I think some of it is age related.  As with most historical lessons, whether they be failed socialist/communist experiments or attacks such as 9/11, these lessons tend to fade over time as generations come of age who cannot remember them.  The older liberals I think honestly know better but to ever win elections, their coalition now must include those younger people who would chant "From the River to the Sea" or embrace socialist policies.  I don't think it's uniquely a liberal or left problem, for instance I'm pretty uncomfortable with some things Tucker Carlson has been saying even though I'm sure politically we may vote similarly at least in national elections.  I do think on the left it's more age and fringe related, whereas on the right it's more of a fringe thing that isn't really an age related issue.

I’m not mad about 80 dollars that goes to feeding anyone. That actually needs it. I’d like to know why I pay for school lunches for everyone, even those that make far more than I do? Make that make sense please

That's a great point. Sometime within the past couple of years, Minnesota went that route (free school lunch for all regardless of income) They even make lunches available during the summer. 

All it amounts to is more control for the Democrats. Get the masses used to government providing everything. Once they do that, they own you.
