I'm not saying that's what will happen, but it is certainly possible.

any division games anywhere this year are up in the air. It's not like San Diego is a tough venue to play in, and Denver certainly isn't unbeatable at home either.

I think Denver is a little over-rated, so I can definitely see KC splitting with Denver, losing both to San Diego but winning both the Oakland games, that would get them to 3-3 in the division.

my prediction was:

without LJ 3-13, with LJ 6-10 at best, therefore the smart thing to do was trade LJ for a couple 1st rounders.

Looks like we were both wrong, CMH, and I'm man enough to admit it. Queefs will go 1-15

Two Words - Herm Edwards.

OK, he may be a little bit of a motivator, but :

He can't manage the clock, even when he hired someone to manage the clock when he was with the Jets he still screwed it up and got delay of game penalties.

He can't manage the team - LJ was smart to get some guaranteed money before Herm runs him to his grave this year.

He can't make a decision, let alone the right one.

You will never go anywhere with him as your coach - get over it get a new one and some hope. Trust me I watched him while he was the Jet's coach - he'll frustrate you to no end.

Good Luck though.

I can hardly wait for all the comments about how the defense is improving :pointstosky: and it's just the offense holding the team back

well maybe not.

If nothing else, I think the texans might finally be turning the corner, they played a good game.

And Bowe looks promosing, and the D is young and coming together, did an ok job today. Still a ways to go, but heading in the right direction. The O will turn it one at some point, and they'll look much better than they did today.

In other news, I think I'm going 3-0 in fantasdy

They finally opened up the passing game yesterday, and made the Vikings more honest. The gameplan wasn't working before, and they're just going to have to pass and pass and keep passing and make opponents respect the pass before the running game is going to get going. Hopefully they saw that yesterday when they finally opened up the offense a little bit.

Denver is 2-1 after a couple ugly wins against Buffalo and Oakland. The rest of the division is 1-2. At this point, the division is wide-open and I see no reason to believe the Chiefs aren't going to be just as competitive as anybody else in the division

Jets fan here, you will not be going to the playoffs. Even if you had some decent talent, which you clearly lack on both sides of the ball sans a stud RB, you wouldn't. Because of Herm. Best thing to happen to us is him leaving. No chance of success with that bum at the helm. Sorry...

PS: Expect LJ to be barely able to walk by the year 2010. Yup, Herm will do it to him just like that. Poor fellow...

Whitlock: Angry players get through to coaches

With about 5 minutes left in the first half, Damon Huard and Larry Johnson erupted in outrage over the “offensive” play-calling that had the Chiefs down two scores to the Vikings and headed for an 0-3 start.

Johnson had been tackled in the backfield, again. He popped up from the ground, spiked the ball and joined Huard in demonstrably yelling toward the Kansas City sideline. A ref flagged Johnson for delay of game.

Two plays later, Huard came off the field and screamed at quarterbacks coach ###### Curl as kicker Dave Rayner completed Kansas City’s seven-play, seven-yard drive with a 39-yard field goal.

“Players were emotionally in the game and got mad,” Herm Edwards explained in the aftermath of his team’s ugly, season-saving 13-10 victory over Minnesota. “(They) got mad at calls, got mad at what we were asking them to do, they got mad at coaches, coaches got mad at players.”

Huard and Johnson may have accomplished what booing Chiefs fans, angry sports columnists and rational players such as Brian Waters couldn’t. Huard and Johnson shamed Edwards, Curl and offensive coordinator Mike Solari into running an offense that made some sort of sense.

Down 10-3 at the break having featured fullback/tight end Kris Wilson (three receptions, 13 yards) in the sideways passing game, the Chiefs unleashed the downfield Gonzo-Bowe attack the final 30 minutes.

In the second half, Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe combined for 11 catches, 153 yards and one TD. In the opening 30 minutes, the pair generated one reception for 14 yards. The Chiefs basically ignored Bowe, the lone Chief to score a touchdown this season.

Hey, it wasn’t quite the return of the ###### Vermeil-Al Saunders-Trent Green circus, but the Chiefs were able to move the football, produce first downs, score 10 points and accept the victory the officiating crew handed KC when it wiped out a Minnesota TD catch in the second quarter.

You have to walk before you can jog. The Chiefs took their first positive steps on Sunday. Edwards, Curl and Solari identified their offensive playmakers and made a concerted effort to get them the ball.

“We wanted to get the ball to three guys in our offense,” Edwards said. “It has to rotate among three guys — 27, 88 and 82. I talked about that this week with our staff.”

And Huard and Johnson reminded the staff late in the second quarter. Normally, I’d criticize Johnson for drawing such a silly penalty. But, honestly, this coaching staff needed to be publicly embarrassed. Losing wasn’t enough. Getting booed at home wasn’t enough. Vicious newspaper columns didn’t do the trick.

The Punt-uda Triangle — Herm, Curl and Solari — had to be called out in front of 80,000 spectators to force the proper adjustments.

After the game, I jokingly asked Gonzalez who would be the first to take a swing at ###### Curl — Johnson or Huard.

“Probably Damon because he has to work with him every day,” Gonzalez joked.

Let me be the first to gladly admit that I was wrong about Dwayne Bowe. I had previously suggested he was the second coming of Sylvester Morris. That doesn’t appear to be true. Although we should keep in mind that Sly Mo had a three-TD day against San Diego his rookie year and then disappeared.

Right now, Bowe looks like the outside playmaker the Chiefs desperately need. He scored Sunday on a 16-yard fade pass when he was perfectly covered. He simply leaped in the air, snatched the ball and tapped his feet inbounds.

“Damon made a great throw, and I made a great catch,” Bowe accurately summarized.

When Eddie Kennison returns from his hamstring injury, the Chiefs just might have a formidable passing attack, a threat that might create running lanes for Larry Johnson.

“We can’t get LJ going until (Bowe) makes people respect our passing game,” Waters said.

Johnson had 42 yards in 24 carries. The interior of Minnesota’s defensive line manhandled Waters, Casey Wiegmann and John Welbourn in the running game.

Well, now it’s on to sunny San Diego, where the Chargers are a disappointing 1-2, as well. There are likely to be a lot of angry and emotional players inside Qualcomm Stadium. It’ll be interesting to see which superstar running back snaps first, LJ or LT.

That division is so bad right now, it wouldn't surprise me if Oakland, KC, Denver, or San Diego won it. One of those teams has to make it to the playoffs since that's the way it's set up. Right now, the winner of this division would get the #4 seed in the AFC. I don't see anyone else getting the #5 or #6 spots from this division. Baltimore, Houston , and Jacksonville seem to have their eye on those spots.

I see it differently. I think KC was beat by 2 quality teams in Chi and Hou. SD was beat by 2 quality teams in NE and GB. And Den has played 3 decent opponents in Oak, Buf and jac.

This division isn't the powerhouse that it has been the last few years, but the rest of the league is getting better and it is showing. I think we have 4 good teams in the AFCW, not great teams but good. None of these teams are really that much better than any of the rest, and like you said at this point it is up in the air.

At least until kennison comes back and KC unleashes their unrivaled air attack :shocking:

The Chiefs are finding ways to win games, but you're drunk, mentally ill, or both if you believe they're anything that could be considered good.

their defense is good, and they have some playmakers on offense. No they are not Indy or NE good, but who else is? Every other team out there has flaws as well. But as for moving forward, the Chiefs are in just as good of shape as anybody, with some young talent on both sides of the ball. They could make the playoffs this year and then probably exit early once again, but looking ahead to next year where the Chiefs are already looking at 11 '08 draft picks (4 via trades Green, Tynes, Sims, & Bennett) they are really setting themselves up for the future nicely.

Good Lord.

Apparently, you forgot about getting dominated at home and only scoring on the last play of the friggin game to Jax. How long ago was that???

I've got to hand it to KC, they're hanging around and will probably be relevant to the very end. Who knows, they could repeat their 2006 season and back into the playoffs. It might come down to that game vs TEN to decide the last playoff spot. JAX might be in trouble the next couple of weeks without Garard. BAL is going to struggle throughout. And the AFCW is average at best. They could win another 5 or 6, but they could also lose just as many. They have beaten exactly 0 teams with winning records; could change this weekend if SD beats HOU. Also, consider this: if CLEV wins this weekend, they'll have the same record as KC at 4-3. Tell me you wouldn't laugh at Browns homers coming on here and advocating a playoff push by their team?

They are four games better than I thought they would be at the break. Right now, I'm just enjoying living in Bronco country while my team sits atop the AFC West. But I don't expect it to last: San Diego seems to have gotten things together and Denver looked surprisingly good against Pittsburgh Sunday night. They could beat Green Bay, Denver, and Oakland at home, but I've got no illusions about their chances against Indy. San Diego could come in week 13 and smack them in the mouth, and the week following is KC's usual poor showing in Denver. That leaves the Chiefs at a shocking 7-6 with Tennessee at home and Detroit and the Jets on the road.

They could do it.
