It has been named only because it serves as an obscure answer to an unimportant trivia question. Back when they taught "School" in school, there was no reason to mention this unimportant factoid at all. However, since residences of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona feel that they need equal representation in our history and geography books, they have demanded the The Four Corners be mentioned with the likes of The Liberty Bell, The Boston Tea Party, The Statue Of Liberty, The Grand Canyon, and the Mississippi River.
