Cowboys Acquire WR Roy Williams

Recommended Posts

I think it helps Dallas in the long term because Roy is younger and can replace TO. Short term it could be an issue. They basically bid against themselves and still gave up a lot.

Why not wait and just sign him after the season? You know he wanted to play in Dallas and Jerry Jones has the deep pockets to make sure they would have gotten him.

It still does nothing to help some of the holes they have right now. Many of which have already been detailed above.

WOW! Just WOW!

Dallas fans can say all they want about their remaining picks, but to give up a 1st and a 3rd for Roy is way over paying.

How long till Roy has a hammy and sidelines him for a couple of weeks? Has he ever started 16 games in a season?

As much as I hate to say it....Good job Lions. :dunno:

The only person i see imploding on this list is Owens. Witten and Barber will never be a distraction, or do anything that'll hurt the team. Williams wont complain about looks this year i don't think. For this year, he'll just be happy to be winning, being out of detroit, and being back home. Maybe next year, if he's not getting looks he'll complain, but i don't see him doing anything this year.

:dunno: Did you just put williams and crayton in the same category? They are MILES apart.

I can honestly say that outside of some highlight reel grabs in his first few seasons, he's been a disappointment.

He does drop balls, lacks speed and doesn't get seperation with good route running. I'm sorry, but I don't think that's MILES apart from Crayton especially at the price payed for the upgrade.

I'll give you this. Obviously, playing on the Lions is enough to dampen anyone's abilities and going to his home state may give him the focus to be a #1 type of receiver but I'm not sure he does have the skills to be the man.

Replacement GM has officially done more good in 2 weeks than Millen did in 8 years.

Being the bender instead of the bendee is a strange feeling.

I disagree to an extent. Also as a Lions fan I found myself being very angry at Roy sometimes, mainly because of the drops. He has the talent to be a top 15 WR if not top 10. He is MILES ahead of Crayton. That said Dallas gave up too much for him and it was a good move by the Lions. I still think that Cowboy fans will be happy that they made the move.

I don't understand what all the bitching over draft picks is about. The NFL Draft is a highly overrated crapshoot anyway, you could get Alex Smith at #1 or Marion Barber at #109. It's really not that serious people.

I agree the Boys got raped on that deal.

And if the Boys keep losing, the deal just gets better for the Lions with that extra first rounder. Here's to two top ten picks next year....

I can relate to the anger involved, and when they added Calvin last year, I figured for sure that Roy would finally show us all that he's a legit #1 with so much attention being payed to the other side of the field. However, the more I watched, the more I started to realize that he just doesn't seem to have that capability. I'm not really trying to diss Roy, I just think his value has been fluffed a bit to the point of unreasonable expectations.

I wish him well though, because he was good in the community, but he certainly started to show an unprofessional side to him this year that can't be overlooked either.

wow, some observations:

1---how evident is it millen no longer runs the lions? i was laughing because i thought if millen made that deal, he would have sent his own 1 along with roy to dallas! instead, a very heavy package of picks for a player who will command a lot of your $$ next yr. it makes very good sense for this club. they can use those $$$ on picks next yr in a positive direction for this team. they already have a franchise wr---a second one is a luxury, but only after the basics are covered. this team has none of the 4 major positions on the field: left tackle, qb, pass rush defensive end, or cover corner.

2--looks like dallas is going on an "offense, not defense, will win this yr" theme---or adjusted, a "lots of offense with a little defense" will win this yr theme. they seem to feel by watching afc teams such as pittsburgh, indy, denver, and san diego, and fellow nfc teams like new orleans and green bay that dominant defense is not as much the theme as is superior offense this yr. even the giants have thrived with huge offense, and were seemingly exposed by a unit laden with skill positions that were hitting on all cylinders. most top defenses have beenlit this yr [ie balt, pitt, jax, etc] the lone exception being the tennessee defense

It is official now! Dallas will win the Superbowl this year. How can you stop Witten, Williams, T.O. Miles Austin, Crayton, MBIII, Felix, Romo, and Bennett. This is the best offense in NFL history in the making here. Dallas is going to do it this year. We also got a 4th round pick due to Pacman's fock up at the club. All in all, Dallas had 10 picks next year and after the Pacman suspension and the Roy Williams trade we now have Williams and 9 picks next year. One less pick and a stud WR to go with T.O.

Jerry Jones is the best GM in NFL history!

COWBOYS EXTEND “NEW” ROY WILLIAMS THROUGH 2013

Posted by Mike Florio on October 14, 2008, 7:26 p.m. EDT

In conjunction with the deal that brought receiver Roy Williams from Detroit to his home state of Texas, the Cowboys and Williams have worked out a five-year deal that will keep the new Williams in silver and blue through 2013.

Adam Schefter of NFLN reports that the basic paramaters are in place — length of deal and average value per year. Work still must be done on how the money will be paid out, including the amount of it that will be guaranteed.

For now, neither side is talking about the per-year value, and for good reason. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knows that Terrell Owens will be paying particular attention to the details.

In the locker room, it’s all about who’s got the biggest, um, wallet. And apart from inspecting the thing that typically is kept below the belt (again, wallet), the best way for guys to establish a pecking order is based on how much they get paid.

And if Williams is getting a penny more than Owens, we recommend the extra large bucket of popcorn.

Let's just say a vastly overrated d. Not nearly as good as many thought and it will bit them in the long run.

Right now i think the D is somewhere between below average and average. That was with Newman out, and pacman finally playing again after so long. Williams and watkins got hurt as well. The playcalling has also been very vanilla.

If they can bump it up to somewhere in the above average average they'll be fine. You don't have to have a great offense and a great defense. This offense should come together to be one of the best around week 12 or so. I don't think i'm going out on a limp when i say the cowboys will the best offense. At worst they'll be a top 3 offense. With an offense that good, you can get by with an average defense. However, i do think this D has the talent to be a good defense.

Right now, they're not forcing turnovers. Ware is the only guy who's playing great. If they let Ellis blitz a bit more, bring other blitzers, and start performing to their ability they'll be alright.

It is official now! Detroit will win the World Series this year. How can you stop Cabrera, Ordonez, Guillen, Granderson, Pudge, Renteria, Polanco and Sheffield? This is the best offense in MLB history in the making here. One less pitching prospect and a stud bat to go with Ordonez.

David Dombrowski is the best GM in MLB history!

The best team in NFL history has just been built. Jerry Jones has traded his way to cowboys dominance for the next 4-5 years. When we open our new stadium we are going to have a 6th title and then go on to win 2 more in the first two years the new stadium is open. The three titles in a row is now possible since we got Roy Williams. Who can stop T.O., Witten and Williams? No one! Prepare to die NFL! You think Belichick made you look bad last year. Wait until Brad Johnson gets on the field with T.O., Witten and Roy. Bang Bang. We win the title this year. :headbanger:

Pimp, the only way Dallas makes it to the Superbowl this year is if they buy tickets.

You're talking SB and should be worried about just making the playoffs, let alone actually winning a playoff game. You don't have Romo for four-six weeks and you seriously think B-Rad Johnson to lead this team to the playoffs?! This team is a rudderless ship, and they'll be missing those prime picks next year.

please let the draft fall like this!

early first rounder (likely top 3) = stud OL or DL (Oher, Andre Smith, Laurinaitis, Curry)

first rounder from dallas = another OL or DL (Maualuga, Cushing, Monroe, Meridith)

2nd rounder = best CB on the board (Alphonso Smith, Butler, Mickens)

3rd rounder = best QB on the board (Chase Daniel, Bomar, Tebow)

3rd rounder from dallas = more help on the line!

Dude, if you think Tim Tebow will be availiable in the third round, you are smoking crack. He may not even be availiable at the third pick in the first round.

You expect him to act the same after the trade? Well, i don't. I think there'll be a honeymoon period where he wont complain. I listed the reasons why i don't think he'll complain. I can't think of any player who complained about a situation, got traded, then kept complaining.

Well TO went from SF to Balt to Philly and b$tched the whole time.

Randy Moss went from Minn. to Oakland and we know how that turned out.

There are always diamonds in the rough, but you have to admit the first three rounds are where you will find the majority of your top tier talent--especially defensive players and offensive linemen. Although it can be a crapshoot at times, I'd rather have 5 rolls of the dice in the first 3 rounds than 3. If anyone but Millen is making those picks, there is potentially some immediate help where the Lion's need it most. 5 picks in the first 3 rounds can literally have the potential to create a solid core defensive unit or offensive line for years to come. With Roy Williams salary off the books, there's cash to sign them as well.

In my original post, i said for this season. In that same post i said, maybe next season he might start complaining.

Also, Williams has never been as bad as TO or Moss so those are unfair comparisons to begin with. Maybe somebody like Corey Dillon would be more appropriate. But he moved on at a later age so even that isn't that good.

Rock em time Dallas. Roy the boy Williams and T.O. will be one of the best duos since Batman and Robin- Will Smith and Martin Lawrence- These Bad Boys will steal the spotlight from any foe. Gotta keep up with the all mighty NFC east. The NY Giants have bigger problems now than they did last Monday night. It's go time
