edjr 6,913 Posted 4 hours ago https://secure.ssa.gov/ Does anyone ever log in and check their retirement? Assuming I make the same as I do now going forward If I retire at 62 I get $2107 (less than 9 years) If I retire at 67 I get $3137 If I retire at 70 I get $3929 Seems to be "retiring" at 62 and still working makes the most sense. This doesn't count what is in my 401k and roth accounts

I want as big an SS paycheck as possible down the road
Drizzay 747 Posted 2 hours ago I am 46 years old and am not counting on receiving 1 cent from SS when I finally get to retirement age.
RaiderHaters Revenge 4,567 Posted 2 hours ago SS is such a scam, it should be abolished and reformed without doubt we dont have 2 kids to replace us like our parents did
Grace Under Pressure 190 Posted 2 hours ago These attitudes you've picked up about Social Security are exactly what will lead to them taking it away from you. "I don't count on receiving anything!" Why not? Are you unwilling to fight for what you've been paying into, forcibly, for your whole career? With only 16 years left until you would receive benefits? "Abolish Social Security!" Why? A few simple reforms, like abolishing the cap, could ensure its solvency for 80 years. These attitudes are what certain politicians want you to believe, and what mega-millionaires pay them to say. Don't be a stooge.

I'd be surprised if abolishing the cap would have that large of an effect. Do you have a link showing such an analysis? I always thought the solution was to raise the disbursement age, which nobody will do because it is a 3rd rail with the older crowd, but which absolutely should be done. Life expectancy has risen significantly since SS was implemented, and it was never intended to fund 20+ years of retirement.
Grace Under Pressure 190 Posted 2 minutes ago Raising the cap is one of a few simple reforms that can increase solvency. Not all by itself, but it helps. Agreed that raising the age is another reform, they should implement something gradual that makes sense on this as well. People throwing their hands up and parroting mega millionaire talking points like “Abolish it all!” is unhelpful in crafting solutions.
