I think it actually hurts their cause because they are trying to shove it down our throats.

 

If that was my nephew/cousin, i would have sat him down and had a talk with him. "what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business but don't try and shove it down our throats." In his case, his actions hurt his cause because instead of you saying that your nephew is a nice kid who is also gay, he left a bad impression which may have turned you off forever about all gays.

 

I think you just grew up in a small whitebread community and have not been exposed to people of different religions, sexual orientation and races. I grew up in a very white suburb but the more you are exposed to different types of people, the more you realize that these people are more similar to you than you thought.

When someone I know starts to rail on all blacks do this or that(not gay related), I find myself defending them and saying well a lot may do that, but not all.
