Saw my first fantasy football mag today

Recommended Posts

I think it was called Fantasy Football, something like that. Shaun Alexander is on the cover.

Its at Borders. Glanced at it, nothing special.

i hope the guys in my money league already bought it...I love showing up to my fraft with my own list that I print out while everyone else has these mags that are put out in june...And I've managed to win 2 of the 3 years we've played, woulda won all three if they'd told me they changed the scoring that year :ninja: ah-well, that's why I now know to go over all the scoring before the fraft

Was it Fantasy League Football or Fantasy Sports maybe? Those are usually the first two to hit the newsstands.

I enjoy buying one or two of the mags and bringing them to the draft, with my own list printed out as well. Then people think I base my rankings on th magazine's, when in fact they're totally unrelated.

However since 7 out of the 12 in my league DO base their rankings on those mags, it's great to have them so I know who they're more likely to pick when they're picking before or between my picks.

ADP is helpful, but sometimes those mags are 1-2 months out of date - so it's helpful to know what the competition is basing their rankings on.

 About time.

I know most people hate them. But I find'em great for while I'm on the can.

They are usually good to read for another's perspective, but I often find myself in complete disagreement with the rankings/evaluations.

I usually buy one or two just to read while I'm laying on the couch.. The info gets dated but sometimes some of the articles are good...

I, like many others, create my own cheat sheet, but I generally use the magazines during the draft for quick reviews of a team's strength of schedule, fantasy playoff opponents, that sort of thing. And while I agree that 90% of those mags are outdated the moment they're printed, it's always interesting to see others' opinions of players, coaches, offensive philosophies, etc.

I buy them all and take every one of them to my draft. I love to watch the vultures steal them from my table one by one while I have my own list in hand. It looks intimidating :shocking: . I just like to read what these guys say about the middle round guys I'm thinking about like chester taylor  , Matt jones, can't wait to see where they mock bush, Favre. Very fun to read!

Maybe I just play in an experienced league, but nobody at my draft even brings a magazine. Everybody has done their homework to the point that most have detailed stuff in a binder that they use or they have a laptop with all of their information on it.

I buy at leat 4 different FF magazines during the preseason. Yes they are good reading while on the crapper, but I buy them to get as many different perspectives as I can. I then base my own personal rankings on what I have gathered from the magazines, internet sites, and my own research.

Laptop + FF Today Cheatsheet Compiler & Draft Buddy = Great draft material.

I brought those last year, and everyone at my draft was like :ninja: .

Magazines are good for the pictures, although I buy a few every year. Everyone does.

I totally agree. I love it when those bonedicks show up with their old magazines and draft Tatum Bell in the second round.

I used to buy almost all of them, now I buy around 5 of them and read all the rest that show up at Barnes and Noble. (i read the other 7-10 while drinking coffee, thanks for the cafe  )

One think that you might find this year is that the Larger Parmacies and grocery stores might be short their annual variety. In Baseball the mags I found at those stores were much more limited in quantities and time on shelf. I am talking about about 50-75% less availibility and for a shorter time.

For your fix, id say one of the big book stores is your best bet but even B&N had fewer options this year in baseball. Perhaps the publishers or distributors are cutting back.

I refer to the scouting reprts all year, even the early ones. Many times they talk about style or speed or something that will help me "scout" my potential p/ups or trades.

Mags, mocks and websites are my scouting tools. The web is current the mags are historic and the mocks broaden my scope beyond my own rankings.

Level of influence:

Magazines

The net

Mocks

Broken down into important entities:

FFToday

CBSportsline

I only go to one other forum occasionally, FFToday completes me. CBS is where i go for live stats except an occasional trip to ESPN. No individual Mag is needed. I read them about 3 or so times so when i see a name i have a general view already that has also been influenced by all the current info. Since i tier and dont trully project i dont waste much time debating between 2 guys.

If you care im listening to some good reggae right now so im sorry about all the blab. It has been fun hanging out though. :P

I never use the fantasy books for anything but entertainment. I have bought many over the years but last year I bought the ESPN mag and thought it was enjoyable. Most mags just seem toi nfluence you away from your original thinking and end up making you pissed half way through the season.

I bought Pro Football Weeklys fantasy mag on friday, since my flight was delayed for an hour an a half so I had nothing to do...

I think its alright. Just has the usual stuff in it.

Its out? I bought Pro Football Weekly's NFL Preview issue. Have not seen the fantasy mag yet. I used to like the fantasy mag, but they made some changes to it since they partnered up with CBS Sportsline.

Hmm you may be right, it might just be the NFL Preview issue. I think it has Eli Manning on the cover? I just assumed it was a fantasy mag, since it had ratings and all that jibberish, but come to think of it, the mag did have previews of every team.

Yeah, the NFL Preview issue is out. The Fantasy issue is not.

no matter how experienced you are, you can always read more info. If anything these mags will let you know when everyone else is going to draft people in the first 3-4 rounds. I won my leauge last year because of this website. I love this site and will never give everyone my secret.

My favorite magazine would have to be Fanball. Not so much for their rankings, but it is well written and very entertaining. They usually come out with 2, one in July and one in august.

Last year they keeped call Michael Vick, Ron Mexico.

Honored to be here with you  ! I can't understand the nose up to ff mags. in June while we're here disecting the recent projections. Something hypocritical about that. :(

:(

i don't do projections either. anyone can just throw out numbers. 2 years ago would you have projected manning to throw for almost 50 tds, or more closely to 30? Then there's the classic "maddox will throw for 5000 yds". i look at situations and personel to figure out who i like most.

There are worse ways to spend a plane ride than leafing through a FF mag, even if the info is old ...
