Hope all the Twin Cities geeks are OK

Recommended Posts

Sounds like it's pretty bad. Rush hour traffic maybe?

Heard 100K vehicles go over the bridge every day. But it did happen as probably the worst possible time.

Homeland security is/was on the sceen, but terrorism isn't suspected at the moment.

Damn

Obviously I am alright...I've checked with all of my family/friends and they are ok.

There is usually bumper to bumper traffic at rush hour. Also, 35W runs pretty much to the Dome, and the twins game started at 7:15.

Not good.

two eye witness reports said that the people involved in the accident right by the school bus got all of the kids off safely.

Good grief- that's terrible.

CNN is showing the scene, and it's bad.

Hope our Geek friends are ok.

AP saying 1 dead

CNN saying 3 dead

Eye witness who was near the bridge at the time of colapse, who is also certified rescue, said he saw "several" cars that were smashed by concrete into the river and he didn't think they survived.

Sad deal

Death count is 3 right now.

Twins game tonight is going on to keep the people off the roads for the next few hours, tomorrow's game postponed.

Wow I didn't hear that...it makes sense. I'm guessing they are canceling the ground breaking of the new stadium too.

Interesting side note: The T-wolves were giving their press conference of the Garnett trade and Glen Taylor's (t-wolves owner) had his grand-daughter was involved in the collapse. They stopped the conference and he was in tears.

Yea, atleast 4 or 5 that were partly submerged, but who knows how many completely sank. That is right on the main channel of the river, and it is atleast 18-24 ft deep at that spot. Luckily (if you can say that) it is right below one of the dams and they can slow the flow of water to help with the search and rescue efforts.

Death toll stands at 6. Would have been ten times higher if that school bus had fallen in (60 kids on the bus!?!).

ETA: Red Cross states 30-50 cars in the river, so expect this to get worse. At least 1 person drowned.

I work about a mile from there and went over that bridge about an hour before it happened. It is totally nuts downtown tonight. I hope there is no more bad news. Horrible incident....
