Las Vegas tourism slumps this summer, signaling trouble for U.S. economy

I'll take your word for it. I haven't been in almost 15 years, but went a bunch in the aughts. It was never inexpensive. You could get some deals, sure, but I remember going in 2007 with just my wife for 3-4 days (by car so no airfare) and dropping a few grand while basically breaking even gambling (down about $200). Even back then tickets to a couple shows, a few nice meals, booze, and a helicopter/ limo ride racked up that tab.

I've never seen cheap Vegas.

Traveling with a woman was your mistake.

Go with your buds and the costs get split, so you end up in a nicer place for less money. Go with your female and the costs all at least double.

This is really the only way to do Vegas and pretty much what we do when we go there.

ETA: The prices in Vegas have gone up exponentially. Paying to park AT the hotel you're staying at can be up to $50/night. Bottles of water are $15. Not to mention the price of food, events, cocktails, etc. It's no longer a place for families (not that it ever has been, but still).

I don’t completely agree with that it’s not family friendly. They have an incredible water park, red rock, Hoover Dam, boating on Lake Meade, and great hotels with great animates for kids and teens. It’s not that far of a drive to the Grand Canyon that you can go to Flagstaff on Route66.

I won’t go back though. Way to much walking to expensive now. And I’ve been a few times. I’d rather go to beaches or cities I haven’t visited yet. My time is limited.

So there was a show in Vegas last weekend that I would have LOVED to see had I known about it earlier (Deadmau5).

I looked up prices for ONE night in Vegas, and each room was eerily over $300/night, if you wanted to stay at one of the larger hotels on the strip. Add in air fare, food, etc and it would easily have been around $1500 for ONE NIGHT in Vegas.

Perhaps that's why people don't go much anymore. 🤷‍♀️

I was discussing a group trip to Vegas next year with some friends, and this keeps coming up. You go there for a weekend, you're dropping $2500 easy, and that's if you don't gamble or break even. I can think of more enjoyable ways to spend that much over a weekend, and even have something to show for it afterwards besides a bad hangover and regret.

Yep the costs there have gotten insane and you don’t even get free Buffets any more.  I’m going there next month and I’m staying downtown cause the strip is out of the question

We are headed to the Bahamas in a few weeks. Never been before. I hear it is more expensive than Vegas and we are staying at The Cove too. And they have casinos.

It might be more expensive, but the weather is nicer, and yaknow, the Caribbean! I'd rather spend $5k-$10k on a badass cruise/resort for a week than $2500 for a weekend in LV.

That's a good point. I have never left the continental USA before either. I just got my 1st passport.

You're gonna have the time of your life. You really can't go wrong in the Caribbean, assuming you're booking with legit companies and staying out of the areas filled with bad hombres.

We are staying at the Cove. Aunt and Uncle gamble there a lot, they got us the gamblers rate of like 200 a night instead of the 700 or whatever it costs to stay there

They are expecting us to gamble as well. I guess i'll bring 5k :dunno:

Report back with ledger on wins/losses and the cup size of each of the randos that you hit on but strike out.

Good luck at the tables!

Have fun Ed.  They have a waterpark where you're going?  One of these days I'd like to do a Caribbean resort vacation.

if you stay at The Cove (anywhere at Atlantis) you get 2 free tickets per day. Anyone can purchase a ticket that doesn't stay there and go as well.

Atlantis has appealed to me for a long time. travel time from the west coast has been prohibitive.

please report back... i have heard that it is in need of some renovations.

have a great time!
