I don't see the post now, but somebody bumped something where he said he had "a retirement goal of $2M (now $3M)". I read that as he had exceeded his goal by $1M, because otherwise, wouldn't you just say your goal was $3M? Anyway, he says that he meant he increased his goal. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he also said he has a total net worth of $610K, and he isn't too far from retirement, so I would conclude that he is a bean counter who doesn't understand math.

Boy Scouts of America rebranding, changing name to Scouting America

Thanks, I didn't realize that. In that case I have no objections. -
Is this your centrist way of saying that BeachGuy blatantly lied about his retirement savings?
-
Hey @BeachGuy23, I never saw your answer to: do you hate plurals in your work communications as well? Or is the lack of pluralization a secret corporate finance exec code, kinda like the Fight Club nod? TIA!
-
I know, I feel bad for mentioning the balance sheet/income statement/cash flow thing, it probably overly confused him.
-
Ouch. I feel bad for beachguy now, this has been painful to read, and I'm not a vindictive sort. I don't expect him to respond to my questions about his job and lack of grammar skills, since it would be embarrassing for him. I'll presume he's risen to "CFO" of a small company with a few salespeople selling their plastic spoons, and he has some perception of control over them.
-
Nope, not in what I did, depending on how good a year I had. Two serious questions: 1. Regarding the bolded, do you hate plurals in your work communications? 2. What does your company do? If not plastic spoons, I don't want to be unfair. I was in the electronic design automation (EDA) industry.

One more thing on this and then I'll stop. I played baseball and golf in HS, and one year of each in college. Baseball was freshman second semester through sophomore first semester. The summer between those two I had a job that got out at 2:30 every day and I went to the Y to work out every day. Did I realize the importance of flexibility and core rotation? No!!! I pushed a lot of weight up and down like the meatheads in the gym, and reported to fall practice with the best looking body of my life... but not really helpful for baseball. I thought of this as I watched Corbin Carroll hit a homer just now. He's not big. But he has that rotational torque. I wish I could go back and tell younger "suns out guns out" Jerry to mix in some yoga and flexibility. -

Those are mine. Quit stalking me! -
Didn't have to, chose to. I was an engineer at first, and have 5 patents. Then moved into sales because I had the rare ability to walk both lines. Later went back to engineering because it was an interesting opportunity. Then back to sales/account management. I would say again that your ilk had zero power in high tech, but you are incapable of comprehending it. Also, I just saw this commercial watching the DBacks/Reds game. Do you wear many hats, Spoonman?
-
I've said this when we had this discussion before. If he were in the finance industry, then yeah, he'd be a possible BMOC. But he's in corporate finance, which is basically saying that he couldn't hang with the big dogs, so he didn't even try to get on the porch. It seems important to him to think that he is important though, so maybe I'll take it easy on him.
-
Spoonman, I've got an EE degree (table stakes to be successful at what I did) as well as an MBA, so I understand all of your "complex" finance like cost accounting and resolving balance sheets, income statements, and cash flows. I guarantee I could do your job a hella lot easier than you could have done mine. Which is why I was paid so handsomely. I tried to explain why my job was way more involved than talking and golf, but you are too dense to get it. Go work on your plurals and come back after your break.

I've got a Mavrik which is default 9 but programmable to 10, which I generally play (I put it back to 9 for Bandon Dunes last year which is hella windy). Even with the 10 I hit it pretty low, which works well in (generally) hard AZ fairways but on a lush course, not so much. I should probably hit more of an 11 or even 12 like you. But @WhiteWonderjust gave me the secret to monster drives so I'm going to try that out first. Seriously. -

Bump to get Spoonman's response.
