Which Player Did You Totally Wiff On This Year?

Recommended Posts

Way back in the summer as you were all doing your research, there was this one player that you thought for sure was going to break out and be the guy this year. After a few games, it became painfully clear that you blew the pick. The player never came close to living up to the level you thought. Who was that guy for you?

For me, it was Santonio Holmes. In my big money keeper league, I kept Holmes for a 6th and thought it was a major steal. In fact, it influenced some of my early picks. I thought he was going to step up and become a top 10 WR this year. WRONG!! I ended up trading Holmes and Hasselbeck for Tyler Thigpen.

Faylon Edwards - 2nd round

I traded him for Antonio Gates after week 6 and I couldn't believe I got Gates for him.

Gates has gone his longest streak since 2003 without a TD

FAIL!

2nd round pick Ryan Grant. I was fooled by Greenbay declaring he'd be more involved in the passing game. He has had some good weeks (about 5 or under) but far too many single digit weeks to have been drafted prior to say round 4 maybe 5.

5th round pick Kellen Winslow. He too had some pretty good weeks but this offensive unit sucks balls and I will steer clear of ANY Brown/Bengal player next draft unless they fire the head coaches.

6th round pick Derek Anderson. See Winslow.

Same here. I've never been one to grab a TE early, but I tried it this year with Winslow. Never again.

I have to agree with FlaHawker here....I took Santonio as my #3 WR in my league thinking he was a steal there....Passed on quite a few bigger names as I thought he was going to be huge this year. I actually took Bowe as my #2 thinking Santonio would outplay him and I would be OK with Bowe as my #3....Thank god or whoever that I got Mason pretty late as he has stepped in and filled that position for me OK.

I would also have to say that I also kept McGahee as my only keeper but was lucky enough to get Jones-Drew and the Burner as my other 2 RB's.....Also got McClain off the wire too. What a piece of crap this guy is, and I'm a Canes fan too....What a disgrace.

First 5 were Addai, Braylon, Jacobs, Megatron and Winslow.

3 failures.

Matt Forte - traded after week 1 for Torry Holt. Besides the aforementioned starters, my bench had CJ3, J Stewart and Ray Rice. I figured with their horrible O-line and suspect QB, he had the least chance of success of my four rookies. Massive fail on my part.

Still made the semis in the playoffs, but it wouldn't have taken much to have had a much better team that would still be playing this week.

In my big-money league I drafted Randy Moss in the 1st, McGahee in the 2nd. Despite these embarrassments, I'm still playing for the championship this weekend, but I learned my lesson...no more WR's in the 1st round, ever. And McGahee is a turd.

I drafted Thomas Jones in the 3rd, and I was laughed at for making a "big reach". Who's laughing now? <_<

Chris Perry. Although I picked him up out of free agency, I had big hopes for him. I still know for a fact he ran with a ton of determination and looked good early on. He's better than Cedric Benson and the Bengals made another stupid decision. Perry would have come around. Who knows what happens with his career now. I do understand the fumbling problem and low yards per carry. Perry needs to fix his fumbling issues and then if he gets enough opportunities at some point in the future with the Bengals or even somewhere else I think he could be good.

After showing some signs last year, I though Ted Ginn, Jr. would be a nice play this year. Thankfully, someone else beat me to him in the draft and I wound up with VJax instead.

Reggie Wayne in the 2nd round. He was good for me in the beginning of the year and then cost me several games when I could have started the likes of Donald Driver or Matt Jones ahead of him.

Addai (sorry to those I helped decide on taking him at 3. What the fock was I thinking? I personally apologize.)

SJax

Braylon

Plax

Julius Jones (took him one pick ahead of Thomas Jones)

Winslow

we ALL missed on Matt Ryan. Rookie QB, who knew?

Ryan Grant (thought he would be solid)

McGahee

Larry Johnson (took these two at the 2/3 turn and thought I was LOADED at RB)

Thought Edge had one good year left.

obviously these are in different leagues. I hit on quite a few, but damn I didn't see any of these guys playing the way they did this year.

Not sure Id call perry late a wiff. I did the same. just looking for a possible steal.

Did the same thing with Cassell and that worked out pretty well.

as far as my wiffs,...... LT with the first overall (although looking back, what the hell was I suppose to do,.... take Mario Williams?) and Edwards at the 2nd/3rd round turn.

Colston in one league, 2nd round

Housh in another, 2nd round

Both were susposed to be my stud WR's this year.

Also took Addai 4th overall, when Westbrook was available, I assumed I would get Addai, as Westbrook was gone, when it was my turn, wasn't paying attention and hit addai on the draft, instead of Westbrook.

In one league, it was a position that I wiffed on...QB. It was my 4th of 4 drafts and I had a solid squad early (via extra draft picks), so I deviated from my strategy of waiting for a QB and grabbing Rodgers (who I absolutely loved in drafts this year) and Warner. I went with rankings and drafted Palmer and Hasselbeck...D'oh! Still made the playoffs and could have made the championship game had I started P Thomas over Portis, but not going with my gut there cost me bigtime throughout the year!

Edgerrin James. I thought for sure that he had that starting job solid for one more year.

Marques Colston - injury, and just not dynamic since.

Joey Galloway - injury then suckiness.

Willie Parker - injury, and then never really was the same again.

That'll hurt a season.

Oh, and Matt Schaub, but he's been fine when he's healthy.

Yeah, I guess I'll amend my previous statement and admit that Reggie was (and continues to be) a whiff. He's the 16th ranked WR in my league this year, so he's not "bad" per se, but seeing how I took the SOB early 2nd round, well, he's pretty much focked me all year long.

oh, and every seachicken except carlson... :overhead:

Lawrence Maroney in the 3rd round.

I thought his playoff charge last year would result in him getting more involved this year. Even before the injuries this year he was a POS. So many awesome players on the table when I grabbed him.

I never really liked LJ, but the preseason reports had him looking like 'the old LJ'. Add to that Chan Gay-lee was going to force feed him the ball and I began to warm to the idea of LJ putting up RB1 as a mid second rounder.

Fock LJ! I hate this guy and will revert back to my earlier outlook that he's nothing but a plodder who benefited running behind an all world O-line.

Also, Santonio. All signs had him for a breakout year.

LT - protected him instead of Brees

Wayne - 2nd round

Chad Johnson - 4th round

Anderson - 8th round

These guys have kept me in it

MBIII - 1st round

Boldin - 3rd round

T Jones - 5th round

Warner - 11th round

Brady in the 1st, in a heavy QB friendly league. 10yards passing per point. :pointstosky:

But I got Warner in the last round.

I thought MJD as I took him early and he rode my bench all year. He helped me win my second round playoff game last week and I may start him in the championship game. So I guess he was just a regular season wiff.

GFIAFP's 2008 Rookie BUST PICK! NOT WORTH DRAFTING!

Chris Johnson

FAIL!

Damn this one was easy... This kid was my pick of the year once I saw him practice a little and hear they were going to use him like the Saints used Bush....

Anyway my Whiff was Marshawn Lynch.... really thought they would turn him into a "do it all" top 5 RB in the league, but he's had only a so so year with F, Jackson stealing a lot of touches that I didn't see coming.... :music_guitarred:
