Liberal Icon Joanne Chesimard

Recommended Posts

Has died in exile in Cuba. She was convicted of the murder of a NJ state trooper in 1973 and later escaped prison and was aided by other liberals when she fled to communist Cuba. She was a ranking member of the Black Liberation Army. She was 78. The left has glorified political violence for a long time.

Never heard of her and, no, a convicted murderer of a LEO would not be considered a liberal icon. Please.

Yet, America voted into office of president a criminal, and one that calls Pedro Epstein friend.

Let’s see: The women’s march official twitter account  acknowledged her birthday, CCNY has a student lounge named after her,  numerous college professors have spoken glowingly about her, damn near every rap star has a song about her, BLM referred to her as an icon.  I could go on, but reasonable people of at least normal intelligence get the picture. She committed political violence of the most extreme and was celebrated by the left. These are facts, and they are not in dispute.

I figured you didn't know what you were talking about so I looked up one of your claims and as usual I was right.

AI Overview
While the City College of New York (CCNY) did have a student center named in part for Joanne Chesimard (also known as Assata Shakur), it no longer exists. The center was closed by the college in 2013 after years of controversy over its name.

[...]

She may an icon for a small number of people on the left but that does not make her a liberal icon

I was going off of memory.  I remember the controversy, but hey, great catch and thanks for confirming the part about a student lounge in her name existing.  lol.

I'm sure you're crying waterslides over every single cop that's ever been killed in this country and know by heart the names of every single perp.

STFU for once in your miserable life.

Yes he did. I’m sure our resident liberals have ne er heard of the Fraunces Tavern bombing in NYC. People were just eating lunch. Another example of left wing political violence being condoned by democrats.

Good memory Grandpa!

Try googling “David Nicholas Dempsey” for something from this century. He’s really neat.

I think you meant "conservative icon and hero and definitely not a domestic terrorist David Nicholas Demspey."

Any songs about him or college courses covering his deeds in a positive light? No? Ok then, STFU.

It was named by students and it no longer exists:

  • Original naming: In the early 1990s, student groups named a lounge in the college's Finley Hall the Guillermo Morales/Assata Shakur Community and Student Center. Both Shakur and Morales were former CCNY students and fugitives accused of being involved with bombings and the killing of a New Jersey State Trooper.
  • Controversy and removal: After media attention drew renewed controversy to the center's name, the chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY) ordered the name removed in December 2006.
  • Closure: In 2013, the center was permanently closed by CCNY officials, and the space was repurposed.

No. Been to many a funeral or memorial service. Visit the officer down memorial page and leave T&P’s often.  Have some friends on there unfortunately.  I hope the kind words bring a smile to their loved ones face

You told us that already. Again, thanks for confirming its existence at one time.

It existed and the name removed 19 years ago. That does not help your case that she is currently considered a liberal icon.

Can you imagine the nerve of these MFers naming it after a killer

Oh well, if they took the name down because people rightly objected and the building doesn't exist anymore, I guess that means the people that originally supported it all changed their minds and don't see this woman as an icon.

This chick.

Ive heard of her.  She was like Tupac's Godmother or something.   She was revered by many for whatever reasons.  She was into communism.  Like HT said, many universities and groups named things after her and honored her for whatever reasons.

Rather iconic I’d say. Jay z sings about her. Along with nearly every other hip hop and rap star. If you want to call that singing.
