What do you think FFTodays wide receiver rankings

Recommended Posts

I am in a 12 team PPR Money League- picked ninth. I used the the FFToday cheat sheet on draft day, instead of my own( I have yet to win the big one) so I went with theirs. I went RB-RB-WR-WR for my first four. I drafted Westy-Maroney-R Williams-Deoin Branch. FFToday has my WR's ranked anywhere from twelve to fifteen spots higher than I see in most other places. They have Branch ranked eleventh. They also have Marl Clayton higher than most others. Does anyone think that is to high? I ended up with Williams, Branch, M Clayton, and Jennings. We had a run at QB( three taken in the first round and eleven by the end of round four) The run on QB's messed up the whole draft, as far as my strategy was concerned. Does anyone else think their WR rankings are off? Also having Young ranked in the top eight?

Drafted-

Westbrook

Maroney

Williams

Branch

Ravens

Young

M Clayton

D Foster

Winslow

G Jennings

Lossman

Elam

Acoobee

Raiders

Not comfortable with WR's.

people on here hate branch.

they will definitely say he is not even top 20 material.

i think he is a solid wr2 for a FFL as with Seattle healthy again and a year to mesh with hasselback, he should be good as their wr1

So you went straight from someone else's cheatsheet.....picked accordingly....and now question it? I don't get it? ;)

I'm not big on Branch for the simple fact he has never put up even good numbers. The Seahawks will go back to running SA all day.

I think he is an average #2...

I used Mike's rankings when I went into the draft feeling very comfortable. I made one mistake, picking Branch when I could have had Gates. But that was my mistake, not Mike's. I am only questioning what others think of Branch being so high, when most others have him ranked so low. Is this a "gut feeling" pick? I have Branch as my #2, get it? :)

I like him to produce numbers close to Jackson. I really liked him as a buy low candidate prior to seeing Mike's projections, so when I saw how highly he was projected here, it just cemented in my mind that he would be productive this season.

The Seahawks have a good offensive mind for a coach, a good running game, a good QB and a collection of receivers on the other side that could turn out to be serviceable. Branch is the defacto #1 now, so I predict he puts up Jackson numbers.

I think he's good for 1200 and 8 TDs this year. He'll probably be matched up against Ronde in week 1 though though.

Those are very respectable stats. So why is he ranked 21 in most projections?

Apparently Seattle thinks he is.

Seattle also thought Nate Buerlson was good and worth big bucks so I don't think their judgement is without question. :dunno:

well the nice thing about branch is that he is projected as the 11 WR, but his ADP is mid to late 5th round. I grabbed him as my number 3 WR after TJ and Lee Evans.

That is what is called good value. I think projecting him at 1100-1200 yards and 8-9 TD's is right on and to get that fifth round is great.

I drafted Branch with the 11th pick in the 4th after guys like Driver, Evans, Reggie Brown and Plaxico, but before guys like Vincent Jackson, Coles, Ward, DJax, and Santana Moss. I like his upside better than the guys that came right after, but certainly there were safer picks (I was the one that picked up Coles on the wrap-around). He definitely would not have lasted until I had another turn in the at 6.11, since WR go early in this league.

One thing I learned about fft is that we love the young guns. We rather take a risk on rising stars like Mark Clayton, Lee Evans, and Calvin Johnson than trust old vets like Branch, Coles, Santana Moss, and Joey Galloway.

I have him as my #3 behind Harrison and Housh. He is not well regarded in my league for some reason. I have tried to move him to try to upgrade but get no bites. I am cautiously optimistic that he will put up solid #2 numbers.

Branch does not fall into the same group as Galloway Coles and whoever else you consider "trusty vet"

Coles and Galloway have been putting up 1000 yard seasons for a while......Where is Branch's 1000 yard season?.....he isn't exactly old either.

I aslo have Branch as my # 3 behind CJ and Wayne and feel I have, without a doubt, the best WR corps (for depth I have Kevin Curtis, Santonio Holmes and I took a flier on Jacoby Jones in the last round) in my league. I'm in a PPR league and because there are so many RRBC's, I felt I could get a steal in rounds 5 and 6 in terms of RB's so I rolled the dice and went RB, WR, WR, WR, with my first 4 picks. What lead me to do this was my last year's draft. In the fifth round the highest RB left on my list was Addai. I remember going back and forth all last year because FFT had Addai rated so highly. Because I was sold on any player at that spot in my draft I went with FFT's ranking and rolled the dice with Addai and that pick basically helped me finish second in my league. I had the same feeling this year when drafting Branch.

Yea, you are right on Branch not being old yet...

but let me try to put that in another way...

Seattle looks old with Hasselbeck and SAlexander...so SEA is a turnoff to FFTers.

I think you'll be pretty happy with the team you drafted.

As for Branch, I'm expecting 80 receptions, 1050-1150 yards, and 6-9 touchdowns from him.

I think his lowside would be something like 70 receptions, 850 yards and 4-6 TDs. In my opinion there is more reason to believe he'll go well over those numbers though.

Barring injury there is no reason to think Branch won't match the type of production Darrell Jackson gave Seattle whenever he was healthy.

I'm in two PPR keeper leagues (with the same scoring settings) this year, and I eagerly grabbed Branch in both - with the 71st pick (14-teamer) and the 74th pick (12-teamer). Not only is he the only Seahawk I like fantasy-wise, IDPs excluded, but I think he's in for a big year.

I also drafted Kevin Curtis in both leagues as I think he's a great fit in Philly.

As a Hawks fan, even I think 11 is a hair high for Branch, but I think he'll be a top 20 guy, maybe even top 15. If he's your second WR, fear not; if he's your third, rejoice.

The thing I've been trying to think about while projecting Branch's numbers are the system he's in. Holmgren's got a pretty good history with his No. 1 receiver, or the X receiver in his offense. There's ol' Sterling Sharpe putting up three straight fantastic seasons as soon as Holmgren came to Green Bay (1992: 108-1461-13; 1993: 112-1274-11; 1994: 94-1119-18). Then came along Antonio Freeman (1996: 56-933-9; 1997: 81-1243-12; 1998: 84-1424-14), whose numbers dropped as soon as Mike left GB for SEA.

Then he came to Seattle and started slowly with a young Kitna; the offense was mostly relying on Ricky Watters and their leading receiver was Sean Dawkins with his mediocre numbers. But then things started taking off again ... D-Jax had a nice little run there, and if he could consistently hang on to the ball like an NFL receiver should, his numbers could have been fantastic (I certainly don't know this as fact, but he had to have dropped at least 7 touchdowns in his seven seasons with the Hawks). Don't forget the scintillating sophomore season Koren Robinson had (78-1240-5) -- admittedly, to shoot holes in my own theory, I'm not positive he was playing the X-role in Holmgren's offense all season, but at least while D-Jax missed three games.

I think Deion's next in line. The year to get adjusted to the offense was perfect. They didn't trade D-Jax to a divisional rival for no reason: Branch is ready to step up and be a well-rounded, top-flight receiver that serves as a serious weapon. If history repeats itself, D-Jax was Holmgren's Sterling Sharpe in Seattle (please don't read that as "Jackson's as good as Sharpe") and hopefully Branch will be the next Antonio Freeman.

I waited on WRs bigtime .... drafted DBranch (first WR) in the 4th. Not sure how I feel about it but to me WRs are so freaking unpredictable (score a TD one week, take 2 weeks off). I have GJennings and KCurtis as backups so basically all my WRs are WR2s and WR3s but I chose to draft that way. It was a weird draft (4 QBs in the 1st round). Plus 2nd round on started with team 10 (no back to backs after round 2). So I went Gates in 3rd.

Hass HAS to throw to somebody ....

Branch hasn't had a 1000 yard season due to spending his first few years with the Patriots. Brady spreads the ball way too much for his WRs to put up great numbers. Then he came to the Seahawks and was behind Darrell Jackson with Bobby Engram stealing some of his looks. Deion Branch is now the #1 and we will finally see what kind of #'s he can put up.

I think you will end up starting Kevin Curtis over someone. I think Curtis has a really good chance to put up nice numbers. He could put up the numbers Stallworth put up in limited action, except he will produce all year. I think Curtis will end up being the No. 1 WR out of Philly, as Reggie Brown will be good, but not great.

You know McNabb loves to throw the deep ball, and Curtis will be getting behind secondary's very often. The guy is very talented, just never got much of a chance to shine. On the rare occasion that Curtis did get to start in St. Louis, he was very productive. I look for the same good production here, except more. He doesn't have as many people to compete with, so I expect good, consistent results.

Kevin Curtis is on my short list on WRs who will step up big time this year. Vincent Jackson, Santonio Holmes, and Kevin Curtis all are in the right spot and the right time. They all will flirt with Top 10 production this year.
