remote controller 143 Posted June 17, 2008 Color me suprised! I had a feeling you'd grab Brown, but didn't see the 2nd Rb coming, and I preferred Jacobs over Brown. There are 3 backs I still like, and none of them will be present in round 5, so my hands are tied, or is that a noose? Here is hoping the Falcons can find a passing game to aid Turner. I would have likely grabbed Jacob's and hoped he could stay on the field better this season, but since I have Burress, I am probably lucky that Fumble took him. I will divulge the three guys on my list that I thought you were gonna take in a few more picks.
RLLD 4,230 Posted June 17, 2008 More picks that further enforce my earlier notion that it would have provided better value to go WR in round 2 instead of taking MJD... What I am observing is that the disparity between tiers in the RB position are far less than those found at WR....in this light it makes sense to grab a WR early, and pluck up the falling RB's later.... SO...through four rounds it makes more sense to lean toward.... RB WR WR RB

I will divulge the three guys on my list that I thought you were gonna take in a few more picks. I've always gotten a chuckle out of the notion that I am a QB guy because generally in my primary league, I'm one of the last guys to grab a QB. They go earlier in that draft. Truth be told, I just look for value first and foremost and stay true to that. I don't look to "round out" my team the way some people do. At least not until later rounds. In the end, I just saw more value at RB at the turn than at any other position. So, that's the direction I went......
Fumbleweed 547 Posted June 17, 2008 Leave it to the Soloist to do things his own way. Stewart in the third and Winslow early fourth were not conventional picks...but as I said, since when is the Soloist conventional.
RLLD 4,230 Posted June 17, 2008 Ok, I think we can assign the first "WTF" award of the mock to Soloist on that Winslow pick..... I am rather pleased to have access to Boldin at 4.04 as I have not yet seen him available past round 3, but I place his value as appropriate at this stage of a draft, to me he is justified in the mid-fourth

We do need a tight end. Why not take him while he's available? I've never chosen a TE this early before but I thought I'd try something new. LOL!
Dan 66 Posted June 17, 2008 Winslow in the fourth is not bad value. TE required league . . . hey, go for it. And Winslow's a good one to have.

It wasn't a Qb in particular taht I had pegged for you. A Qb was one of the 3 though. I knew you were high on Brown, I just felt you would value three guys higher. FantasyKing 4 Posted June 17, 2008 I have no problem with the Winslow pick, obviously he was the #1 TE on his list and it would be very questionable whether he would fall down to his 5th round pick so he went and got his guy.
paulinstl 296 Posted June 17, 2008 Once I missed out on Holt, Chad and Steve Smith in the third, I targeted one of the top three TEs for my pick in the fourth. Started to worry when Soloist took Winslow, but got a reprieve when Fk took Welker. Welker was a good pick at that point, but I was glad to get Gates. Injury, what injury? I had Whitten and Gates going before Winslow if only because I feel more secure with the QB situations in SD and Dal.....for all I know Quinn emerges as the starter and Winslow disappears.... The Gates and Whitten picks are fine IMHO, but Winslow before them and in round 4 just does not jive with my evaluation of what should go down here... remote controller 143 Posted June 17, 2008 I am shocked that Gates fell this far. I am shocked that Witten and Winslow went first. Paul has got to be cheesin'! I really thought that JScott would have to be in a dilema over taking Gates or not. I thought Fumble would grab Gates at the corner. I almost took Gates over Turner!! Dan 66 Posted June 17, 2008 I was content. And watching the rest of the WRs that I would have considered fall right in front of me made the decision simple.

I actually took Gates at 3.07 in a draft last year, huge mistake on my part....he never gave me #'s worth a 3rd round pick....I am suspicious of him a little as I think his skills are on the decline, but he is still worth more than Whitten or Gates. remote controller 143 Posted June 17, 2008 4.01- Fumbleweed- RB Brandon Jacobs, NYG 4.02- Remote Controller- RB Michael Turner, Atl. 4.03- The Soloist- TE Kellen Winslow, Jr., Cle. 4.04- Ray Lewis' Limo Driver- Boldin 4.05- JScott- Roy Williams 4.06- Fantasy King- Welker 4.07- Dan- Witten 4.08- Paulinstl.- Gates 4.09- Gratefulted- Graham 4.10- Clash of the Titans- McFadden 4.11- Vikings4Ever- T Jones 4.12- ICEMAN- Rudi Johnson ---------------------------------------------------- Another solid round. I had Thomas Jones, and Graham in consideration with Turner for my 4.02 pick. I simply went with combined ADP on the selection just in case one of them slid off the map back to me in round 5.(wasn't happening) I almost took Boldin, but had Moss and Burress already. That would have stacked my wideouts and sunk my backs. I almost grabbed both Brees or Gates, to get a stud at a position, but took the boring Turner pick. I loved the value of Boldin, and was shocked that gates was the 3rd TE taken, so Paul made out like a bandit for a 2nd round in a row!!! I was hoping Rudi might slide to the bottom of the 5th, but not in this draft! Great job all!

Fumbleweed 547 Posted June 17, 2008 Wow....I go to a meeting for a couple of hours and I come back to some great pick-ups. Brees in the fifth is insane. I almost took him at 4.01. What a bargain for V4E there. Also thought the Graham and McFadden picks late in the fourth were very good value. Didn't care for the Rudi pick...I have a hard time spending a fourth rounder on a guy that averaged 2.9 yards a carry last year.
Vikings4ever 550 Posted June 17, 2008 That worked out real well for you! Would have worked out either way. Holmes for ted is a great value. So it would have either been Steve Smith/Drew Brees or Tony Romo/Santonio Holmes

JScott 20 Posted June 17, 2008 Little surprised by Chambers there. Thought there was better value on the board.
Dan 66 Posted June 17, 2008 Little surprised by Chambers there. Thought there was better value on the board. There's two, maybe three, that were considerable. But I like Chambers' upside this year. And there are other reasons, too, but I'll be coy for now. Regarding better value . . . hmmm, maybe. Time will tell. I considered Julius Jones, but is very much a risk, and now behind a weaker line. I'm not sold. Lendale doesn't tickle my fancy at all, so . . . I'll tell more if my next pick goes as planned.
JScott 20 Posted June 17, 2008 Very happy to get White here. I was going to take him with my last pick (4th round), then looked at the teams before this pick (5th round) and figured White (or 1 or 2 other RBs I liked) has a better chance to fall than Roy Williams. And it worked out. Regardless of who else TEN brought in White had a great showing in 07, and revealed he was playing with torn cartilage in his knee. So I expect a healthy Lendale to put up slightly better numbers than last season. And considering White put up very comparable numbers to someone like Ryan Grant last season I'd say getting him in the 5th is great value compared to Grant in the 2nd. I desparately wanted White to fall to me here in the 5th round. I have him rated above Turner, Brown, Jacobs, Jones, McFadden, Graham, Bush, and Parker, but felt he might be the one who would slide to me in 5. Close but know cigar. Here is a 300 carry back that will improve on last season. It was a great pick. It almsot worked, but I now wish I would have grabbed his 300+carries early in round 4. We'll have to see what type of starting role JJ is able to carve out.
