McCaskill buys 100 tix, ends Rams blackout

Recommended Posts

pretty savvy!

On Sunday, the television station KMOV in St. Louis was, near the last minute, able to broadcast the Rams season-opener game, possibly because of none other than Claire McCaskill, the Democratic opponent of Senator Jim Talent.

She bought the remaining 100 tickets to last Sunday’s game, which resulted in the lifting of the NFL blackout rule for the local station. For its part, the station broadcast news footage of a press conference where she passed out the tickets to students and a charity.

She got publicity, thousands of fans saw the game on television live instead of via reruns, the station probably reaped extra ad revenue during the show. And the Rams won, 18-10.

How pathetic. St. Louis doesn't even deserve a franchise if they can't sell out a home game?

L.A. and St. Louis doesn't deserve an NFL franchise.

You mean the Rams got a measly 100 tickets away out of 70,000 and the team didn't buy them to lift the black out. Wow, what a crapazz franchise.

How close are we to elected officials sponsering sporting events.

This inning is brought to you by, Governor John Freeman. [insert attack on opponent here] That's John Freeman for Governor reelect

yea, with news footage adding the following footnote:

Claire McCaskill does not give a rat's ass about giving students tickets to a game nor does she give a rat's ass about making it possible for Rams fans to watch the home opener on television. This is a political stunt to gain favor with the voters and had this not been an election year you stupid saps would be listening to the game on the radio.

at least she's not an idiot like Talent, who opposes the use of stem cells. And how do you make money raping seniors? Is there a video market for it? I notice you don't mention the 13 separate audits she performed on MO nursing homes, generally praised by state media and made into a law (using several of the audit recommendations) signed in 2003.

Nonstory. If she wouldn't have bought the tickets, somebody would have.

And I don't believe it was "near the last minute".

dude, she sucks. Her ex-husband was busted on a riverboat casino, smokin weed on the top deck when they were married and she was a state legislature. Just last year he was shot and killed, likely drug related. She had to know what the hell he was doing, and some of the complaints and all the accusations on their nursing homes makes you not want to send your parents to any nursing homes

Jim Talent is an ordinary everyday dude. He goes to events in blue jeans and a button up, he is a great senator that votes his conscience. The stem-cell issue doesn't have quite the backing here in Mo that it might in OR, and as an elected official his duty is to represent the folks of his home state. I really hope claire doesnt win, she sucks.

actually the opposite is true. If some regular person had bought them, that wouldn't be a story.

The fact that a major party Senate candidate bought them, IS news.

"near last minute" indicates enough time to put together a press conference...I assume we're talking about some point during the weekend.

she sucks because her husband smoked pot? That's ENORMOUSLY weak.

Missourians back stem cell research by a strong majority, Mr. Uninformed as Usual. A REPUBLICAN pollster reached that conclusion last year.

If as you say his duty is to represent the folks of his home state, I assume you will now vote against Talent based on him not doing his duty?

yeah, missouri cures is an unbiased site

There will be just as many pro-life people that get out to vote as there will be pro stem-cell folks, believe me. Regardless how the issue turns out, it shouldn't be funded by the govt. ;)

I didn't cite Missouri Cures, you imbecile. I cited a REPUBLICAN POLLSTER.

On what basis are you claiming pro-lifers will turn out? Republican interest in these elections is generally low.

And what does that have to do with you erroneously claiming Missourians don't back federal stem cell research? That IS the issue, precisely so.

All I know is when the Lions played in the 80,000 seat silverdome and there were a few hundred tickets left. Whenever someone bought up the rest so it could be on TV it was on the news and in the papers. Maybe it's different down there, I don't know

your hyperlink went to missouri cures.

Pro-Lifers will turn out because some still see this as a pro-life issue, and in outstate missouri id guess 65% of the voters are pro-life.

And not backing the fed govt not funding stem-cell research is my stance.

I wish republicans could pick a side, either you're for it or against it. This, I want it, but I don't want to piss of the religious right, and I also don't want to piss off everyone else so I'll just go with the federal government shouldn't help fund this research.

so why should exactly the government be spending your and my money for something that might or might not work? If there was enough of a need or merit then the funding would be there from the private sector. Maybe we should spend billions funding voodoo next, cause you know, that might work too!

my hyperlink could have come from NAMBLA; it doesn't change the fact that a GOP pollster says you're dead wrong about the support for stem cell research in MO.

I know that govt funding is your stance; you were saying that wasn't the issue when it exactly IS the issue: should the government, through its normal process of scientific R&D, fund stem cell research?

Unless you think the government has no business trying to see that Americans don't suffer from cancer, Parkinson's and a variety of other diseases, I'm at a loss as to why you don't think they should. Are you against immunizations as well?

Are you seriously comparing stem cell research to voo doo? You do understand that federal govt is the number one source for funding research. They do not know if any of the projects they fund will work but they do the research because there is potential. It has been proven that there is potential in stem cell research.

The private industry is in the business of treating disease not curing it.

to a certain extent both. They are elected to represent their constituents, yet at the same time those constituents voted them in knowing their stance on some issues (guns, abortion, etc)

Where to start setting the record stright?

The President Of Operations for the Rams was quoted as saying the game would have been a sellout for sure with or without her buying the remaining handful of tickets. The rams have sold every regular season game since they moved to St. Louis. Every week there a few hundred singles and stray tickets available for every game, and they always sell them in time to lift the blackout.

McCaskill's campaign bought the last 100 tickets. Ninety were distributed by lottery to students at Miller Career Academy with perfect attendance, and 10 were donated to George Washington Carver House, a crisis intervention center serving youth and their families.

It was a cheap way to get her some positive publicity.

CMH4776 has never had a thought that some dumbass redneck hasn't told him to have.

Once again the State of Missouri offers me a choice between two evils. My hot button issues are represented better by her than Jim Talent. If the GOP was offering up a candidate that wasn't so party-line, I'd take a long look.
