Per the NYT, The Trump administration told states to undo any steps to provide full food stamp benefits to low-income families, threatening financial penalties if the states do not comply. It was unclear how that would affect the program.

I'd be fine if SAS fell into a bottomless chasm today. I don't GAF what he thinks about anything. He's just a shrill talking head to me. I don't think he believes half of what he says. He's built a lucrative career out of being a blowhard. So in that sense, I guess a move toward politics is understandable...

Even with the shutdown soon to be over (should be Wednesday officially) Trump is comtinuing to resist paying out SNAP. He now is asking the Supreme Court to overturn the appeals court decision from this morning.

Its a legal battle.  And it makes sense.   The republican party has been focused on stopping these judges from places like Rhode Island overstepping their authority.  It's beyond SNAP.  It's about procedure and who can dictate what.

If this were actually the case Trump would announce that he is going to fight the decision in court for the purpose you stated, but that in the meantime he’s going to pay the SNAP benefits in full because he expects the shutdown to end later this week so it’s all a moot point anyhow. 
 
But he’s not doing that.,He’s not paying and over the weekend he threatened states that paid out any monies already with punishment if they continued to do so. That has nothing to do with the legal battle. Which is why you’re wrong. Trump is withholding these funds because he (a) mistakenly believes they mostly go to Democrats (he said this just the other day) and (b) he wants to punish Democrats and cause them pain. 

A big part of the reason that Trump continues to get away with this kind of crap is that people like you constantly attempt to offer rational excuses after the fact.

Of course many of the same people blaming Trump for the shut down are also pissed that there was a compromise. Color me shocked at the hypocrisy from the left.
