The issue of wealthy people getting ACA benefits is a red herring. How do I know? Because moderate Republicans have spent the last several weeks attempting to come up with a compromise plan that would extend the subsidies but restrict people with too much income from getting them. The leadership killed the amendment because (a) they don’t want to extend the subsidies period and (b) the amount of wealthy people who actually take advantage of ACA is so small as to be almost irrelevant; it’s simply a Republican talking point.

It’s the same old tropes I remember all the way back to the 80s. Any kind of government benefits are labeled as communist, and anybody that uses them is a lazy welfare queen.

Except for all the people who get free Medicare or free public schools or drive on free public roads or use the library, etc….

People love getting free stuff; but many hate it when somebody else gets free stuff. It’s nuts that people living a good life get angry when the child of destitute person gets free lunch at school, or in this case - health insurance.

People who retire early, quite a bit early, would be considered wealthy yes?   Choices are paying full price ar having a plan to take advantage of the subsidies.  I pay $175/mo now compared to Cobra which was $1,400.  And I could manage my MAGI easy enough to pay $0, but, I want to convert as much retirement funds as I can to Roth.  Could do a lot more if the stupid Republicans would just extend the covid subsidies and get rid of the cliff.

It's not just that they hate "Obamacare" because their cult leader tells them to, although that is part of it. There's a wider picture at play here being pushed by the wealthiest of the wealthy (not you).

They have gold-plated health insurance for life. That's for them, not you. They don't want "regular people" having anywhere near the same level of health care that they enjoy.

Notice how commercial air travel just keeps getting worse? Again, they fly private or charter. They don't want you having the same access to air travel that they have. Used to be that regular Americans could get to their destinations reliably, safely, and even with some modicum of dignity. Not anymore, if they can help it. That's for them, not you.

All aspects of American life are going in this direction. Housing, education, youth sports. The wealthiest of the wealthy do not want you having the same or even similar opportunities that they enjoy. That is for them, not you. All policies since Trump took over his second term have gone this direction. It's basically Project 2025 in a nutshell. Enabled by MAGA, the most gullible and easily manipulated movement we've seen in America.
