Hurricane Ditka 0 Posted April 9, 2008 My in laws are suppose to fly Seattle to Chicago today. Every American flight is cancelled. They can't get them a flight until,,, um next week. So they say. I read that they will put them on competitors flights or pay for meal and lodging.
He Like Me 0 Posted April 9, 2008 American Airlines if FOCKED! Never really thought of it? I guess in the jet engines? That would kind of hurt though!

wiffleball 4,797 Posted April 9, 2008 AA cancelled 850 flights to check wiring. Prolly told to do so by the FAA. There's a certain directive, can't think of the name. It’s interesting; I have a friend who has a really good job with Continental. Basically, he gets real-time data directly from the planes – sometimes as they’re in the air. If the mechanics can’t fix it or figure it out, he oftentimes can fix the plane – or at least diagnose the problem and suggest corrective action – from his laptop at home or wherever he’s at. Anyway, I was asking him why Continental hadn’t been going through the same things as the other major carriers. He said it may end up that Cont gets dragged in due to Government/FAA frenzy, but the planes that are getting pulled (MD-80’s) are really old planes. Continental’s strategy has been to constantly replace it’s aging fleet. They have the youngest fleet of any major carrier. So, they don’t have the problems that these other guys do. Cruzer 1,996 Posted April 9, 2008 they should put them in the simulator and let them at least pretend like their going home.

Voice_Of_Reason 0 Posted April 9, 2008 I was on Southwest this week. The lady kept pushing her light button the whole flight but it never came on. Once we touched down, it just popped on. I just looked at her and said, well, we made it. This was after they grounded 40 planes.
ERZER 0 Posted April 9, 2008 I'm glad I don't travel that much anymore. They were about the only ones with a direct flight to D.C. If they could have said something sooner, the ATA airlines could have held on and helped them out. But theywent bankrupt last week and can't use their planes. Good luck to you frequent travelers. Hurricane Ditka 0 Posted April 10, 2008 We are 2.5 hours from the airport so we aren't taking them there until they have a flight so they are not hung up needing vouchers. And they will not fly with a connection. We are being told unless at the airport they won't put them on another airline. So for now they are extending their vacation. Drinking my booze, spoiling my kids, and extending the length of time since I last blasted the wife. I am getting dare I say,,,, cranky.

MD-80s are sh!t too. That Alaska Airlines flight that crashed outside of Los Angeles a few years back was an MD-80 plane. The problem was purely mechanical. Of course, it didn't help that Alaska Airlines apparently fudged it's maintenance logs, but still.
BMoney 0 Posted April 10, 2008 little old planes scare me... 1 time from milw to chicago..we were on a Midwest Buddy Holly puddle jumper express and all set to take off...no worries until a pilot asked the real fat guy in the back to switch to the other side to help with the weight..once we get up, no worries, she said...oh sure..NO worries.. Continental doesn't fly MD-80's I don't think. But the age of the plane is not the most relevant factor. Southwest flies only 737's and they had maintenance issues as well. Northwest flies DC-9's which average 20+ years old and there really hadn't been a huge maintenance issue with these planes. They are trying to replace them but more for the cost savings newer jets give them on fuel rather than due to maintenance. Remember the flight over Hawaii that the roof ripped off of at 30,000 feet? That was a 737.

Us Texans luv SWA, not so much aa. 737 -100 or -200 series. SWA flies -300, -500, and -700s. The problem was fixed in the newer models. I read it, they could be lyin. peenie 2,005 Posted May 28, 2008 people pack far too many things they don't need when they go on short trips. my sister came to visit me for 4 days. she brought 2 pieces of luggage. one was so big and heavy i refused to pick it up. one day she wore a little dress that would fit in a sandwich bag, she wore the outfit she had on the plane, she borrowed my daughter's clothes the next day and probably wore something of mine the last day. she could've brought her purse alone! i'm glad they're making people cut down even more on luggage. you really don't need all that crap anyway. That was a 737. Southwest hadn't had issues as much as falsifying records. You couldn't pay me enough ot fly NorthWorst. 20+ ha! Try 35 and 40. Several of there 9's are retreads from Aero Mexico and they bought a dozen from Air Sudan a while ago. I'm sure they are refurbished, but whatever. You can see the frame date on the inside of the door on the way in. Northwest has to be the worst airline on the planet. SWA flies -300, -500, and -700s And they are much nicer planes. After flying little dink planes with United for years, I switched to the kindergarten round up and have never been happier flying. I doesn't hurt that I'm usually one of the first on the plane… time from milw to chicago..we were on a Midwest Buddy Holly puddle jumper express and all set to take off...no worries until a pilot asked the real fat guy in the back to switch to the other side to help with the weight..once we get up, no worries, she said...oh sure..NO worries.. Happens all the time. They took a poor guy off a plane on my way into NH last month because he was huge. The pilot came on a looked at him and said, "sorry, this plane cannot get you there without endangering all our lives." I felt bad for the guy but its not my fault he weighed 400+. Keep and eye on dem in-laws. Make sure they don't go house hunting….
