Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted June 5, 2015 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/05/49ers-anthony-davis-retires-at-age-25/ The 49ers have once again lost a player to a surprise retirement. Anthony Davis, a 25-year-old offensive tackle who was the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, said in a statement that he is retiring from football. After a few years of thought, Ive decided it will be best for me to take a year or so away from the NFL. This will be a time for me to allow my Brain and Body a chance to heal. I know many wont understand my decision, thats ok, Davis said. I hope you too have the courage to live your life how you planned it when day dreaming to yourself growing up. Your Life is Your dream and you have the power to control that dream. Im simply doing whats best for my body as well as my mental health at this time in my life. Davis had started every game for all five of his NFL seasons until last year, when he missed nine games during an injury-plagued season. Of particular concern was a late-season concussion which had lingering symptoms. I think the niners players know they are in trouble with their new head coach. Odd still that so many from the same team are leaving the game.
Vikings4ever 496 Posted June 5, 2015 Jeebus, has any team seen this many young players retire in the same year?

giraldi02 470 Posted June 6, 2015 I wonder if they have a "Varsity Blues" situation with the medical and/or coaching staff wanting the cobwebs brushed off rather than give them the time they needed. Seems concussions were the reason for a couple of these guys.
roroco 75 Posted June 6, 2015 Apparently, he said on twitter he may be back in a year or so. Sounds like he is just trying to avoid playing for this team, and he is waiting for a trade or change in management. Where are the Niners fans that still think this has nothing to do with the new management and coaching staff? When all the rats are actually jumping ship, than you can assume the ship is actually sinking. I've watched a lot of football in my life... Outside Mayflower shipping the Colts out of Baltimore in the middle of the night, this is the worst off seasons I've seen for a franchise.
Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted June 6, 2015 Has anyone heard the sound bites on Tomsula? He sounds like he has no clue what is going on. We have a local sports talk show called the Boers and Bernstien show who hammer him. Its hilarious. They are rough on most anyone who says or does something stupid, so i always turn my volume up when Tomsula talk is coming. Best sports show in my honest opinion. I listen to a ton of sports talk as we have 3 sports channels. 2 of them are national and 1 is local, the show that B&B are on. It took me a while to warm up to them hammering everyone, but if these people are dumb enough to call their show unprepared or with an illogical stance on a subject, they will get hammered. DrG 94 Posted June 6, 2015 Jim Tonsils (my nickname for him) is the fall guy for GM Baalke. When it implodes Mangini will become the new HC. Hyde does not have Gore's power inside. Yes, I'm pessimistic.

R8RMick 242 Posted June 8, 2015 I swear since the Navarro Bowman injury this team has seemed jinxed. In this case, concussions are just an insane animal and don't blame the kid really.
e-factor 13 Posted June 8, 2015 I swear since the Navarro Bowman injury this team has seemed jinxed. In this case, concussions are just an insane animal and don't blame the kid really. I don't either, in fact I think it's pretty smart. He was only 20 when he was drafted, so still a very young man. Take a year away from the game, reevaluate your condition and then make a decision if you want to come back. He's obviously still feeling some of the effects of the concussion from last year, so why not take the time off now? Sounds like he definitely has plans to come back. e-factor 13 Posted June 8, 2015 Think we will be seeing more players retiring young . Agree With the amount of money they make, they don't even have to be smart with their money, they just need to not be stupid with it. Play as long as you want to and as long as you feel your health isn't at risk long term. Not like they have to "retire" from any work after they retire from football. 30-35 is young in real life and with a 15-20 million earning start, financial life should be a breeze. Stay away from drugs, strip clubs, friends and family that suck off you financially and overly risky investments, and no reason to keep playing until you're 35 and a physical/mental wreck. Edit to add, use a condom so you don't have 8 illegitimate children to support.
