Public school Spanish class for 6th grader

My son took spanish the 2nd half of last year.

He got an 83 and an 83 with a rating of "excellent" and the teacher said on his report card "Shows talent in subject area"

I sh1t you not, other than Si, he doesn't know a single focking word of spanish

I took it as a freshman is high school. I learned more spanish from Team America. "No me gusta."

I took HS french.  Why, I don't know. It was either that or spanish.  My parents were telling me to take spanish but I didn't wanna.

Anyway, 3 years of HS french.  I signed up for junior year honors in it.   I get in the class, and they are pretty much speaking french all the time and I was lost.  I guess I faked the earlier years.   Had to drop that class.   Brutal

I took 3 years of espanol. 8th grade (faled) 9th grade (passed) 10th grade Espanol 2 (failed) and in typical edjr fashion, I quit

I was actually fairly fluent in Spanish back in the day.  Took 2 years in JR High and another year in HS.  The only time I really used it was when I worked at McDonalds.  There was a guy from Mexico who worked there and whenever I'd come in to work we'd chat a little bit in Spanish but just briefly.  Usually it was something like he'd ask "Como Esta Tu Novia" and I'd respond "Bien" and then start cooking Big Macs.  Haven't used it since.  I think I can still count to like 20 in Spanish.  What a focking waste of three years of classes.

 I swear to God on my broken liver, my Spanish teacher in HS was huge flaming fruity cake. I passed after Spanish 2, and prolly shouldn’t have . Anywho, I I found he reassignment surgery and is now Consula.

Yeah, I took French has well.  In my defense, I had it in grade school as part of a pilot program of early immersion (IMO it failed, as I can't speak it and can barely read some).  And this was Pennsylvania in the 80s, so we were closer to the frogs in Quebec.  So the choice to have it as a punt class in HS was easy.  Well, mostly easy.  The Spanish teacher was muy caliente, whereas the French teacher was the frumpy wife of a vice principal.

Living in Phoenix for 35 years, I've picked up a decent amount of Mexican, particularly reading which is easier than speaking IMO.  My kids had it in school and are way better at it than I am.  They probably learned more working at servers at places like Denny's than they did in school, tho.
