Stanley Cup Champion

Recommended Posts

NY Rangers fan here.

I did NOT want to play BUF...they are a good, balanced team and they always play the NYR tough.

Of course, I REALLY didn't want to play NJ...Brodeur is the premiere goalie in the playoffs IMO (and in the palyoffs a hot goalie is all the difference.)

Frankly, I wanted to play PHI...I fear them much less than BUF or NJ and we played them well in PHI this year.

as a Flyers fan I wanted the Rangers. they've been falling apart. much rather play them than Buffalo. but i'd rather play Buffalo than the Devils so I'm not complaining. Flyers in 6.

People say that, but I don't buy it.

They got hit w/some injuruies and rested some players.

King Henry played for the 1st time in almost 2 weeks last night.

Kasper finally back.

Rucchin had been resting a bad foot.

Ruchinsky still out (prob till mid-1st round) w/a broken finger.

Plus a couple of other small injuries.

Once the NYR secured a playoff spot they rested some of these guys who would have been playing if it was a playoff game.

IMO hockey is the pro sport where it is easiest to get hot in the playoffs, no matter how cold you were over the last week of the season.

$100 seriously

I would take you up on that but we both know that I'll be waiting for a long time to collect that money when the Flyers win in 5-6 games.....

That may be true but I was still rooting for the Rangers to get matched up vs the Flyers in round 1. But more so for the fact that I was hoping to avoid the Devils. The Devils are red-hot and have Brodeur. I don't think the Rangers are getting past them.

Devils have won 10 straight. The Rangers will have to get hot in a hurry to deal with the Devils. 6 games tops.

When the playoffs start everyone has the same record.

I've seen it year after year in the playoffs. A team backs into the playoffs , they get a lucky bounce, their goalie gets hot...BING, BANG, BOOM...upset city, baby.

ETA: The NHL has the hardest playoffs to handicap. The NHL playoffs have the greatest chance of a low seed going all the way than any other major pro sport.

I would like it to be my Rangers, but even if this team was healthy, I do not think they can win.

I think it will be Ottawa vs Detroit in the finals.

Alright, enough of the my myopia. Here's your chance to stand behind your predictions.

fantasybrackets.com

Free Playoff Prediction Site.

I created a group called 'fftoday' with a password of 'fftoday'.

Once the games start Friday, you will be able to see everyone else's picks.

You can also sign up for the NBA playoffs, which they award a $100 Gift Certificate to the winner. I will add a fftoday group for that as well.

Stache - Biron and Miller have been stellar, but this is a different season. thus a whole new ballgame. That said, I cautiosly have them making the Conf Finals.....atleast at this point.

FYI - NBA group = 'fftoday2' with a password of 'fftoday2'

In no particular order:

It's difficult to climb aboard the Rangers bandwagon after they pissed away the Atlantic Division crown, have dropped 5 straight contests and keep getting off to slow starts every game. Although they split the regular season series with the Devils; New Jersey is the hottest team in the league and should dispatch New York without the series going the distance. I like New Jersey to represent the Eastern Conference.

Ottawa has outscored Tampa Bay 16-6 in a four game sweep so far this season; no defense of the title for the Lightning. Carolina did the same thing to the Canadians 25-9; so Montreal doesn't pose much of a threat. Although I'd be a millionaire if prior matchups were the definitive barometer of how an NHL series plays out; it's difficult to predict that teams who'd been being so thoroughly dominated so far during the 2005-2006 season will sack up for the playoffs. No upsets so far in the first round.

I don't have the slightest clue how the Sabres/Flyers series will turn out. But the teams played each other tight this year and Buffalo has had some rotten post-seasons; so Philadelphia winning the series wouldn't be a huge upset. I don't see the Flyers as healthy enough to have a long playoff run.

Detroit has a few age, team speed, health and goaltending issues; but they're still the best team in the league. With home ice advantage, plenty of playoff experience and hungry after several uninspired post-season efforts; the Red Wings appear to be the team to beat.

The Avs aren't good enough on the road for an extended playoff run, the Ducks might be a year away, the Sharks might surprise some people and the rest of the conference doesn't appear poised to take out Detroit.

if the refs call it like the regular season, there is no way the flyers can skate with the sabres.

Now THAT is the big question. The NHL refs seem to have put away the whistle latlely compared to early in the season, so I bet they let them play the body more.

Also, with a healthy Kasparaitis I'd have prefered a 1st round matchup with the Flyers, but he is hurt again so I am glad the Rangers got the Devils. Despite the fact that they have won 3 cups in the past decade, the Devils and their fans have a very real inferiority complex when it comes to the Rangers.

This series will garner more media attention in NY than the any of the last 3 Devil cup runs. Plus, the Devils had only sold 35% of their playoff tickets for their 1st and 2nd games in round 1 as of 9PM last night. Once the Rangers Devils matchup was solidified, the remainder sold out by 9 this morning, with Ranger fans scoffing up the bulk of them.

Rangers in SEVEN!
