I can't help but admire someone who will stand by what they say because they view arguing as an art form.

 

and it is true that we don't treat illegals as criminals- we just send them back.

Trust me noone here is getting "worked up" over anything he says. We've all gotten over trying to have an intelligent conversation with the man. People look stuff up to see what the real answer, policy, comment, etc is or is not. That is what I mean when I say think. Perhaps research is a better term. People will ask for the link, so they're looking into issues...

 

My notion is that torrid really doesn't care what your postion is, it 's that you care enough to have an opinion at all. And that you'll defend your position if challenged.

I believe that torrid has a passion for politics. He clearly has a liberal slant to his views (understatement?) and I can appreciate that. I also appreciate the conservative slant to some folks on the other side (RP, fastfish).

 

However, the problem in this thread (and perhaps a few others) is that torrid was so focused on not admitting that he was wrong, that he changed his viewpoints to meet the backpedaling needs of his "argument". This is the very thing that torrid has complained has been the hypocrisy of his conservative counterparts in debate.

 

Getting people to think is a good thing, but it is probably more important to have those conversations lead to something rather than beating a dead-horse. That also goes for the people who are swung so far to the right so as to not see the forest for the trees.
