if i had to pick the two teams that i DIDN'T want to see in the final, it was these two. the italians always played a style of defensive, counterattacking football that i just find boring. and i'm not a big fan of France ever since they took out Brazil in '98. that being said, France has played extremely well since the round of 16, zidane is quite the field general.

 

i'm just rooting for a solid, entertaining game that is decided by the players on the field, and not the officials.

Exactly why you'll never catch me bashing the French. That kind of favor goes a very long way with me.

 

I want to root for Italy because I like their style of play (when they think the game is worth playing, that is) and of course we can claim we tied the champ so we can't be the total suck. But I can't root against Zidane, I would love to see him win it again and cement his place in the soccer pantheon.

 

Besides, I gotta love him after this extra cool story about how a ghost convinced him to come out of retirement. I can see it all like it was real: some dead French football fan coming to him and saying, "You gotta come back! We can win if you play! Believe me I can see it all from up here, we can do it!"

i'm a little bit in a bind on who to root for. before the cup started i was rooting for teams in this order:

 

1. Portugal

2. USA

3. any team that beats brazil.

 

yes, france beat brazil, but they also beat portugal. hmmmmmm.

 

 

 

i guess im just rooting for a good game with no ref interference. but i know it wont be the case since the entire italian team and france's Henry dive all over the place.

 

 

and i will bet a bazillion dollars that if france does score a goal today, it will be because a Henry dive, either a penalty kick or a close free kick
