I think the gay community needs more support from the Republican Party and I would be a voice in the Republican Party to foster anti-discrimination efforts.

And while he's doing a wonderful job of summarizing all the obstacles facing our country/leaders today, he has not provided me with one possible solution for anything.

I feel better and smarter after reading all his wonderful prose and anecdotes. But I still don't have an answer to health-care, energy, social-security, or terrorism.

 

To me, Obama is the anti-George Bush.

Bush is all policy and action with very little charisma, rhetoric, or inspiration.

Obama is all rhetoric, charisma, and inspiration, with no policy, action, or direction.

 

Neither is acceptable for a President but my fear is that we, the voters, will make the same mistake that a guy makes after breaking up with miss Wrong... you automatically overcompensate and go after the exact opposite (which isn't the answer either).

I like Obama's personal style - I think he's genuine and a leader - but I don't know enough about his policies to know if I'd support him yet. However ... I think your assessment of Obama fits Bush to a T.

 

IMO the President is all rhetoric but his policies are either failed or non-existant. Does anybody still think George Bush has a plan for Iraq? He talks about changing strategies and the "surge" but at this point I think the White House has no clue what they want to do, other than running out the clock.

 

This is just one of many examples of Bush's total incompetence. The White House talks about personal accountability but really we have a bunch of clowns at the top.

 

Of course I'll have to learn about where all the candidates stand on policy issues, but #1 on my list of qualities for our next President is just basic competence. I think what we're seeing now is what happens when you put a very ordinary man in charge of the country during very extraordinary times. Bush just isn't smart enough, he's lazy and disinterested, he's surrounded by cronies and yes men, and does not have the spine to hold the people around him to any standards.

that's the comparison I'm making with Obama.

Obama sounds great... talks great... inspires with his oratory... but is maybe trying to be all things-for-all-people and won't make headway in any direction whatsoever.

Bush, on the other hand, is a terrible speaker... inspires few with his oratory... but has smashed forward in whatever direction he's wanted.

Actually I do disagree with this. I think Bush's speechwriters have a clear direction they want voters to think Bush wants to go in. I just don't think the President actually has a clue. Iraq is just the clearest example - based on what we've seen the past five years I don't think Bush has a focking clue what the goal is or how to achieve it there.

 

Oh well, agree to disagree. I just think think Bush's image as a "resolute" leader is an act, like his Texor accent and good ole boy demeanor.

I am not declaring Romney is my choise for the President. I just thought the guy might have some potential after having the courage to say that about Rev. Al.

 

I loth the flip-flop big time. I have not seen what all he has flip-flopped on yet. It is a little early yet. If he did flip-flop a bunch and on key issues, then I won't support him at all, as far as the Republicans go.
