Much to my surprise , the polling so far shows that the public is on the side of the Democrats and mostly blame Trump and the Republicans:

Schumer knew exactly the possible consequences (since Trump threatened to do that) but he and Democrats are making a principled stand to protect the healthcare of millions of Americans - it is the right thing to do irrespective of the consequences IMO.

Unlike @supermike80 and some others here, I don’t question polls unless they appear to be outliers. I take them as snapshots but meaningful ones. I anticipated the public would blame Democrats. Though I agree with the Democrat message overall I thought it would be harder to sell. So I’m pleased. 
 

That being said I’m skeptical that the Dems can win this, if winning this means the Republicans will concede on healthcare. I don’t see that happening. If it goes on too long both sides will be looking for an out. The key for me is that this affair doesn’t hurt Democrats in the November 2026 elections. Those elections are really the only important political event: none of this other stuff matters compared to that.
