How long did it take to receive it in the mail?

I guess the marriage counseling has already been deemed a flop.

Dood, Rusty.

We are going on a cruise to Mexico, and I want to make sure I get my passport in time. According to their website and when I paid for it, I should but I want to check.

Mine was just a renewal, so you wouldn't think that it would take that long.

They are months behind. Don't trust what the website says now or when you paid for it. You need to follow up immediately.

I applied for a passport in late May. Since I'm not planning on using it until next Summer, I just paid for Standard service and was told it would take 10-12 weeks to get it. Strangely, I got it within 3 weeks.

However, they misspelled my name (despite the fact that the documents I provided them with were correct). So I resubmitted a change form and was told it would be another 10-12 weeks. (even though the error was on their end). Had to pay for another set of pics too.

I am still waiting for it to arrive. I think it's been about 7 weeks now.

I suggest you apply very early and allow yourself ample time before your trip because according to them, they often make errors. :headbanger:

I got mine last summer and it took about 90 days from the type I applied for it. I think you get a rush order in some circumstances :headbanger:

If I don't have it here before August 27th, I will call them.

Thanks.

did you just do it today or this week? if that's the case, then you are most likely focked if you want to travel in late august, phone call or no.

but not good focked, like warm cantaloupe hole and a couch. but bad focked, like cornholed by rico in the mexico prison system.

1) Don't wait - check on it now. I have many friends who've been waiting months for theirs. That's why it made the national news.

2) It's also why they relaxed a lot of rules - including travels to Messico.

WASHINGTON — The government, hoping to placate angry travelers, on Friday temporarily waived its new anti-terrorism rules and lifted the requirment that U.S. passports be used for citizens flying to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

The change should ease a long backlog of applications, triggered by the new rules, that had disrupted many summer vacations.

Under the new rules, citizens will be able to fly without passports to and from those areas through Sept. 30 if they can show a receipt verifying they have applied, according to U.S. officials.

Applicants could get receipts by going to the State Department's website, the officials said. Travelers without passports also would:

• Be required to show another form of government-issued ID, such as a driver's license.

Many people are enlisting the help of their reps in Congress to help move things along if their passport is delayed.

The quote that you posted, I am aware of. I have my proof and my DL, but having the actual PP would make me feel MUCH better about traveling there. JMO.

TNG:

My son was leaving for a trip to Canada last month, so I ordered his passport with 3 weeks to spare and paid $85 to have it "rushed" which means 2 weeks or less. Well, even with the extra money, it took almost 7 weeks to get it. They are really behind.

Since they are so behind on new passports, I believe you can show your birth certificate, proper id, and the passport application for travel to and from Mexico & Canada.

I went to Mexico about three weeks ago, and there were many people in line with proof that they submitted weeks ago.

As long as you have your proper paperwork, you should be OK.

Mine was just a renewal, so you wouldn't think that it would take that long.

I renewed mine in the first week of Feb, and had to go to the Fex Ex building on May 24, the day before I left, to get it. The second your trip is 2 weeks away, call the phone number as early as 6am and let them know you did not recieve it. Each time I called they said they'd "do their best", and that the New Hampshire center is "usually pretty good". Thankfully I received it, but there was a 2 week period where I was on edge.

Well there are some cute chicks that work there and they have been manadated to an extra 16 hours of overtime a month. So they are feeling the pressure and doing their best.

I renewed mine last winter and took over 8 weeks. I heard it is even slower now. Make sure you have a ton of time for it.

I applied in April and just recieved it back last week.

DENIED

I'm living in the U.S but am Canadian, so i had to go through those focken French Canadians in Quebec...those POS denied me for the ever so slightest shadow on my picture that was taken by a passport photo place in Ft.Myers

We were going to Messico as well...here's the deal.

Make sure you have a reciept and/or tracking number that you can bring with you in case you don't recieve it in time. I just showed my fedex overnight tracking paper that confirmed I did in fact send out for a passport. The airlines simply made copies of it and sent me on my way to Messico.

From my experience, that is a good thing. Why my passport application was not processed in Philly, since I live there, is beyond me.

i just got back from Punta Cana, DR. i got my Passport in the mail the day before i left for the trip. it took 16 weeks even though they said 10-12. and i had to call numerous times to try and put a rush on it to get it in time.

my wife applied with me, hers a renewal, and she did NOT get hers in time for the trip. fortunately, since they're so behind, they made the exception for travel to the Carribbean that she could go w/out a passport. she just needed her Original Birth Certfificate (raised seal), Driver's Licesence, and Proof that she Applied for her Passport (all you do is print a form off the internet that gives you a locator #).

anyway, if you haven't gotten it you should check and see if you can still travel to where you are going without the passport like my wife did. if so, go online and print that Proof you applied form with the Locator #. and make sure you have your Original Birth Certfificate with the Raised Seal.

don't even bother calling the # to talk to anyone. they only deal with people that are traveling within 14 or 10 days. so unless your leaving that soon, calling won't do much for you. and even when you do call and talk to someone all they end up doing is saying "ok, we'll put a rush on it" but all they do is e-mail someone and cross their fingers it will come in time.

my suggestion to anyone applying is pay the extra $$$ upfront when you apply to have it expidited.

Byars,

I'm going with my girlfriend to Punta Cana in 2 weeks. We're staying at an all-inclusive. Any suggestions of what I should check out down there? How's the nightlife?

TIA

I didn’t leave the resort. We did an all-inclusive at Excellence. And it was Excellent. There’s no reason to leave the resort. There’s nothing around, at least where we were in Punta Cana, to go see or do. There was no town or night life or residential area around. Even if there were, I wouldn’t go, its pretty rundown outside of the resorts and I wouldn’t feel comfortable out there. The only time I would leave the resort would be to do one of the trips set up through the resort: snorkel, swim with dolphins, dune buggy rides, horseback rides, etc. Otherwise just chill out on the beach and pool and eat and drink massively.

Which resort are you staying at?

FYI: try the mamawama shots. also they have a "sammy sosa" drink. its red, white, and blue. pina colada, strawberry daquair and whatever the blue is. i found it disgusting but everyone in the pool bar loved them.

Yeah, from what I hear you shouldn't leave the resort and there's probably no reason to anyway. Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going to try the mamawama shots and Sammy Sosa :overhead: .

By the way, we are staying at the Paradisus Resort

When I called, I don't need the birth certificate, just the Proof and the DL.

If I need to BC that sucks because those are slow in getting as well.

Actually they aren't. I didn't have my original Birth Certificate the day I submitted my passport application... I only had the hospital copy of the BC. The post office I applied at sent me down to the courthouse and I filled out a form, paid my $ (I think it was something like $15) and waited about 5 minutes for them to print it out.

I got my BC in about 2 days. i didn't have the original so i went to the Dept. of Vital Statistics web site, filled out the info and about 2 days later in was in my mailbox. i didn't have to go anywhere, wait in any lines, anything. just click click and it was in my mailbox days later.

If i were you, I'd get the BC. They definetly looked at my wife's BC along with her license and the Proof. i think the BC was the important piece. and better to be safe because when you don't have a passport some of the people get confused and it seems like the BC was the important document to have.
