*** Clash's Top 100 + Fantasy Players for 2006 ***

Recommended Posts

friends, romans, forearm patrons....lend me your reading skills...my 1st rough draft of the fantasy year...Christmas in May

i have ranked ( subject to change as early as when you are perusing this ) the top 21 qbs, top 40 running backs, top 12 tight ends, and top 40 wrs and separated them into tiers...i added a little touch of commentary as well.....i like to rank my projections within a week of completion of the nfl draft....i would appreciate any feedback you boys have...let's turn this into a productive thread about the 2006 fantasy season..i listed my top players for each position and then followed up with commentary after the rankings were listed

this will be a new tradition for me each year here on fftoday after the nfl draft... <_<

p.s the reason is have yet to trank the last 11 qbs is due to the turmoil surrounding the respective position with each club...i'll update it with as each situation is resolved heading into and during camp

p.s.s. no kicker or defense rankings at this time

Commentary- Quarterbacks

as for the rest of The quarterbacks....i really can't rank them efficiently until i see how the rest of the offseason and camp plays into effect...but i will and i will give you my estimated projections for starting roles on opening day 2006 for the rest of the teams

miami- harrington ( i am having serious doubts that culpepper will play much or if it all this year- that's a 2-year minum injury he suffered..regardless i think his running skils will likely never be the same again)

cleveland- frye

detroit- kitna

san fran- a smith

jets- pennington

buffalo- losman

san diego- rivers

vikings- b johnson

chicago- grossman

tampa bay- simms

tennessee- volek

as for the ones ranked....i think p manning is again the man to beat...

i look for eli to take a big jump in his 3rd year...

i don't know how he'll do it but mcnabb will again finish in the top 5 i expect..they'll be behind often and have to throw the ball.....

i think vick's receivers ( in particular jenkins and roddy white improve and the passing offense scores more this year combined with vicks rushing yards and tds )

bilger drops with linehan and an aging isaac bruce

TO jumps bledsoe's value i think he has more passing tds as well because of rushing red zone woes with the two backs

pitt is building their offense around roeth and i think he makes a big jump this year as well with no bettis around

palmer may miss the 1st 4 games or so but will still finish top 12...he's the next ( if not already great ) qb in the league

a brooks rebounds with moss

brees now has a much better receiving core than what he had in SD

i love warner and his offense but i just don't think he plays in enough games to stay top 10...if they get eliminated from the playoffs fairly early look for matt lionheart late in the season

Commentary- Running Backs

the big 3 is commom knowledge...i do feel shaun will not repeat with no hutchinson and may even drop out of the top 5 as hasselbeck progresses

edge running behind that offensive line slips to 9 and may even fall lower as the offseason advances

jama lewis will quietly rebound and move back to 10 with the help of mcnair..they still have a very good run blocking line

ronnie brown is shaping up to me as the mcgahee of last year...lots of hype but won't finish in the top 10

i still think tjones and dunn have nice years

dillon will retain the starting role for one last year but expect to see maroney and in sone goal line sets with dillon

bell and c taylor have huge potential as sleepers

jones is low because that organization is just a train wreck

bush has the best chance to crack the top 10 of the rooks and i think he gets the lionshare of carries this year....however i do expect him to play this year and vulture some tds

brown/green/martin/taylor are low to me because of durability issues/age....although green may not be cleared until fall camp he has the best chance to regain top form of the older guys

lendale white is another big sleeper to me that can be had late.....

Commentary- Tight Ends

gates is the best of the best and will be rivers' best friend this season

cooley is huge again to me this year...runs great routes gets open and has a nose for the goal line...if he can supplant mike sellers for looks in the red zone he could finish #1....he's that good

i love ben watson this year as a big red zone presence with no givins...i know ne tight ends don't catch a lot of passes but i think this guy can get 50-60 this year

lj smith will be a more featured player for the eagles

witten drops to me with TO and the fact that parcells has never had a real stud TE outside of bavaro catching a lot of passes

Commentary- Wide Receivers

no way do the panthers have the the top fantasy wr for 3 consecutive years...they have a great rb in williams who i think can outseat foster regardless of if foster can stay healthy...keyshawn will get many looks in the red zone...i think s smith can even slide down to the 7-10 range...however i have him at #3

johnson may start slow if palmer isn't available the 1st month...but he'll finish #1

TO is TO and will rebound to prove the world wrong

chambers breaks out this year into the top 10 again regardless of the qb

r williams will flourish under martz

boldin falls because of the presence of edge and fitz being better red zone threats

kubiak helps AJ big time this year

with the addition of more receivers i expect s moss to slip

joe horn rebounds in NO at the twilight of his career

galloway will probably be lucky to even finish where i have him

matt jones will replace jimmy smith..maybe not in numbers but will have many more tds than last season

glenn/burleson/moulds/keyshawn will be great value plays this year

sleepers not listed are drew bennett( especially with volek)roddy white, amani toomer, antonio bryant, isaac bruce/kevin curtis..one ore more of those guys will move in to the top 4o and soon

and i like chad jackson as the rookie prospect wr with the best chance to break out

Good info Clash.... but having Pennington on your QB list andNOT having Brunell is odd to me. Chad probably won't even be the starter, now that Ramsey is there, thats IMHO. I know MArk isn't a stud fantasy wise, but they have added offensive talent, so that was the main oddity to me.

I also assume this is a redraft type league wih Palmer being so low, I thing he will miss some quality time this season, so I agree with his low(er) ranking.

Bolden had better #'s when both him and Foitz were healthy - but you are within the "norm" of the ranking of him and Fitz, I personally will draft Bolden as his value is ALOT better.

and Having Cedric Benson so low is not being responsible to your followers. TJones has the hype of last season, but Benson will be the guy who gets the carries this year and may/will win the job in training camp.

all in all

not bad. I disagree with your qb rankings and some wr.

-marvin and holt are always 1st tier and I thought Bulger and Palmer should be higher.

Clash...nice list. Very tough to do in early May with so much uncertainty still out there.

QBs - agree with most. I'd have Trent Green a tier higher, but the rest look to be in the correct tier.

RBs - I have Edge at the tail end of tier 2, but still in the same relative position (8 or 9). I know you're an Auburn-hater and that shows with your view of Ronnie Brown. I see him having a big year with RW gone and place him at the head of the tier 3 class. Jamal Lewis is much lower IMO. I totally agree with you on Chester Taylor...ingredients are there for him to have a very nice year. All else looks solid

WRs - Very nice laydown. Tiering is pretty accurate as well. I bump Javon Walker up one tier, but the rest looks good.

TEs - Keep an eye on Ben Troupe. This guy could jump to a top 5 TE if he stays healthy. TN's WRs are marginal at best and Troupe could be huge this year now that he has a little experience. I know you get the insider scoop on Troupe, so keep us posted.

boldin falls because edge is there and fitz is a better red zone target? are you kidding me. boldin has one less catch, 11 less yards and 2 less tds despite missing two games. the prior year despite missing half the season had a smany rec as fitz and almost as many yds. the year before, his rookie year, he had 101 rec 1377 yds, and 8 tds.

fitz is a bad ass, but boldin is even more of a bad ass. horrible analysis.

palmer is the number 12 quarterback? this one at least is arguable. he may miss time, but he and the organization have said that he is expected to start game 1. until that changes (something other than speculation) he has to be top 5. He was the #1 fantasy QB last year.only thing that has changed is the injury. he isn't a RB, he is a pocket passer, he'll be fine.

RBs were spot on!

OK....so you take what is certain to again be a hot topic of debate...Fitzgerald vs. Boldin....and because Clash takes sides and cites a reason for the side he takes....that is horrible analysis???

Horrible analysis is finding a way to choose Michael Turner over LaDainian Tomlinson.....not making a choice between two players who by most accounts are of equal value.

nice job.. But watch out for Heath Miller, TE, Pitts. In for a HUGE year...

First of all, any ranking that lacks Kickers is useless... ; But, other than that, it's a nice list.

I'd likely make the following adjustments:

QB: Move Bulger to the bottom of Tier II, Vick to Tier IV, Bledsoe to Tier III & Warner to top of Tier V (I understand your reasoning in putting him in this tier, but he has so much more upside than your other Tier V QB's.

RB: I'd flip McAllister & Bush until we hear more from training camp.

TE: Assuming McNair goes to Baltimore, I'll move Heap to the top of Tier III

WR: I'd move Driver to the top of Tier III.

Good list clash, this is a good place to get started :(

pretty good...but i think anquan should be higher in the wide receiver list, and bulger i believe is a TD machine so he should be higher. Maybe bledsoe a little higher a couple spots...i like bledsoe better than plummer this year...

Ben Coates was a real stud for Parcells.

Vernon Davis should be on your TE list as well. Young QB, the departure of Lloyd, and the fact that SF will be playing from behind most games should bolster his #'s. They didn't draft him that high without the intent of making him a focal point of their offense.

afternoon boys....thanks for the feedback...

portis26....that was an error on my part...i have brunell ranked #21 behind mcnair and i agree he will definitely start the season....i do believe if things begin to go awry during the season jcampbell may get forced into action or if brunell gets hurt....i have bumped pennington off but i still think he is the starter if he is fully recovered regardless of ramsey

parkers99...i think deuce vultures some of bush's value this year and i believe the situation will be similar to the ricky williams/brown scenario of last season but bush will outproduce mcallister and provided he is healed mcallister will get traded 2007 offseason

whodat- i like miller as well and he may get bumped into my top 10 in the near future

yippie skippy- my bad you're right...i meant coates and not bavaro...bavaro put up decent #s but nothing like coates...however i don't think witten is nearly the receiver coates was and parcells is going to use a lot of 2 tight end sets to run the ball this year with jones/barber with his new draftee te filling dan campbell's role..i think witten is more hard pressed to match his totals from 2005

escobante...this is for a redraft league and my main league is more of a td league than yards/receptions...i think bolidn could likely end up with more yards and ctahces but fitz will score several more tds...that's why i have him higher

fumbleweed...we'll see about that-lol....hopefully i'll be granted the #1 spot again and i can take larry johnson

tiki barber's barber- what's up..you might be right about chambers...i will move him up if daunte can play most of the season..

p.s. i'll probably be updating these after the may camps

Nice, what about the rookies?

i have addai, maroney, williams, bush and white in for the top 40 running backs..no receivers or qbs......not likely to happen although leinart or vince young could end up cracking the top 30....rookie receivers are too difficult to project and often take a few seasons to make fantasy impacts ( as do qbs)....i don't see any mosses or boldin sitautions yet...i do think vern davis can be an impact player but i have no idea how the san fran situation is going to shake out yet

List like this should always include scoring specifications.

Example:

Drew Bledsoe was in my league (6 pts all TD's, 2 pts for int's, 1 pt for 25 passing yds) #8 last year for QB's. Here you have him below that, despite the addition of TO. Unloess that is how you feel, that really doesn't make sense (to me at least)... but it's hard to tell without you telling what scoring methods this is based on.

what's up Vols.....i will probably be coming up for the game this year to knoxville....we'll have to meet somewhere like o' charlie's on cumberland...you seem like a pretty classy vols' fan...unlike my dynasty league counterpart sigep316

i didn't drop ronnie because he is an auburn grad....i'm all business and logistics when ff is involved.... you think i am very fond of manning??? you see where i have him ranked  ...

i just wasn't impressed last year when brown was shouldering the load for miami...he never hit a 4.0 average in any of those games if i am not mistaken.. could have just been the rookie wall.. i do think he'll do okay this year.. but one factor to keep in mind is he has never been the sole featured back since his college level days at auburn

i like troupe as well...i just need to see how the qb situation shakes out...i think the nature of the game has changed and we'll see vince young a lot sooner this year than expected...i just don't think volek can stay healthy...

peace

let's just go standard style with....

6 points rushing or receiving tds

4 points for passing tds

1 point for 25 yards passing 10 yards rushing or receiving

but i actually based this primarily off my main league's system

6 points rushing, receiving, passing tds

1 point for 20 yards rushing or receiving

1 point for 50 yards passing

.25 for receptions

-2 points for fumbles or ints

i think i may be a little generous with bledsoe this year... because airing it out is not the parcells way...i think we'll see a more concentrated ground attack this year with many 2 te sets and more rushing scores...bledsoe is getting up there in qb age and has virtually no mobility making him a liability in the pocket and scrambling.. so he's more of a threat to get injured...but i think he'll throw for less yards and about the same amount of scores with no rushing scores ( he had 2 last season)...

regardless this is just my 1st rough draft and lots will change

I am surprised not even a mention of Koren Robinson. I know he didn't do much last season, but that was pretty much just a trial to make sure he had cleaned up his act. He has the talent to put up some numbers, and, as of right now, he is the #1 in Minny. I definitely think he will crack the top 40 somewhere between 30 and 40. Just a thought. Good work. I like the analysis.

i'm sure on my revision he will make the top 40...i'm still contemplating how i am dividing brad johnson's tds between robinson, taylor, williamson and " jump ball" marcus robinson.. wiggins and a few perhaps a couple from chester taylor...i think it will be fairly even spread right now hence the reason i haven't put in robsinson coupled with the fact i don't think the vikes will be very good on offense this year

Great analysis Clash.

I always appreciate your posts. We both seem to take the same methodical approach to our FF.

I have a few players ranked a little differently than you, but for the most part, we're on the same page.

Keep up the good work!!

Great List, as i read the feedback posts they hit on a few thoughts I myself have.

Bulger (the TD machine) should be a bit higher IMO

Bledsoe will air it out with TO as a result a bit higher

I agree that V. Davis should be on the list.

K. Rob I think could be a candidate for the comeback player of the year.

Thanks for taking the time to post, some very good info.

Love the list, I may not personally agree with every prediction, but it is REALLY nice to see someone (other than a 'so called ff experts') list on the top FF players.

Can't wait to see the adjustments in a couple months ;)

P.S. What no Jay Fielder in the top 21 !? j/k!

Nice list.

But Clash...you are bowing to the pressure of the bored on Brunell.

How does the 12th ranked QB (at least in my league) add Lloyd and Randel-El and take 9 steps backwards.

Because there is a LOT of risk with Brunell. Age, increased injury risk, Campbell lurking....

Good list. You definitely put a lot of time and thought into it. I like most of the list, but I disagree with Chambers being that high, though. And I'm a Chambers fan and owner. Unless Daunte is healthy this year, a huge IF, I don't see Chambers putting up the numbers he put up a year ago. Harrington couldn't do squat with the plethora of receivers he had in Detroit. Plus, Frerrotte had a very good season last year, and was made-to-order in Linehan's offense. He and Chambers clicked. And they let Linehan go. The loss of Linehan will be a HUGE for Miami this season.

I'm predicting that Tomlinson isn't nearly as productive as he has been.

The last few games if the season last year, he sucked ass, and that's a bad sign for this coming year.
