Saint Elistan 106 Posted September 10, 2010 Depending on how these threads fair over the first couple of games, I'll be creating one for each 49er game this year as a compliment to the 49er Discussion Thread. Previews/Box Scores: ESPN - Yahoo Sports - CBS - NFL.COM - NFL Playbook 49ers (0-0) at Seahawks (0-0) Time: 1:15 p.m. (Pacific) Television: Fox (Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan, Chris Myers) Favorite (over/under): 49ers by 3 (37) Series: Seahawks lead 12-10 Last meeting: Alex Smith threw for a career-high 310 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn't enough, as the Seahawks pulled out a 20-17 overtime victory at Qwest Field. Seattle Injury Report (Week 1) Raheem Brock (DE) Back - Probable Anthony McCoy (TE) Ankle - Probable Chester Pitts (G) Knee - Questionable Russell Okung (T) Ankle - Out [EDIT] Seahawks Inactives: CB N.Ness, CB K.Cox, G E.Dietrich-Smith, OL C.Pitts, R.Okung, WR G.Tate, TE A.McCoy, DE E.J. Wilson. 49ers Injury Report (Week 1) William James (CB) Ankle - Doubtful Diyral Briggs (LB) Concussion - Probable Ahmad Brooks (LB) Lacerated Kidney - Out Eric Heitmann (OC) Fibula - Out Kyle Williams (WR) Toe - Out [EDIT] Official Inactives: Barry Sims(OT), Alex Boone(OT), Will James(CB), Kyle Williams(CB), Eric Heitmann(OC), Ahmad Brooks(LB), Tramaine Brock(CB) and Troy Smith(QB). Maiocco's Matchups to Watch (http://www.csnbayarea.com/09/10/10/img-srchttpcsnbayareacomcommonglobal_ima/landing_maiocco_v3.html?blockID=308015&feedID=2800) 49ers OLB Parys Haralson (98) vs. Seahawks LT Tyler Polumbus (78) Haralson's sack total dropped from eight in 2008 to five last season, but he still might be the team's top pass-rush threat. Haralson has been studying all of the Seahawks' options at left tackle, but Polumbus has been tabbed to make his first start at left tackle since his senior season at Colorado in 2007. Polumbus fills in for rookie Russell Okung, who has been ruled out with a knee injury. Haralson (6-0, 255) has a chance to have a big game. His quickness could give Polumbus (6-8, 300) all he can handle. 49ers PR Phillip Adams (35) vs. Seahawks ST Michael Robinson (26) Adams apparently won the job to open the regular season handling punts based on his performance in the 49ers' final two exhibition games. He had an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown. In all, he averaged 25.8 yards on six returns. Robinson figures to step right into the mix as one of Seattle's core special-teams players after he was among the 49ers' final cuts. Robinson was a captain for the 49ers the past two seasons. 49ers CB Nate Clements (22) vs. Seahawks WR Deon Butler (11) Clements starts at right cornerback. For the first time, he will be moving into the slot on passing downs. Butler (5-10, 182) will offer a big challenge for Clements with his quickness. Clements is best when he plays a physical style at the line of scrimmage, so he can't let Butler get a free release down the field. Butler, a second-year pro, had a strong exhibition season, leading the Seahawks with 15 receptions. FFToday Fantasy Projections by Eakin Prediction: San Francisco 27 Seahawks 17 Notable Seahawks Matt Hasselbeck: 220 yds/1 TD/1 INT Mike Williams: 45 yds/1 TD Deion Branch: 65 yds John Carlson: 55 yds Justin Forsett: 70 yds/25 rec Notable 49ers Alex Smith: 220 yds/2 TDs/1 INT Michael Crabtree: 60 yds/1 TD Vernon Davis: 65 yds/1 TD Josh Morgan: 40 yds Frank Gore: 115 yds rushing/20 yds rec/1 TD I recommend reading Eakin's full Analysis of the game found here on FFToday. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 49ers / Seahawks games are always exciting to watch and can usually go either way. If you're looking at the gambling lines, I really like the 49ers -3 and the Over(37). Take a look at the last 16 games between these teams: SFO 17, SEA 20 (37) - SFO 23, @SEA 10 (33) - SFO 13, @SEA 34 (47) - SFO 33, SEA 30 (63) SFO 0, SEA 24 (24) - SFO 3, @SEA 23 (26) - SFO 24, SEA 14 (38) - SFO 20, @SEA 14 (34) SFO 3, SEA 41 (44) - SFO 25, @SEA 27 (52) - SFO 27, @SEA 42 (69) - SFO 0, SEA 34 (34) SFO 17, @SEA 24 (41) - SFO 19, SEA 20 (39) - SFO 31, @SEA 24 (55) - SFO 28, SEA 21 (49) One thing that's consistent is a high score and I think there's way to many question marks for the Seahawks to get within 3 in Week 1. Hopefully my Niners don't make me look like a jackass. Feel free to use this thread to discuss fantasy players relevant to this game or about the game itself. I'll be bumping it on game day. idiotec 31 Posted September 10, 2010 OK, I am a homer, but I don't think it will be close. The 49ers front 7 is great and will tear up Seattle's shaky O-Line. Hass won't have many chances to test our average secondary. The 49ers upgraded O-Line will create holes for Gore which will in turn open up the passing game for Smith and Co. WhiteWonder 2,681 Posted September 10, 2010 San Fran should win the game but I won't count Seattle out. Maybe Pete will come with an excellent gameplan that will take NFL teams a while to adjust to? but i still think Hass better say his prayers Saturday night. FlaHawker 24 Posted September 10, 2010 Give us the Seattle perspective. Tis' why I started the thread. Would love to here how the Seattle fans think this game will go, strengths, weaknesses, etc... Seattle fans will be lucky if they know the names of the five starting OL. I'm predicting a 4-6 win season. I don't think this game will be one of the 4-6. Frank Gore should have field day and and Alex Smith and the passing game should do just enough. The Seattle offense is a work in progress, a rough work in progress. The Seattle D? Who knows but I was not impressed with what I saw in the preseason out of Curry and if he doesn't play like a top 5 draft pick, it will be a long season. Earl Thomas will be good. He just makes plays; Chris Clemmons showed flashes of pass rush, Mebane is a stud, and with a healthy Tatupu and Trufant, the D might be ok, although Gus Bradley as D coordinator is not inspiring. SF should win, but any given Sunday, right?

the bosses 0 Posted September 10, 2010 I can't see any way for Seattle fans to be optimistic but there are some things you never know until the action actually starts. I think the defense has a chance to be improved ut hinges largely on the ability to get some kindo of a pass rush. while I don't think the 12th man will win this game (unless there was an actual 12th man on the field), I think they can disrupt the SF offense for a couple of drives. I also am putting the false start over/under at 3.5. Offesively for the Hawks, I fear they will have a similar time sustaining drives as they did last year. Who knows? This line hasn't been together for even a week's worth of practices and just got a new coach in the last week as well. SF 20 SEA
phillybear 366 Posted September 10, 2010 16-16 OT Tie. Last year, SF was simply not good enough to go into Seattle and come up with a win in the 2nd half of the season. Seattle, beat up, injured, horrible coaching, Seneca focking Wallace at QB, still beat the Niners to pull into a tie for 2nd place. Let me point out how embarrassing that must have been for Niner fans. And I don't see a lick of improvement in the SF Fagguts this year. I reiterate that no team in our division is good enough to win any more than 6 games this season. SF? I don't see anything more than a below .500 team led by a QB that has the swishy throwing motion of Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds, an Easter Island statue imbecile for a coach, a clumsy offensive line chock full of rookies that will need years of experience before they become mediocre. V Davis? Meh, we have out fastest LB covering him all game long. Crabtree? Trufant looks healthy. Seattle will win the turnover battle 8 to 6. This game will be horribly boring. I'd much rather pour fire ants into my eyes and glue my eye lids shut than watch this trajedy. This game can only end in one way: great disappointment for fans of both teams. Abandon all hope all ye who enter. I'd rather fish hook worms out of my assh0le than watch this steaming pile of pig sh!t.

The Tim Ruskell era has been blown to smithereens! Now let's see the team make strides and get better every week. That may not show on the scoreboard for awhile, but you never know. RicemanX 20 Posted September 10, 2010 If this was last season, niners secondary would give up 100+ yards to the Hawk's 3rd or 4th string WR...so Tate for 100 yds and a TD? Hehe, jkjk. Alex Smith WILL make a mistake or two and throw for 175 1 td 1 int. Seahawks WILL end up scoring 13 or 17 in a win or a loss. Pete Carroll WILL do a tricky play or two. The announcers WILL mention Singletary and his "intensity" about 10 times. IMO the main key of this game is if the Seahawks can stop the Niners running game. RicemanX 20 Posted September 10, 2010 And I don't see a lick of improvement in the SF Fagguts this year. How about an improved o line and healthy secondary? I love how you mention all the things that was wrong about Seahawks last season but failed to mention that the Niners gave the ball to their star player Frank Gore 9 times on the ground that day. Give Gore 11 more carries and I guarantee you the Niners win that game. ALSO, ETA: I WILL FIGHT YOU PHILLYBEAR, I WILL FIGHT YOU
worm 36 Posted September 10, 2010 I think they can disrupt the SF offense for a couple of drives. I also am putting the false start over/under at 3.5. With 2 rookies on SF's line, this could definitely have an effect. According to Barrows the team has been preparing for just that: Niners pumping out crowd noise during the morning walk-through. That's a first for me

That may not show on the scoreboard for awhile, but you never know. Sure, I guess I was thinking more about this game than the season and beyond. I agree for optimism coming out of the Ruskell era and hope to see some of it on the scoreboard sometime this year. I think that John and Pete are a combo that we can work with given a little patience. I think that Pete is a guy who it will be really easy to get behind if things start to go well but worry that he could equally as easy be another fall guy with everyone pointing to his lack of success (which really wasn't that lacking) in the NFL
Saint Elistan 106 Posted September 10, 2010 Added the 49ers Inactives since they've just announced them. Official Inactives: Barry Sims(OT), Alex Boone(OT), Will James(CB), Kyle Williams(CB), Eric Heitmann(OC), Ahmad Brooks(LB), Tramaine Brock(CB) and Troy Smith(QB). Phew...going in to the game with just two backups for all five OL positions - Snyder(T,G) and Wragge(C,G).

FlaHawker 24 Posted September 12, 2010 Prediction: Seattle's offense will fall apart at some point due to lack of talent/chemistry. The Seahawk D is terrible at getting off the field on 3rd down. They will be on the field for a long time which will enable Frank Gore to wear them down and take this game over. I think it will be close for a half but in the end SF will pull away with a 23-9 victory. Here's hoping it's a clean game with no injuries to either team!
