VAN HALEN in 2007 **Update**

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if he was kidding around or if he went

Launch Radio Networks reports: Eddie Van Halen called in to Howard Stern's program on the Sirius Satellite Radio service on Friday (September 8), and he dropped a couple of major bombshells. After saying he was free of the cancer that led to tongue surgery a few years ago, the guitarist said that he and a partner had developed a treatment that cured his cancer, though he wouldn't reveal what it contains. As for how he got cancer in the first place, Van Halen denied it was from smoking, which he has never stopped, and he claimed the disease might have come from the metal guitar pick he used.

On a different topic, Van Halen made the slightly less amazing announcement that a reunion with original lead singer David Lee Roth isn't out of the question, though he didn't give any kind of timetable. Van Halen also talked about bassist Michael Anthony, and he seemed to go back and forth on whether they might work together again. Finally, Van Halen said his next project would be an album with him, his brother Alex, and his son Wolfgang, who he said had "dangerous" talent.

Coming out Wednesday (September 13) on DVD is an adult movie called "Sacred Sin" for which Van Halen wrote and recorded music. He claimed that instead of calling it porn, people should think of it as a legitimate film about "good and evil" that also has sex in it. Director Michael Ninn said it was shot at Van Halen's house in Los Angeles.

Didnt hear the interview but I found this on melodicrock.com

Highlights of the interview incude:

- Eddie calling Sammy and Mike's Other Half a 'cover band'.

- Stating that Van Halen is now himself, Alex and son Wolfgang. Anthony can 'do whatever he wants...'

- Stating that he was open to working / touring with David Lee Roth but any involvement with Michael Anthony seems all but impossible.

- Talked about his music in the adult film calling it a 'struggle between good and evil'.

- Smoking didn't cause him cancer, it was the use of metal picks, which he always had in his mouth.

- Next release will be a solo album or project with Alex and Wolfgang.

- Called Hagar 'Little Red Rocker' and 'Little Red Worm') and Michael Anthony 'Hot Sauce Sobileski'.

- Also talked of investing in a cancer center (something management told me in 2004...a substantial amount of money from all reports).

You know I love listening to his music, but damn, what an ass.

I lost track of all the Van Halen in-fighting awhile ago. Can somebody fill me in on the bad blood between EVH and Michael Anthony?

Thanks.

Mike joined Sammy's band and also gave a few less-than-flattering interviews (apparently breaking an unofficial code-of-silence).

Mikey is like the kid caught in the middle of a divorce. And he chose to stay with his fun dad rather than his psycho mom.

I'm an Eddie wh0re. I love his music, his playing, his ingenuity on the guitar. But damn if he and Prince shouldn;t go bowling.....they're both some wierd mutherfuckers.

But I have a philosophy on that.....I believe every persons brain is capable of so much.

But some (for a multitude of reasons) have an imbalance in there. Most are pretty much 50/50.

50% common sense....50% creativeness...

The artists, musicians, etc, seem to have 80% towards the artistic portion, but couldn;t add 2+2 or order a cheeseburger without pickles even though there are 800 people in line. Just get the damm CB Eddie you crazy fuckre.

Prince eats a pint of cake frosting for breakfast every day people. But he can WHALE on like 26 instruments.

Care to argue my point?!?!?

That's pretty much it. This is from an article in March:

On the new business arrangements within the band for the 2004 re-union:

"I was not going to just sit home and do nothing and that kind of upset the Van Halen brothers for whatever reason I can't understand myself. But basically when this whole reunion thing started Ed really didn't want me to be part of it. I don't know how he was going to call it a reunion (laughs) but I basically had to work out a deal with Irving Azoff's management company in order to be part of this thing. I kind of sucked it up a bit and I made less money but the way I looked at it was, if this possibly was the last tour that Van Halen would ever do then I'd be kicking myself because I wasn't a part of it and I want to be a part of it, even more so than the money so I sucked it all up and came on and did it. I did it for the fans."

I've stayed with that band through 3 singers, including Cherone. :) But if they bounce Mike, I'm done :dunno:

EVH is quite the pompous fart. Great guitar player, and only validates how incredibly full of himself he really is by claiming "he and a partner developed a cure for cancer..." :wall:

WORLD PEACE ACHIEVED, THANKS TO EDWARD VAN HALEN

Soon he'll have one of those faith healing television shows.

Self-centered cack. :wall:

VAN HALEN To Tour With DAVID LEE ROTH IN 2007?

MelodicRock.com is reporting that VAN HALEN will likely tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth as frontman. Citing "information from a highly placed source," the site states that negotiations are currently underway to reunite VAN HALEN with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in America and possibly other territories.

It is not presently clear if VAN HALEN's upcoming touring plans will include bassist Michael Anthony, who has apparently had a falling out with guitarist Eddie Van Halen. In a recent appearance on "The Howard Stern Show", Eddie hinted that the bassist slot would be filled by his son Wolfgang, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.

VAN HALEN last toured in 2004 with Sammy Hagar, but the tour ended on a sour note and Hagar has not talked to Eddie Van Halen since.

Last chance to cash in? :o

Van Halen without Roth I could always live with, (even Cherone  )

Van Halen without Mike, not a chance

That would suck too one of my regrets from the 80's is not seeing Van Halen live with Roth as lead singer. But I'm not interested in seeing Ed's kid play bass & I guarantee you that IF this happens, that is the plan.

I drank the red kool aid for that band for over 20 years, I'm almost over it...

Tortured Genius....EVH is one, and a focked up one at that.

This band ceased to exist for me when Sammy joined..and any attempt to rekindle the original magic would just add them to the stack of pathetic comebacks...Somebody said "Fair Warning"..Lord strike that poor boy down

David Lee Roth has officially returned as the singer for VAN HALEN and will join the rest of the band on a North American tour this summer. The 40-date trek will mark the first time since 1984 that original VH frontman Roth will perform with Eddie and Alex Van Halen along with new bassist, Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie's son). According to a press release issued today (Feb. 2) by Janie Liszewski from High Profile Media, "VAN HALEN fans can look forward to legendary high intensity performances, featuring a setlist of the most iconic hits ever produced by America's premiere rock band."

Eddie Van Halen said in a statement, "I am very excited to get back to the core of what made VAN HALEN."

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on January 31, Rhino Records has set a March 13 release date for VAN HALEN's "Best Of (1978-1984)", the first single-disc compilation exclusively spotlighting 1978-1984, the group's original David Lee Roth era. The album, which coincides with VAN HALEN's March 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, contains over an hour of remastered classics from the albums "Van Halen", "Van Halen II", "Women And Children First", "Fair Warning", "Diver Down", and "1984". Highlights include "Runnin' With The Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", and "And The Cradle Rock". Also featured are "Everybody Wants Some", "So This Is Love" and "Oh, Pretty Woman". The CD booklet will contain rarely seen photos and liner notes.

According to MelodicRock.com, VAN HALEN — featuring David Lee Roth on vocals — will likely play two dates in Las Vegas at The Pearl at The Palms Casino on April 27-28 before kicking off a full North American tour sometime late spring/early summer.

Was a HUGE VH fan growing up. I actually like Sammy taking Roth's place. Roth was a egomaniacal douche.

But the past 20 years of focking drama-queen bullshiit has pretty much soured me. Krist, it's like a focking sorority on a heavy flow day with them. - And it seems like EVH (much as I hate to say it) is in the middle of all of it.

I can even forgive wanting your kid to be in the band. But there's just no reason for all the back-biting and bickering.

They were cool back in the day, but if I never heard another word from them, I'd be just fine.

David Lee Roth is quite possibly the greatest front man ever.

I would definitely go to a show if DLR fronted the band again.

But how much of what made him great is still possible at his age?

Any night of this tour has the chance to be a great show or a complete train wreck onstage. Since Wolfie is now the bass player I just hope Eddie has his act together and isnt falling down drunk everynight like he seemed to be last tour.

still doesn't seem right w/o MA

Cannot believe this is happening without Mike ;)

I've read in the VH Links forum that this tour will start in Greensboro after the two Vegas shows, just as the last "reunion" with Hagar did. I'm not sure what my thoughts are on this & if I'll spend the $$$ to see this one. VH has been and always will be my favorite band, with either Roth, Hagar, & yes, even Cherone. Seen them 7 or 8 times, but never with Roth, so this is almost a dream come true. But a 15 year old kid playing Mikes bass? Cmon...

This could be a trainwreck that will minimize the Cherone debacle.

Wanna know the sadest part about Wolfgang playing in MA's spot is?

He'll be 10 times better at it. But I'm with you 100%. For the love of God man, if you're gonna get back with Dave, how can you do it without MA?

IMO..MA was the ONLY stable guy in the entire band. Eddie and Dave both have monster egos, and Alex does whatever Eddie says, apparently.

that being said, it will be cool to see his son jammin out with him. We may get a glimpse of the next generation of Van Halen, so it's an intriguing time, but it's still wrong to play without MA.

I say less than 50/50 thay can finish the tour without breaking up, and put the over/under at about 25 shows.

Saw Van Halen in their heyday...1984 tour. Man what a show.

Saw Hagar in his heyday, "I can't drive 55" tour. (band called "Zebra" opened for them - they were a RUSH-esque power trio and damn good live)

Then saw Van Hagar on the Monsters of Rock tour and they SUCKED. Pastel colored parachute pants and all. I left 1/4 way into their set.

Saw David Lee Roth on the Eat 'em & Smile tour - Steve Vai on guitar, Billy Sheehan on Bass - one of the best live shows I've seen of that or any genre.

Eddie & Alex Van Halen both seem like tremendouse d0uchebags in any interview and DLR is an arrogant obnoxious focktard. I think the show might be ok, and it's especially worth going because on any given night you might see DLR & EVH get into a brawl. Otherwise I'm avoiding this train wreck - it won't be as good as anything from their peak, so why would I set myself up for disappointment?

Essentially, Police reunion >>> Van Halen reunion.

I agree, but I think it will be for some sort of health issue.

- DLR loses his voice..or sprains his bagina trying to pull of one of his kicks. Or Eddie's tongue falls off.

Essentially; Police reunion > Van Halen reunion.

They ought to kill two birds with one stone; have Sting take over for MA and to hell with DLR and Wolfgang. To hell with Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland too, for that matter.

Hit Parader: So how does it feel to be back?

Eddie Van Halen: Back where? I haven't gone anywhere.

Hit Parader: What have you been up to since your 2004 was tour with Sammy Hagar was cut short?

Eddie Van Halen: Oh, just writing, recording. Jamming with my kid [Wolfgang, new VAN HALEN bass player] and Al [Alex Van Halen, VAN HALEN drummer]. My son Wolfie, the kid's a natural. Started on guitar. Moved to bass last year, and we've just been jamming it up.

Hit Parader: Did you know from the outset that you would be getting Dave back in the band?

Eddie Van Halen: Y'know, it didn't really matter who it was. It could be Dave. It could be someone else. We actually had a couple of people come up to the house and sing. It could have been them.

Hit Parader: Or Hagar?

Eddie Van Halen: Nah. After the last tour, I realized that was sort of a mistake.

Hit Parader: What happened?

Eddie Van Halen: We just wanted to play. Couldn't get it together with Dave, though we'd sure tried. So Sam called Al and that set into motion. I was the last one. I said sure. Then we got Sobolewski [ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony] in, though I didn't really want to. Anyway, it just fell apart. Nobody was on speaking terms. And Hagar and the bass player were just using the press coverage to sell tequila or hot sauce. It was below the belt.

Hit Parader: So no chance on getting Anthony back in the band?

Eddie Van Halen: Why? He hasn't played on a VAN HALEN record in years. We've not spoken. I don't mean to slight him, he's a good player. But there hasn't been that vibe or closeness for years. Plus now he's off playing with the enemy. (laughs)

Hit Parader: You mean Hagar? Their band, THE OTHER HALF?

Eddie Van Halen: Yeah, what's with that? They're out there selling hot sauce and tequila and playing all the songs I wrote. It's kind of sad.

Hit Parader: So how did Roth enter the picture? I've been under the impression that you two haven't gotten along for years?

Eddie Van Halen: We wanted to play music again. Wolfie came to me last year and told me how much he loved those old songs. They were easy to learn and fun to play. So we've been jamming them for ages now, and I just sort of looked at Al and said, "Forget it, get Dave in here!" So we called him.

Hit Parader: Just like that?

Eddie Van Halen: No, it wasn't just like that. There were lots of lawyers and things to go through. (laughs)

Hit Parader: Did Anthony contact you?

Eddie Van Halen: No, but my agent, who is also my girlfriend, told me she'd heard that Hagar was trying to contact me. I don't know what the hell he wants.

Hit Parader: So cancer-free, going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a tour with Roth? That's a big turnaround.

Eddie Van Halen: Yeah, it's great. But I don't think we're all going to play at the Hall of Fame. I can't imagine us all trying to share the stage together. Frankly, I don't want to play with everyone.

Hit Parader: What about a new album?

Eddie Van Halen: Yeah, maybe. I've got so much music. The name VAN HALEN, the family legacy, is going to go on forever. Passed on. My kid is a natural. I'm going to have him play on a solo record at some point.

Hit Parader: And new music with Roth?

Eddie Van Halen: Well, that's what we hope. We all sound great. You have no idea. And there's more than enough new music. But one thing at a time. We haven't even rehearsed that much yet.

Roth: Eddie and I wrote the songs, every note, every syllable, as if we invented a language that only we can speak. It was an easy, natural thing… When you speak a language that you both created, it's natural to go, "I know you." So it was very easy. There wasn't any stumble at all. I just showed up, and twenty minutes later, it was the usual, "How's the wife, how's the kids, let's play." When you're born to do that language, you speak it naturally. I never forgot it.

On how rehearsals are going:

Roth: The chemistry is combustible. There's an explosive sound there that is, I think, perhaps… unless you were there, which most folks weren't, than you may have forgotten. This is really sophisticated, smart stuff. Everybody's at the top of their game in terms of… it's not just intangible things. My voice is arguably better than it was when I left the band back when. I love what I do, perhaps for some different reasons now than I did, more so than I did. It's a privilege to do what I do for a living.

On whether or not the reunion will be permanent:

Roth: God willin', and the creek don't run dry, just like Grandma Roth used to say. Barring any act of God or Ferrari…yeah. I have hope and faith, and that's more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque.

"According to Management, the Van Halen Tour with David Lee Roth has been indefinitely postponed. When Van Halen's management announced the tour on February 2nd, there still was no contract signed. Van Halen's management is now Eddie's girlfriend. Apparently Eddie and Alex had been rehearsing with Eddie's son, Wolfgang. The New "Best of" CD highlighting the David Lee Roth years has also been scrapped by Rhino".

VELVET REVOLVER has been tapped for VAN HALEN's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band will perform in VAN HALEN's place, and singer Scott Weiland and guitarist Slash will speak on VAN HALEN's behalf. For now, it doesn't look like David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar will join VELVET REVOLVER onstage, and Michael Anthony hasn't commented yet. It's still unknown whether Eddie and Alex Van Halen will attend the ceremony.

David Lee Roth has snubbed fellow VAN HALEN frontman Sammy Hagar's suggestion the two singers should team up when the band is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Hagar, who replaced Roth in the band, has suggested the collaboration would be a fitting way to honour the group's legacy, but the singer-turned-radio presenter insists it's a terrible idea.

Roth tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I would not do that. That's a whole other kind of music, that's a whole other approach to songwriting... Let him go and do his own thing."
