Players kneeling, private business or public event?

Recommended Posts

So the argument goes "It's private business they can do what they want" So NFL rules you can't kneel at work no freedom of speech allowed.

This points out that while it's a private business some stadiums are publicly owned or financed.

Interesting read. It would be kind of funny if the NFL owners are screwed by the stadiums they didn't want to pay for.

Acts of protest that could compromise a teams endorsement or otherwise reputation should be illegal while on company time with tv cameras around.

And internet traffic travels through public infrastructure.

Doesn't mean Twitter is bound by the first amendment.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, virtually every Stadium employees a third party company that hires people to handle everything from security to selling hot dogs.

That company clearly has dress codes and presumably other rules. They're not barred from doing so just because they do work at a publicly-funded stadium.

One angle to this you dont hear much is the question of whether standing for the anthem is a part of their job? For example if your employer said you had to do the pledge every morning you could probably argue that it falls outside your responsibilities right?

Let them kneel and deal with the consequences that result. If an owner wants to punish the team for the actions of one of the players that's on them.

I just want the same ability to yell nig*er right when the anthem is over as my way to protest their protesting.

We cool?

They are getting paid. People get fired for a lot less than what the players do when they kneel. The league did the absolute right thing, because even if the issue was fading, people still stopped giving the NFL money because of what had happened. It's the right move for a privately owned entity
