If you noticed the people critical of this in the article are hardcore maga types.

I don’t know the details, you don’t sound like you do either. In typical Trump fashion he haphazardly introduces some new policy and it’s everyone else’s fault for asking questions and they become fake news or some enemy. You are doing that right now.

I don’t care who’s critical or not. I don’t care what anyone else says or thinks. I don’t care if you ask questions.

I care about money helping the economy. It’s the idiots in here comparing this to illegals that p1ss me off. This sounds like a solid investment to me

Well you certainly seem like pinning this as something liberals are critical of is important. Why is that?

You are bringing other issues into this. Why?

For the economy factor we don’t know if this move helps the economy. I don’t buy this “it’s a big windfall for the universities” bullshit. Do you? Like this fat fock cares about this. Pretty obvious this was part of the negotiations.

I think smart people will want to live here after getting educated so there’s that. Definitely not all of them though. I don’t particularly have an issue with helping out China in that regard but I’d be surprised if everyone agreed with that.

There is also the issue with are these people taking spots of Americans in school? There are finite spots in college as well in post graduate training like becoming say a doctor. Are those now being taken by Chinese students who can then leave when they are done.

sorry but 60-200 billion will go somewhere, IN THE United States

I dont care if foreigners come here legally for school, and after they have high end degrees I am all for them continuing to stay here and work with visas or work to become citizens.  I will say that about EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY.

college applicants are down big, there is no idea whether they are taking spots of Americans, but lets assume they are.  A college is still more likely to take the A) more qualified student, and b) the one who pays

paying for college yourself is the single most determining factor on getting a degree

also it sounds like the initial plan was to cut the amount of Chinese Visas in half so there are likely already 600k and Trump was going to cut to 300k but then realized how much it could harm the economy of the colleges

again, I dont care if its Trump, Biden or whoever

bringing jobs and money to America is always good to me if you come here legally

If they are taking spots of other college kids they’d just be displacing them and the money they were going to spend.

Is there no concern for these people being spies any longer? This was reasoning just a bit ago from Don. Is there no concern that these students will take all this education and bounce back to China that was Mike Flynn’s concern.

no idea, I dont listen to Trump, or Mike Flynns concern, why would I care if a Chinaman gets an education in America and goes back to China?

Question: How many Chinese Students are currently in college in the US

As of the 2023–24 academic year, there are approximately 277,398 students from the Chinese mainland enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions. This number has seen a decline from previous years, with the total number of Chinese students in the U.S. falling below 280,000 in 2024. In the past, the number was higher, with 289,526 students reported for the previous academic year.

How Much is College Enrollment Down in the US

The US college enrollment has been declining at a steady rate for over a decade. Undergraduate enrollment is down about 8.5% from 2010. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) tracks total undergraduate fall enrollment in degree-granting postsecondary institutions and provides breakdowns according to attendance status, sex and ethnicity of student, and type of institution (public or private). The decline has been significant, with undergraduate college enrollment dropping from 18.1 million to 15.8 million over the last 13 years. This decline is attributed to various factors, including a declining birth rate and a decrease in the foreign-born population. The anticipated enrollment cliff in 2024-2025 academic year is expected to have a profound impact on current applicants and incoming college students.

Do people really not understand that this takes spots from American kids at the best colleges and universities? These Chinese students aren't going to Tuscaloosa Community College lol.

Attendance to technical programs like becoming a doctor and engineering programs are not down. The areas you like to mock like history or sociology are where the numbers are down.

Trump did it so it's good....that's how MAGA types like Raiders think...

So wait sorry- Raiders is the "most centrist poster here." Just let him tell you an issue or two in order to prove it..Forget where he defends everything Donald does.

again show me a policy list and I will show you as centrist as it gets

this policy seems good to me, as my responses have continued to have nothing to do with Trump.  and OPPOSES MAGA according to other posters here, so how can it be both

for the record if Trump came out tomorrow and gave 5 million illegals temporary work visas while they established residency and got on track to do it the right way, I would be completely on board with that, as I have ALWAYS been pro visas

Oh I see. And for post graduate training like residency at hospitals. They can just make more of those spots too. This seems unlikely especially in the short term.

These are limited positions. These Chinese students will be taking these is problematic is the argument. First, because the spots are limited and they are taking them from American born students. Second, these Chinese have a good chance of leaving here after receiving all the training. Third, they could be “spies” or just here to take information.

does it say anything about post grad?

we really think that an additional 75000 students a year on average graduating is going to be a problem

most are going into tech fields with likely some in medical services

Who knows? You don’t. It might be a problem to the US kid who didn’t get into medical school or the computer science program

But you have determined that this is ok without any information. Some might say it is because Trump said it in an interview.

Obama deported something like 2-3 million illegals. They called him the Deporter in Chief.

He’s also been out of office for a decade. What does this have to do with the current Hypocrite in Chief?

But Obama didn’t change his policy. You gave me a quote saying he was against illegal immigration. He deported millions of immigrants. What’s the issue?

I didn’t vote for Biden.

Look, I get it: Daddy says a thing and you want to agree with Daddy, but then he changes his mind and you look like a fool. That makes you sad and mad.

Maybe one day you’ll realize Daddy doesn’t GAF about you and has no principles except for making bank.

Please note: I am over the moon happy about the Chinese students coming. I’m learning to speak Chinese and I love their culture, it’s a win in my book.
I’m just shocked and amazed that conservatives spouting “Americans first” seems to have left the tips of their tongues.
