My dad passed away 22 years ago.

As for me, I imagine I'll get breakfast in bed from the kids, and some nooky from the wife.

My dad has this one already... he liked it.

Not sure yet what I'll get my dad this year. He loves reading, classical music and good movies. Probably something related to one of those three with a card.

I may bake him some cookies to add to the gift. He always loves that.

I'll send my father a card as we aren't that close, never really have been.

Then I'm having a BBQ at my house for my ex and my son's grandpa (he does a lot for my son, especially when I need someone to watch him). Will probably BBQ kabobs or something.

Well, my dad's a real piece of sh|t, as detailed in earlier posts, so not only does he get nothing from me, but if he's invited to father's day at my sister's or her in-law's house I likely will not be showing my face.

He isn't a step dad.

Since he lives with you and so does your son most of the time I'd say that qualifies to an extent.

My son has a father, and regardless of who I am dating, no one will ever replace him.

That's why they call him a "step dad" and not "dad."

I didn't realize that was a tradition. Do we get a recap every year about his psycho ex, or what?

I guess I haven't paid attention to his dad's sucktasticness. I've only noticed his ex's sucktasticness. I'll try to pay more attention this year.

I only remember it because I read it one time 1-3 years ago.

He was a real POS as you will read about on 6-15.

I used to not care about such personal stuff here. Now I suppose I do, but I tend to forget a lot of it, because, well, I really don't care that much. But I promise it will be different this time! Or not. Whatever.

My annual Father's Day thread is intended as a "dark humor" antithesis of the "feel good" crap that generally is. I actually love my father very much and there has never been a doubt in my mind that he loves all of his sons.

Still, many of us come for the "Golden Age" of old school discipline. Or, maybe like in the case of DaveBG, he is just a plan horrifying human being.

In any event, it's origin escapes me (details) but I just remember someone posting a horrible story about their father on or around Father's Day and I recall that I wasn't the only one who replied to it... HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

Since then, I made a point (with only one exception I believe) to start a Father's Day thread where we all can post a horrifying story experienced with our wonderful fathers and close your post with...

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

I'd do Mother's Day, too... but it's a LOT of work just preparing for the annual Father's Day thread. I leave the Mother's Day equivalent to someone else. (I did Mom's Day one year, but just haven't felt inclined to do it again.)

That DOES sound familiar!@# Damn, I thought I killed all of those brain cells. Oh well, I'll go work on that. If I ask about this thread again, it means I was successful. :dunno:

I don't really want anything special. I asked for a golf umbrella. I will probably play golf, but just goofing around the house with the kids (in small doses) is just fine with me. :dunno:

chariots of fire

the sting

so i think i'll pick him up one or both... he loves watching old movies, and he always talks about these movies... so hopefully he'll appreciate them

I didn't know you were coming out of the closet!! :o
