PS3 Vs XBox 360 Vs Nintendo Wii

Britney spears: hey mayhem, come bang me monday - wend

As soon as I get that call I'll reevaluate my priorities.

It's not like I play every night, geez. I get back home from work/gym/lesson whatever at like 9:00, if the Monday night game sucks or nothing on TV I'll play for a couple hours. Or if I have nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon sure I'll play. I wouldn't turn down a social activity to play a video game.

Of course this is just one guy's opinion. It was just the most recent article I could find comparing the PS3 and 360.

Denis Dyack: 360, PS3 Are Equals

The head of Silicon Knights says it's a wash between the next-gen consoles.

by Daemon Hatfield

November 3, 2006 - Silicon Knights, makers of Eternal Darkness, are readying the forever-in-development Too Human for the Xbox 360, as well as an unannounced title for the PlayStation 3. Speaking to the San Jose Mercury News, the company's President, Denis Dyack, says the next-generation systems are virtually identical in terms of power.

"The 360 and the PS3 are equal in power in my eyes," Dyack says. "Maybe the PS3 has more processing power. The 360 has more available memory. It's pretty much a net, net. The public perception of the PS3 was that it was much more powerful. To developers, they look even."

Silicon Knights had a working relationship with Nintendo for several years, making Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the GameCube. That partnership ended in 2004, though, and Dyack says he has no current plans to develop for the Wii. Too Human is planned as a trilogy for the Xbox 360.

I just saw Gears of War last weekend at my friends place.

That game plus NHL07 would make me buy an XBOX360 if I wouldn't need a new TV to handle it.

Alas, I'll have to settle for regular XBOX until it makes sense for me to buy a new TV.

Like I've stated before in other threads, I only play a few hours a year of games.

I have an xbox 360 already (more for my brother than me, but once fable 2 comes out, I'll play and then probably not play again ever)

I'm THINKING about getting a Wii only cause of the old games you can play.

I'll probably never get a PS3, but my brother is (to sell to the fools on ebay) and then he'll use that money to buy a Wii and PS3 and have money left over.

The only reason I'd get a Wii is cause I could hook it up to my hi def tv's.

If anyone wants to play old school nintendo/sega/turbografix 16 games, just download emulators and their roms. Buy a $20 controller and hook it up to you PC and play through your PC. all told you'll spend maybe $20, but that depends on your controller... thats alot cheaper than $250 for a Wii....

Jesus H Christ the message boards for gaming sites SUCK ASS. They are either $ or the layout/search features are not worth the headache.

Someone who has followed the Wii saga tell me if Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, 3 or Mario All Stars will be available on their virtual console at some point!

An article I read stated that all previous Nintendo proprietary titles will be available for download. That includes all Mario games.

Cheap downloadable games are one major perk of the Wii.

but the games are make believe. watching sports, news, etc., is at least real. its social too

if you have nothing better to do with your life than sit and shoot aliens, thats pretty sad. try telling adults or girls about your gaming experience.

adult: "whats new"

gamer: "i just saved the princess in the new zelda game"

girl: "wow you are cute, what do you like to do?"

gamer: I just freed the galaxy from ________________

what a life :pointstosky:

LOL, that's what I always say to my wife when she asks what I'm doing, during the infrequent opportunities I get to play video games. Am I a loser? Maybe. That Said, I have so little time to play that I've been working my way through Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for about 4 months and still haven't finished...

the hot girl seems like the type you could have a blast with for about 6 months, then you would have to leave or kill her

on the bright side, if you chose to kill her, you could still have fun with her for about 10 more hours?

Um no those are some of the big box retailers. Sony is cutting off the smaller chains/independent stores.

Potentially important development for prospective PS3 owners from IGN:

PS3 Downscales 720p on Incapable TVs

If your TV doesn't support a specific resolution, expect to go low-res.

by Jeremy Dunham

November 15, 2006 - As final PlayStation 3 units continue to trickle into more and more hands, additional details about how the system works and what it can and can't do are hitting the web. The latest (rather major) tidbit is how the console treats the upscaling and downscaling of 720p titles on televisions that don't support that resolution -- specifically those that are only 1080i capable.

As it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that feature only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolution input capabilities will have to settle for the display quality being downsized as the game boots in its 480p mode rather than upscaling the image from its more desirable 720p mode to the TV's 1080i. We tested this development on older HDTV sets with games designed for 720p but not 1080i -- Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 2K7, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and Need for Speed Carbon. Sure enough, the system downshifted all four titles to 480p rather than moving up to 1080i.

Also important that it was revealed yesterday that older PS games would not all be compatible with PS3 and that the problem is not expected to be corrected ever. I'm totally buying the XBox 360 for christmas now.

Zelda is great...and the new one is suppossedly more than 70 hours of play. And that's how long it took the developer to get through it.

If you haven't read about it, you can peep it here:

Excite Truck?!!?!#@!@ Controller as a stearing wheel?!@? $250?!

SOLD!

Seriously, I hadn't really considered buying a new system because of how little time I spend on gaming. I figured I'd play my bro's PS2 for a while, stick with Madden or NCAA 07... but I am SERIOUSLY thinking about the Wii.

yeah, the whole controller as a steering wheel is pretty slick.

You can see someone playing a bowling game with it too - you're standing up and swinging your arm as though you're bowling. Too cool for school.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?f...amp;satitle=PS3

Pretty interesting, the PS3s on ebay have really come down in price after the weekend. They were going for over 3k on Friday and now just a bit over 1k. i wonder if people are just starting to come to their senses or what. :dunno:

Yeah I saw that. Average e-bay price on launch day was $2700. Now it's settled down to about $1200. All the looney buyers have bought their systems - now it's just the semi-loonies.

I love seeing some of the buy it now prices at $4K+. That boat sailed a week ago.

Also, other big problem I heard about:

If you want to download a tv show or movie on the 360, it does it in the background while you can still play games or whatever. The PS3 LOCK UP your machine while you download content.

PLUS I've heard the Blue Ray players are freezing

Some systems not working at all.

I'm sure there will be some news about what the initial release systems were like, but I'm guessing these are more prototypes-in-a-box that actauly tested and true PS3s. I'm seriously leaning towards a 360 at this point.

$4,000?!?!?!?!?

Man am I pissed I didn't sign up for a pre-sale and sell it on eBay. I'm kicking myself. So many idiots in the world with money to burn. $3400 is a tidy little profit for a $600 OOP expense.

The biggest price paid was $9K according to a TV report. None of the $4K Buy It Nows are getting any action. I think there will be quite a few people that will get 'stuck' with a PS3 when they realize too late they won't get a huge payday for obtaining one.
