score at the pace of a starting WR.  So if a TE capable of doing that is on the board in round 3-5 I take him.    At that point you are into WR2/3 territory and you are filling a spot that for some teams will be a dead spot on the roster getting no more than 5 or 6 points per week.

and when a player gives you an advantage of 3-5 points every week they are worthy of an early round pick.

only downside, if you take a TE that early you had better be sure of what hes gonna deliver.

you take a TE early and whiff on the pick thats a big loss.

so if taking a TE (or QB) early you NEED to nail the pick.
