Vikings4ever 570 Posted March 22, 2006 If he can play RG, I wouldn't mind seeing the Vikes sign him to a 1 year contract.
swamp dog 0 Posted March 22, 2006 millen has probably already contacted him and booked a flight.
EndGame 1 Posted March 22, 2006 Damn. This one hurts. He was the last link to the Cowboys dynasty of the 90s. Rumor was that he was asked to restructure, but refused. He never really took to Parcells, and I don't think Parcells cared for him either.
cowboyz 2 Posted March 22, 2006 a very sad day for the cowboys. i hope he comes back to retire as a cowboy.
bammbamm 0 Posted March 22, 2006 Yes you sure your team wants him? they didnt re-sign their 28 year old guard. why would they want someone this long in the tooth?

yostevo 0 Posted March 22, 2006 millen has probably already contacted him and booked a flight. He probably faxed him pictures of coney dogs, Vernor's floats,Faygo soda pop and Sander's hot fudge sundaes in order to seal the deal. Gotta love the local grindage. Pack fan here. NO CHANCE this happens. Pack is in full rebuild and a 34 yr old guard is not an option. It makes sense as he would be a big help but TT is not going to spend .02 on anyone over 30. It makes sense as he would be a big help but TT is not going to spend .02 on anyone over 30. Pack is in full rebuild? That is pathetic. In one season we go from consecutive 10-6 seasons to 4-12 and there is an abundance of supposed "fans" willing to write the Packers off as an awful team needing to completely rebuild. The Packers are still a good team that suffered a lot of adversity last year. In this league any team can drastically change from year to year dependig on a lot of things. Realistically the Packers can be back in the playoffs with a few quick fixes. That is being completely objective. We lost a lot of games due to inconsistant play, injuries, and a makeshift o-line. So we get some players healed up, get a couple decent free agents, patch up the rest with the draft, and coach the team into playing to their potential. True...but I could see it help in the rebuilding. Like a young QB learning from a vet...Allen's presense could be huge (pun intended) to guys like Whitticker and Coston who they eventually want to lean on. Pokey55 0 Posted March 22, 2006 This disappoints me as a Cowboys fan. I know it's a business, I know he's getting kinda old, but he can still play, he's still one of the better guards in the league, he's a future HOFer and the last link to our SB days. Bah! Sometimes it's just so depressing as a fan to get invested in these guys and have this almost always be the outcome. I hope he resigns, but doubt that so I hope Larry goes someplace where he's not involved in rebuilding, but somewhere with a legit shot at winning it all. I think Larry will view this as a slap in the face and be extremely motivated next year.
Guest stevejohnson Posted March 22, 2006 Hey Jeff Lurie, are you listening? The Eagles really need O-Line help and even at his age, Allen is better then what you have! The Eagles need to make an offer to this guy ASAP!
EAwer 1 Posted March 22, 2006 I would love to see him as a Lion, and tutor a mid round round draft pick for a year or two.

I'd really, really like to belive this, but let's face reality here. This team is more than patching a few holes away from being competitive. Take a look at the holes on defense. We have one linebacker worth a damn. We have a DE who can't play every down sucking up big money. We have one legit NFL corner. Offensively, we have one good WR and one who doesn't want to be on the team. An aging and slipping TE. A high mileage running back coming off injury and an undrafted FA backing him up. Not too mention the need for two guards and a banged up starting center. Like it or not, the Packers are in rebuilding mode.
Guest Black Label Society Posted March 22, 2006 Good god man....if the Vikes signed him, could you imagine our line? I don't care that he's 34....he still MAN Handles every guy in front of him. McKinnie, Hutchinson, Birk, Allen and Marcus Johnson. Yikes.
Deadpool 0 Posted March 22, 2006 The TO cancer is spreading.Who will be the next victim? I see dead people Did the Short Bus forget to pick you up today? Seriously, The Cowboys have had some issues with Allen the last few years. Parcells was not high on him because of his work ethic. He is a 34 year old llineman, who yes is still decent, but not near as good as he used to be. Whoever aquires him will probably pull a Snyder and over-spend for him. He will be an upgrade for what most teams have, but I seriously doubt anyone should expect Allen to play more than 1 or 2 seasons. Lets all be realistic here people. So to sum up...................... Future Hall of Famer? No doubt about it! Released because of Owens? Put down that crack pipe. Going to be signed by a team that desperately needs help on the O-line? Absolutely! Odds of Allen laughing all the way to the bank? He's already looking at houses in Malibu Chance of 2006 or 2007 being his last year? Let's put it this way, go ahead and plan on being at his HOF induction ceremony in 5 years. Deadpool 0 Posted March 22, 2006 SO he is retiring this year? No, I meant after this upcoming season. Sorry for the confusion.
Cruzer 1,996 Posted March 22, 2006 Very sad to see him go, but I hardly think this hurts us as many think. At the price he was costing, he was way not worth it. I told you last week that there was no way the Boys were going to have Flozell's gazillion dollars, Kosier's $15 mil, Gurode's $1.25 mil and Rivera's $20 mil on the books with Allen's contract. It was clear as day he was history. Hope he does come back and ceremoniously retires as a Cowboys.

yostevo 0 Posted March 22, 2006 LIONS CHASING ALLEN We're told that the Detroit Lions are aggressively pursuing free-agent offensive lineman Larry Allen. The Cowboys cut the ten-time Pro Bowler on Tuesday. Allen's release creates $3.4 million in cap space for the Cowboys. He had been a no-show for the first two days of the team's offseason conditioning program. There's been talk that Allen possibly will retire. But with at least one team looking to add his phenomenal strength to a blocking scheme that has been mediocre at best over the past few years, he might be persuaded to stick around. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm
