I understand that all these women are very disappointed.. but dontcha think this whiny, ######-fest is a little embarassing? How about giving a little credit to Brazil? Even if feel in your heart-of-hearts that you're the better team, to me it just smacks of how spoiled and entitled American atheletes can be. Esp. the ex players.. it's like Tiki Barber Syndrome has effected everybody.

"I know I could've made those saves"?? Why dontcha just say, "the keeper he put in there really had no business playing ahead of me, because she sucks".. Could you disrespect a teamate who certainly is at a low point right now any more than this?

Just get your sh*t together, regroup.. fire the coach and kick ass in the near future.

I disagree. Is there some rule somewhere that says players can't call out their coaches or teammates when they aren't doing their part? Hope said what needed to be said. I guarantee she isn't the only person in that locker room who felt the same way. Fact is, as the real, starting goalie for the US side, she's really the only one who could probably get away with saying something.

The truth is, Briana Scurry had no business playing ahead of Hope Solo against Brasil. Greg Ryan was wrong. Solo won the starting job for a reason, right? Scurry was the number two for a reason, right? You have to play the players that got you there.

Ryan is also wrong to bench Solo against Norway, too. The real irony here is that it's Solo who ended up apologizing to the team, while Ryan is out front talking about how Solo "made a mistake" and how he's "made tons of mistakes in [his] life...bigger than Hope's."

Yeah, coach, and one of the biggest ones was just a few days ago.

You clearly follow women's soccer a great deal more than I. It was more a general comment on sportsmanship.. and as I said, I understand that there is a lot of anger and frustration.. but there seems to me, to be a more graceful way of behaving on the world stage.

This Solo women could even ###### up a blue streak in a slightly different way. But to flat out say, "I know I could have made those saves".. is basically saying that her teamate is a no talent hack/POS and had zero business being in in there at all.

Whether true or not.. not a nice way to be a teammate and fellow countrymen.. As Rudy from Fat Albert would say. "NC.. As in No Class". :overhead:

The coach made a great choice starting Briana Scurry. The problem is that black goalkeepers in women's soccer face greater scrutiny than their white counterparts.

Yeah, I admit to being both a soccer fan and a player. I also play some goalie. Fair cop that Solo isn't exactly being a good teammate, but she's gotta be frustrated at winning the starting job (from Scurry) only to get benched in favor of the person she beat out just because of past performance on the biggest stage in women's soccer. I'll say this: Maybe she could have found a way to say what she wanted to say without throwing Scurry under the bus. However, I can't really disagree with the overall message: She was chosen to be the number one goalie for a reason. She should have been the one in net against Brazil.

edjr: I didn't see where Ryan admitted he was wrong and apologized. I did see him make a comment about how everybody makes mistakes and such.

300+ minute scoreless streak was what I heard on the radio. Very questionable decision.

you shouldnt diss your teammate for a coach's call though. she should have been quiet in front of the cameras and blasted the bonehead coach at team meetings. imagine after a football game if/when brandon jacobs comes back and gets the majority of carries and then derrick ward steps up to the cameras and states that he would have gotten more yards on those carries than brandon jacobs. its gotta remain a team.

Im sure no one will believe this but I actually went to school with hope and was good friends with her older brother. We somewhat dated/hung out for a short period of time. She is a cool gal and I agree with what she said. In some ways this will help out womens soccer and her giving them both alot of exposure. There is no way they cant leave her on the team.

Yeah there is a rule..it's called sportsmanship(or sportswomanship) and class. Neither was displayed by that selfish, spoiled blond American punk.

We are so damn "entitled" and spoiled in this country--it's disgusting.

And then we have people defending them...I'm not sure what's worse.

Although she was 100% accurate in everything she said, I agree with you in regards to calling out her teammate.

In fact, she even made a statement the next day saying she regretted that part of it ans wanted to make it clear that she is good friends with Scurry (the other goal keeper) and respected her as a player.

She obviously got caught up in her frustrations. She should have left the critisim to her coach.

Solo couldn't play or train with the team and had to take her meals apart as the team shunned her. By Sunday evening, it was unclear if she would even fly back to the U.S. with the team she had been a part of for more than two years.

"The circumstance that happened and her going public has affected the whole group," said Kristine Lilly, a 36-year-old forward who played in a record fifth World Cup. "And having her with us would still be a distraction."

Chicks are ridiculous. Could you imagine men acting thsi way?

What a great way for Ryan to deflect attention away from the fact that his team was horrible and he should be fired as the coach.

This is disgusting and Solo is way too hot to be treated like this.

To sum up:

1) Bonehead move on the part of the coach benching a hot player. (Hot in terms of shut-out streak).

2) Bonehead move on the part of Solo. STFUP and handle your bidness within the organization.

3) Bonehead move on the part of the team and coach in 'shunning' her. Sounds like High School - and a coach should never allow it. He should be the one beginning the reconciliation process so that a very good goalie is still available to the team. In the end, it's about winning, not hurt feelings.

4) That pole vaulter chick give me wood so hard it hurts.
