Trump promises cuts to programs favored by Democrats

Recommended Posts

President Donald Trump said Thursday the administration will begin cutting programs backed by Democrats as the government shutdown stretches into its ninth day.

โ€œWeโ€™re only cutting Democrat programs, I hate to tell you, but we are cutting Democrat programs,โ€ the president said during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday. โ€œWe will be cutting some very popular Democrat programs that arenโ€™t popular with Republicans, frankly.โ€

Trump, motioning to Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, said the administration will make permanent cuts to government programs that he views as Democratic priorities, but did not elaborate on specifics.

โ€œThatโ€™s the way it works,โ€ he said. โ€œThey wanted to do this so we will give them a little taste of their own medicine.โ€

Trump and administration officials have indicated many times that theyโ€™d make dramatic cuts, including mass layoffs, during a shutdown, but many of those cuts havenโ€™t come to fruition.

He can try. Dont think this is legal.ย

It can be decided by Congress, not Trump if the spending was approved by congress previously. He does however have discretionary spending cuts with the OMB.ย

It will likely all be challenged in court anyways.ย

Heโ€™s talking about permanent cuts. Donโ€™t believe thatโ€™s legal.ย
I also donโ€™t believe that Congress will ever actually agree to vote to cut programs popular with the American public.ย

According to gutter they can do whatever they want with a simple majority using thisย nuclear option.ย  Not sure why you guys wanted them to do that.

Doesn't matter if it's legal.ย  Trump should only follow laws he wants to.ย  That's your stance so why would you hold him to a different standard?

It's not, propose law... Vote on law... President sign law?ย ย

I thought the vote law is where you guys want us to change the rule to whatever you want now isn't it?

I'm not advocating for using the nuclear method, I just said it's available as an option.ย  You told me it wasn't.ย  You're dumb.

As far as spending cuts, he's not talking about legislation, he's just gonna cut, which makes it illegal.

Get a load of this BS.

@Ray_Tย This guy is blaming Republicans for not using the nuclear option to force through their bill and open up the government.ย  Now he's saying he's not advocating they use it.ย  Sayingย stuff just to say stuff again I guess.

And yeah, they can permanently cut anything the want by forcing through any law they want using this nuclear option that you are blaming them for not using but apparently don't advocate they use.

Like I told you before @Ray_Tย you don't need 60 votes to end the shutdown.ย  Nobody told you you did but he's proven himself to be an idiot.ย  He now realizes Republicans can end this whenever they want.ย  He's Russian and actively roots against America and Canada.

He also has no idea that Trump has illegally cut congressional approved funding and is threatening to do it again.

@Ray_Tย read his post above this one.ย  He clearly says he doesn't advocate using it, but blames them for not using it which is what I said he would do... Call them authoritarian if they did do it.

Now I'll ask again.ย  If the options are:

  1. Blue team accepts the red team's offer to continue keeping the government open under all current funding while they continue to negotiate
  2. The red team can force through the budget bill using this nuclear option with no negotiation that the 3rd biggest wannabe wokie on this site says he doesn't advocate doing.

Who is more responsible for the current shutdown?

@Ray_Tย who are you gonna listen to?

The guy that said you need 60 votes only later to agree you only need 50 after I told him that?

Or

The guy that explained to him how the US government actually works?

Uncle Ron has your back bruh.

It doesnt matter who I listen to.ย  ย I'm canadian.ย  my vote doesnt matter in the Ol US of A.ย  ย  Even if I lived there, my opinion still likely doesnt matter.

but in looking at your government, it clearly was put together in such a way that its next to impossible to get anything done.ย  ย Likely because the people who wrote the original laws of the country were distrustful of government in the first place.

Not sure if that is good or bad.ย  ย  it is what it is.

but your government runs so differently from the Canadian Government a lot of the issues were not fully making sense.

I at least have a better idea of where and what those issues are.

There are things I do like about the united states.ย  ย  but the government and the way it operates isnt one of them.ย  ย part of this is due to the system in place.ย  its very adversarial and that can be destructive at times.

I do hope the 'Reds' and the 'Blue's'ย  can figure out a way to work together for the sake of the American people.ย ย but based on what I have seen, I dont see that happening in the near future.ย  ย

and I think the American people deserve better.ย

a functioning government is better than one that does not function.

and thats where you guys are right now.....

both sides have to learn to play nice in the sandbox.
