rebooters 1 Posted July 10, 2006 its round one and the picks have gone LJ and then LT2. its your turn and SA is the logical pick. is there anyone out there that would skip on SA for another? who else is worth a 3rd overall pick? i have a bad feeling this year that SA is gonna bust(or get hurt) but i still cant skip on him. one of my leagues is TD heavy so QB's do well, the only other guy i could justify taking is manning at this spot but i still wouldnt feel comfortable doing it. Polamalu43 0 Posted July 10, 2006 I really don't think SA has ever done anything in his career to give anyone an idea that he could bust. Sure his numbers will likely be down from last year's monster numbers. By all accounts, SA should be in the top 3.
JScott 20 Posted July 10, 2006 IMO 3rd is the best pick in this draft... you get which ever of the Big 3 drops to you. But if you don't want SA at that pick, do yourself a favor and trade down. I'm sure any owner from 4 to 12 would be happy to move up to take SA. And if you work it right you might get an extra pick and still get Manning.

Parja 0 Posted July 10, 2006 how many years has he gotten at least 15 TD's ? STRAIGHT ! That would be 5...also the number of seasons he's started more than 1 game.
HawgWild 0 Posted July 10, 2006 SA is a no brainer in that spot... He is a TD machine and you just can't pass that up.. JMHO

Sorry to bring this thread back from the past, but somehow I missed it last week. I'm not as high on Shaun this year either. I'm with devildog in that I'm high on Portis this year. I would see what kind of interest I could generate and try to move down a spot or two and try to pick up an extra pick and go get Manning or Portis. Even though I think Clinton has a real shot to put up better numbers than Shaun now that Saunders is in town, I can't ignore Shaun's TD consistency. If I couldn't move out of the #3 spot and LJ and LT were gone I'd probably have to go Shaun. Sometimes it's good to take a risk, but I don't think I could do it that early. lguero1 4 Posted July 17, 2006 if ur stuck @ #3 and you can't get value for the pick, u can't go wrong w/ SA.
Striker99 0 Posted July 17, 2006 Are you guys kidding me? This thread is pointless. If you are smart and know anything about football at all, you would take Shaun #1-#2. Madden curse my ass, thats bull for the former MVP. Watch him tear up the crappy NFC West and score another 28 TDs. I took him #1, because he is the safest pick. You know you are getting a quality back. Second of all, in the first round of most draft, Larry goes #1, and then Shaun at #2. It's dumb for him to be drafted #3. Few few, I'm outa breath. I won't know til I do projections, but right now I would feel pretty good if I took Portis 3rd ahead of Alexander. That offense will be different this year and Portis should be more involved and break off long runs more often. He could also have as many as 15 touchdowns. I agree the Madden curse idea is a stupid reason to avoid a player but there are other legitimate reasons to worry about SA this year. 1. He has had a heavy workload. From a FF Today article last year (maybe yr before), a RBs prior year use does affect the following year. They had a cutoff of 400 touches counting receptions as a half touch. At that point there was a much higher chance of having a down year the next year. SA had 439 & led the league. 2. He just signed a big contract. Where is the incentive? 3. Take a look at how superbowl losers tend to do the following year. That doesn't necessarily mean SA does bad but it can have an effect. I still think at 3 you need to take him or trade down because there is so much perceived value there.

I read some article that said that Manning's disappointing season was predictable in the sense that the year after Marino and Warner eclipsed 40 TDs, the followed up with a 20-something performance. But here's the jewel ... two years after throwing more than 40 TD's, Marino and Warner were in the upper 30's. Food for thought.... Personally, I don't think SA will be there at #3, but if he is, take him and be grateful. The alternatives aren't even close in Portis and Tiki ... SA is a TD machine. RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted July 17, 2006 I wouldn't skip him with the #1 pick, let alone the #3. Reasons being... He has less ???'s than LT (new QB), or LJ (new coach, OC). But more than that, he is durable. He has missed very little time... for an RB that is unheard of. I believe LT has missed two consecutive playoff or champhionship runs in FFL and LJ has been nicked up, and IMHO the Chiefs are going to run him into the ground. Sure losing Hutch is a tough loss, but Pork Chop is an adequate replacement... and I don't believe in curses

tampa_fan_01 0 Posted July 17, 2006 I'd definately take shaun at #3, I'd take him at 2 behind LT2. However, make sure and pickup Maurice Morris in the later rounds for insurance!

Ummm....when was LJ nicked up? The Chiefs running LJ into the ground is something to worry about in 2007. Yeah....LJ still #1. I personally prefer LT's upside to Shaun, but yeah he's been pretty useless in the playoffs lately. So, I'd make sure I handcuffed him in the late rounds with the Burner. It will be interesting to see how Shaun will fare having to play some actual run defenses this year like Denver and San Diego.

I know Johnson has been injured in his NFL career, but not sure when. 11/14/04 & 11/22/04 maybe? LJ's game log: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396164/gamelogs/2004 Blaylock game log: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235027/gamelogs/2004 I highly doubt that with Priest out, that Johnson would not have got any carries in those games that Blaylock played if he were healthy. Not to mention his injuries were sustained in a very limited workload.
SmartassBoiler 0 Posted July 17, 2006 Of course you can skip on SA. This is fantasy football...there's no rules on where you can and can't draft people. If you can trade down and don't, then that'd be stupid. However, if you can't trade out of your draft pick and think Portis or Barber is going to outperform SA for whatever reason, then pick who you think will do the best. Eriadoc 4 Posted July 17, 2006 Over the past five years, Shaun Alexander has scored 98 touchdowns. No one else in the history of the NFL has 98 TDs in a 5-year span, that I know of. I checked Rice, Emmitt, Faulk, and Jim Brown, for starters. Feel free to find someone - I'd like to know. Regardless, Alexander is the most prolific scorer this generation has seen, bar none. He's already 16th on the all-time list, with 100 TDs, and he's only played six years (really five). Sure, pass him up.

Super Cubs 154 Posted July 18, 2006 I see it as if you have 4 choices. 1. If you don't want him don't draft him. 2. Draft him and hope you wrong. 3. Try to trade down and pick up another pick. 4. Draft him and then trade so you know what your getting in return.

Eriadoc 4 Posted July 18, 2006 LJ is a sure #1, but LT2 and SA are both deserving of the #2 pick. I'd take SA at #1. I said the same last preseason and the one before. Unfortunately, I haven't had the top pick. LJ is the next greatest thing , I know, but SA just keeps posting the TDs. No one else has done what he has and he's still got a few good years left. esoitl 0 Posted July 18, 2006 just for fun i tried drafting other skill positions but RB high and since i got the #2 pick i ended up trading him for Manning i dont feel i got a fair return on SA based on his upside alone, i'm happy with the trade but if you're serious it is better to keep him maybe if Manning or whoever you're targetting slides to 8-10 range maybe but he went off the board at 4 so i had to pony up a bit more unless you really feel confident and get a blockbuster deal there shouldn't be a reason to pass on him or trade him
