Watched my stepdad beat a dog half to death

Recommended Posts

Went home with my 4 year old to visit my parents this past weekend. They live out in the country and have 5 dogs that have either wandered in as strays or have been found half dead after being abandoned. Up until this past weekend, these dogs have been nothing but great around people.

One of these dogs has taken over a golf cart as his own personal crib. If any of the other dogs get near it, he'll growl at them. So I'm packing up the truck to come home on Sunday and getting ready to strap my daughter into the car seat. My daughter says, "Wait, I have to say goodbye to the doggies". She makes her rounds, going up to each dog to say goodbye. She goes up to the last dog, that's sitting in the golf cart, and that focking dog snapped. It's a miracle that my daughter didn't get hurt because that dog was out for blood.

My stepdad hears the dog growling, my daughter crying and me yelling and he comes sprinting out of the door that leads into the garage. My daughter is balled up on the floorboard of the golf cart and I'm throwing straight rights to the dog's face. He body checks me half way across the garage, grabs the dog by the cheeks and ears and proceeds to slam him up against the wall a few times. So now the dog's growling and snapping at him. Stepdad walks over to a shelf and puts on a pair of leather gloves and grabs the rake. He chases this dog around the vehicles while I'm checking my daughter for any injuries (there were none luckily).

Dog makes a fatal mistake by going back into the garage and back into the golf cart. Now he's cornered. He beat that dog so badly I had to take my daughter into the house so she couldn't see it. As we're leaving, stepdad says, "Well, at least she got to say goodbye to him because that's the last time anyone will see him".

The one slightly humorous part of the whole deal was the reaction of the other dogs. They all ran over to one spot in the yard and sat down beside each other in a perfect row with a  look on their faces.

Nothing is funnier then little children being attacked by dogs and animal cruelty <_<

Why share that with the board?

I was thinking of you when we were beating the dog.

sounds like the same mentality of my FIL. They have one of those dogs you just never know about. He's a great dog and all, but he's got somethign wrong with him in the head and you get the feeling one of these days hes gonna snap. And I'm sure the FIL will make sure that's his last day he ever gets the chance to go psycho on anyone

Every time I read one of your threads, I hear Dueling Banjos from Deliverance in my head.

Great example for your kid. What do you think is gonna leave a greater lasting impression on her? A dog protecting it's territory, or her Dad and Step-Grandpa beating the hell out of and abusing an animal?

I guarantee your kid is traumatized from seeing both, the difference is that you and your stepdad had a choice.

Nice!

What? I don't even know who you are (handle or otherwise). Yeah, you and your step dad seem like really classy guys. If he is beating an animal like that, what do you think he does to you mom when she gets out of line?

sounds like shovel was just trying to protect his kid. The step-dad might have went a tad overboard, maybe just waiting until the next day to take the dog to the vet and have it put to sleep might have been a better option. But just like my FIL, I'm sure the mentality is that a person's well-being is ten times more important than the dog's life.

Oh yeah, you've got it all under control don't you? You see a snarling animal standing over top of your daughter/granddaughter and tell me how you react. "C'mon boy, calm down now. Got a treat for you.".

Only a focking retard would make that comparison. Conversation over.

also, just last month a kid around this area was killed by a dog that was owned by the family. Bad sh!t can happen when it comes to kids and dogs, and you have to take some steps to ensure the child's well-being. And just because a dog has been "nice" its entire life doesnt mean it one day isn't going to snap, like this dog did.

No, you hit the dog until everyone is safe, then if the dog is a problem, take it to the vet to have it put to sleep. What you don't do is wait for the dog to go back to laying down and then sneak attack and beat it half to death in front of a small child!

You and your stepdad are sickos! Good luck with that!

90% of serial killers start by hurting/killing ANIMIALS! Look it up if you would like! What's a matter, got you thinking? Better call Mom to make sure she is OK! Who knows what might happen if she burns the breakfast toast or other wise gets out of line!

You know the dog is territorial about the golf cart, and yet you let your 4-year-old daughter wander over there to say bye-bye.

Dynamite fathering.

You protecting your kid is one thing, what you and your stepdad did to that dog is another. Once your kid was safe it was over. If your stepdad wanted to deal with that dog, he should have waited until you left then put a bullet in it's head or taken it the pound or something. Ten bucks says your kid never gets over seeing what your stepdad did to that animal.

I agree that that was a terrible way to handle the situation in front of a child. You protect the child, tend to the child, remove the child from the situation, then put the dog down. And if you know the dog is territorial about it's golf cart, you don't let your kid go over to it in the golf cart, end of story.

Not that it matters to you, but it was after the fact that my stepdad told me about the dog protecting that cart. Something along the lines of "I would have mentioned it if he'd ever had any issues with your nephews".

This is actually kinda funny, I can picture the child all scared while shovelheadt is sparring with a dog. :bench:

:bench: methinks FIL and shovel's overreaction were a result of their own guilt about:

1. having an unstable, violent animal

2. keeping said animal unrestrained

3. allowing 4 yo daughter near said animal

It amazes me how judgemental people here can be :bench:

No big deal really. Just jumping on the pile for the hell of it.

Maybe for the stepdad, but I knew nothing about this animal other than that he's been fine for the 5-6 years he's been around.

Call me judgemental, but how big of a Hillbilly does one have to be to do this?

I feel sorry for your poor kid. Doubt she will be getting much :ninja: after seeing you and you sick stepdad in action!

Sad all around. Again, why in the hell would you bring something like this to a message board? You need to bring it to a licenced therapist. Seriously.

What kind of golf cart is it?

Not the kind that holds clubs. It's kind of like a gator tractor, where it has a small bed behind the seats.

Not that it matters to you, superdad, but I wouldn't let my little kids wander up to any strange dogs, particularly ones that are neglected, abandoned and possibly abused strays, and touch them.

And if my kid did walk up to some dog that started growling and snapping, I'd calmly remove my kid from the situation rather than get a big erection and go William Wallace on some poor, dumb animal.

I would be willing to bet that all the participants regret the actions that they took.

That being said, one shouldn't have to defend the actions they take, no matter how seemingly overreactionary, when they feel that a loved one was is jeopardy.

He said the beating took place WELL AFTER the kid was in danger. Just the fact that he would take the time to post this kind of stuff says enough!

Sick SOB!

I'll address each one of your statements individually.

- Again, Mr. Board Cheerleader, it wasn't a strange dog. He's been at my parents house for nearly six years. Also, my daughter has interacted with this dog hundreds of times with no issues.

- And while you were calmly trying to remove your kid from the situation, the dog would be calmly ripping him/her to shreads. Maybe my stepdad went overboard, but I sure as hell didn't.

The FIL scares me more than the dog.

I mean, it's enough that shovelheadt pulled the dog's sweater up over his head and started pummelling... but FIL actually bolts out of the house, checks shovelheadt headlong into the boards and just brutalizes poor, innocent foo-foo dog. Very disappointing set of circumstances.

I appreciate your comments, but I don't regret it. The 2-3 punches I threw at the dog was when he was standing over the top of my daughter. My stepdad may regret freaking out though.

You were throwing punches at a dog while your daughter was curled up in a ball, Rocky BalHillbilly.

My grandma once said, you could judge a persons character, on how they treated animals. I think she was prolly right.
