That's about how much I spend on food and alcohol every month.

A filet at the Chop House ( chicago ) 50 bucks ( and thats a lot for an steak ) is about the best I have had - hard to imagine a steak being much better. I can get 3 of those and still have extra money left over compared to that.

what makes the wagyu so good ?

Wagyu is a the breed of cattle that Kobe beef comes from. Unfortunately, like Champagne, only Wagyu cattle raised in the Kobe prefecture of Japan can technically be called Kobe beef. Some people think that Wagyu is some latest and greatest thing better than Kobe, but that's just not true. Wagyu beef can be raised here in the States. In fact the japanese do that (contract) because land and grain are so much cheaper here. Wagyu - whether Kobe or not - has a much higher marbling content making for some seriously luxurious beef - if cooked correctly. Most Americans upon receiving a pound of the stuff would absolutely destroy it.

Having said all that, I'm pretty much in your camp. I can't much tell a substantive difference between a 30 buck steak and a $85-100 steak. Much of that is strictly ambience and reputation. And, this nonsense of searing a steak at 1500 degress is just ludicrous.

You won't know until you try it. If you're actually able to buy some at a market (not likely), you'd probably fock up cooking the steak. I ordered it medium rare and they told me this is the most done you should ever order wagyu. I didn't even need my steak knife, it was that tender.

Did you stay at the Wynn?

No. We went with several other couples and some of them couldn't get comp or discounted rooms at Wynn. I do like the rooms at Wynn.

Our room was pretty damn sweet.

Don't have much to compare it to since I haven't stayed on the strip since the Mirage was brand new. I did stay at The Red Rock Casino last summer and that was very nice as well.

Well you don't have any where to go but down. The rooms at the Venetian and the Bellagio are on the same level as Wynn.

yeah but what brand of ketchup did you dip your steak in?

:shocking:

We actually discussed this over dinner that night. The other couple told us not to ask for ketchup or else they would throw us out of the restaurant. They did bring three different types of dipping sauces. Two of em tasted like ass. :pointstosky:

Didn't try any on my steak as that would RUIN the taste of it.

So when someone says "It's on me" you are the type to say "Cool, let's find the most expensive item on the menu".

I bet the focker paying the bill ordered a shot of it after you asked for the buck seventy five two-bite steak.

He was playing at a $300 min blackjack table, banging it for $1000 bets when the cards were hot. I am certain that $175 for a steak didn't faze him a bit. Plus, he talked me into ordering it after I joked with him about the price.
